They changed the ending to the montage as a result of his death. The original ending had Ted joining other priests on a ledge preparing to end their lives. They decided to go with a happier ending. The world was robbed of much more laughter when Dermot died, he went long before his time. As they say “ only the good die young”. R.I.P Dermot Morgan & thanks for the laughs.

To let you know about Frank Kelly. He was part of an Irish political satire program on Irish TV in the 1970s called Halls Pictorial Weekly. Also, he was a character on a kids' program called Wonderly Wagon. Dermot Morgan was a fan of his and insisted he'd audition for Father Jack. After Father Ted, Kelly did a lot of stage work and was a cast member on a British soap called Emmerdale. Sadly, he developed Dementia and could no longer be able to act. He died in 2016.

@24magiccarrot Жыл бұрын
I think the end bit would have happened anyway as the writers only intended on doing 3 seasons anyway, it was just a coincidence that Dermot Morgan passed away, but Ardal O'Hanlon and Dermot Morgan were both looking to do other things so it would have been harder to get the cast together all at once.

Daniel, you asked if Frank Kelly (Fr Jack) did other stuff. In the run-up to Christmas, you need to listen to 'Christmas Countdown' that he did. It's based on 'The Twelve Days Of Christmas' and it's hilarious. Side note: the red 'splat' to the left of the video feed looks like a dong! 🤣 💚🐇🐴💚

Father Ted didn't stop being made because of the passing of Dermot Morgan, the writers intended for their to only be 3 seasons anyway. It just so happened that Dermot Morgan passed away after the recording of the last episode, as very likely they would have continued to at least make Christmas Specials like Only Fools and Horses did.

Yeh - this show should never be re-made. Its one of the few shows ever made that doesn't have a single bad episode. I'd recommend checking out 'Small, Far Away: The Story of Father Ted' (a documentary about how the show was made) And then two other sitcoms that were also partially written by one of the Father Ted writers (Graham Linehan). Those being' 'Black Books' (co-written with Dylan Moran and starring Moran alongside Bill Bailey) & 'The I.T. Crowd' (which there was an attempted and terrible American remake that never aired, thought the pilot was leaked). Black Books is closely connected to another sitcom called 'Spaced' that was where Simon Pegg met director Edward Wright (and where the idea for Shaun of the Dead was born). I don't know but I wonder if the close connections between 'Black Books' and 'Spaced' is how Dylan Moran ended up in Shaun of the Dead. It's worth noting that Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Peter Serafinowicz all appear in guest roles in 'Black Books'.

@SteffBrockley Жыл бұрын
It didn’t stop because of the death of Dermott Morgan. It was always going to be the last episode. Ted was supposed die at the end. After Dougal said “And ever and ever and ever…” it was going to cut to Ted and the suicidal priest both jumping off a building. That was the point of the suicidal priest, to set up Ted’s suicide. But after the death of Morgan you can see why they changed it.
