Cimoooooooo I haven't played yu-gi-oh since Yata - gara su was legal, but I still play magic and you're definitely correct about cards over life points. The simple way of it is that life points only keep you in the game but cards allow you to influence the game. The more cards you have the more options you have to influence the game in your favor. Life points won't make you more likely to win, they just keep you from losing That being said magic uses 20 life and once you reach about 10 is when you need to worry about protecting your health.

I find it interesting how much Mystic Mine changed the dynamic of this card. The downside of "it gives your opponent a free draw which they'll just use to pummel you anyway" is drastically reduced when mystic mine has rendered 95% of their deck invalid, AND clears anything within the 5% that can deal with Mystic Mine.

even then, you're still cycling thru their deck for them, so unless u banish a key card in their hand (or they only have the 1 card), they've likely got an equal hand as before and are now free to search with their actual search cards since dark law's effect triggered already. It'd be better to just play a standard negate card to 1 for 1 and wait for your opponent to search (which every deck does) to get a chance at banishing the specific card they added off the search and to leave your opponent in the situation of their cards having less value. DANK LAW OP lol

You at least admit it's for memes. Like it's not like it's terrible with that combo; you'll get to negate a card and your opponent doesn't gain a card, but you need this combo on field or it doesn't matter. Any person who's like "I'm so glad to give my opponent cards and draw cuz "insert card here" works so well when that happens needs to realize most players want to draw and add cards to their hand anyways. Just let them if you have strategies involved around them doing that. You don't have to give them cards with your cards lol.

Dark Bribe is still a 3of staple in Barrier Stun. And probably in some other weird stun win con decks, Wiretap is only for traps which are a dead breed, it's pretty much only there for Evenly Match. Magic Jammer conflicts with Demise and makes you minus which you probably can't afford if you're playing these kind of decks Dark Bribe has insane range and the +1 to your opponent is not that big of a deal if your stun win con is that great.

From a Magic player's perspective, yes, you are absolutely correct. There are cards that exile your own cards to have an effect that are relevant, but cards that give your opponent cards are never used unless there is some way of making sure they cannot draw the cards due to an additional effect, and even that's gimmicky and niche. My favorite -1 is probably Seven Tools of the Bandit, in YGO btw. c:

What about a deck-out deck that wants to force extra cards to go through your opponent's hand? I actually run dark bribe and recall and multiple other "force my opponent to draw" cards with appropriate so that I can keep my card advantage as well. It's not a great deck since I don't have a reliable way to get and protect appropriate and I'm running 60 cards so that appropriate won't make me deck out myself, but if it gets rolling, it's pretty fun to play.

My friend got his invite with dark bribe. Basically he played Barrier Statues during metalfoe format with the theory that he could use bribe to stop the cards tht could out his board and ur opponent will draw a card which he cant play because of ur statue. Obviously this is a very obscure use for a card and it is definitely an outlier, just thought id bring it up
@yellowspike33442 жыл бұрын
Dark bribe is good in stun decks, such as mystic mine, eldlich, etc. Most people only side about 3 lighting storm or twin twister. They try to pop ur stun card like skill drain or mystic mine you can dark bribe because the chances of them drawing another card to pop your spell/trap is low. Most people would instead run anti spell fragrance but the only issue I have with that a lot of people run twin twisters and they can just chain and pop ur ASF and another card, compared to dark bribe its a spell speed 3. I like to run 3 solemn judgements plus couple of dark bribe in the side to really draw into them because I play eldlich gotta keep protect my summon limit or TCOBO.

I hate when I play against super casual players, and then they say that they came close since I'm down to around say 5500 LP at the end of the game. They just can't get that card advantage matters a lot more, and that I'm going to pay a lot of LP if it means them not being able to extend their plays and so on forth. If I play a lot of LP, but have an unbreakable board, it's fine. It's not like they are coming close or anything. It's especially annoying when I'm playing Masked Heroes and I activate "A Hero Lives" turn 1. Then they just say I suck for losing half my LP turn 1. *FACEPALM*
@haogwasakura7 жыл бұрын
As the video mentioned, LP in Yugioh doesn't really matter, this game is mostly about combos, unbreakable boards, not letting your opponent play (Which actually ends up sucking) and card advantage. If you have card advantage you can mostly always come up with a solution... I have 2 friends that are just like "haha, you were like, 100 lp to lose!" and sadly at Yugioh, that doesn't even matter :/... And yeah, it' sannoying, i agree
orochimarujes Card advantage is a technical term that only applies to cards in your hand and on your field, regardless of the deck you're running. "Having more cards" is a phrase that's open to interpretation and could refer to any number of things, such as the amount of cards in your deck or graveyard. You can try to object all you want, but the fact that some people genuinely still believe Pot of Desires is a -9 to this day because it removes cards from your deck is proof that we need exact terms like "card advantage" in Yugioh.
@danduo68147 жыл бұрын
The other cards mentioned as subs for dark bribe are more situational, whereas dark bribe can negate both spells and traps. There are several good counter points mentioned in a video by gagexscapegoat along the lines of; if you have an established field with some sort of flood gate like a barrier statue with moon mirror shield, there are very few outs to this combo. If you negate the card your opponent plays with dark bribe, the chances of them drawing a second out from the draw 1 clause is even smaller than it was for them opening with the out. If you knew your opponent was playing only spells you would undoubtedly prefer magic jammer or cursed seal of the forbidden spell, but in a diverse format with paleos running around and utility wire in every deck, dark bribe can be more useful.

I defeated a guy once with Dark Bribe. It happened just this Tuesday too. My opponent had a monster which cannot be destroyed by battle, but will be destroyed if it is targeted (forgot the name) and burden of the Might. I had a Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, Dark Bribe face-down, and some other face down spell/trap on the field. I used Master with Eyes of Blue to send Neo Blue-Eyes to the graveyard to summon Blue-Eyes Ultimate (I only have the two blue eyes fusion monsters). He summoned Vampire Vamp to try to take my Blue_Eye Ultimate, but I used Neo Blue-Eyes to negate and destroy Vampire Vamp. I drew Master again and somehow sent him to the graveyard, summoned Dragon Spirit of White to banish Burden of the Mighty. He drew and summoned Patrician of Darkness, letting him choose the attack targets of my attacks. I drew Sage with Eyes of Blue and used it to sychro summon Azure-Eyes. Twice. (Three sages) We reached a stalemate in which he could not overpower or get rid my monsters, and I could only attack the monster that cannot be destroyed by battle. On his second last draw, he somehow destroyed my Ultimate Dragon and brought it to his side of the field using a vampire effect (don't remember which one), and destroyed my Dragon Spirit of White. I still had like 3000 life points life and he had 1250 or 1350. I drew Honest next. (If I had drawn Honest the turn before, I would have won two turns earlier) On the turn of his last draw, he activated a spell card and I activated Dark Bribe, making him deck out and wining the duel. (note, I summoned Neo Blue-Eyes with Dragon's Mirror and 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons, and when he made me send trap cards from my deck to the graveyard I sent Premature Return and Compulsory Evacuation Device to the graveyard. So I could not summon Blue-Eyes Alternative, nor use Burst Stream of Destruction to get rid of that monster) tl;dr: My opponent had no cards in the deck and activated a spell. I activated Dark Bribe, and made him deck out.

Im not a very competitive player but my deck is actually very balanced and i find that dark bribe is not that bad of a card as long as you know how to use it and not wate it on stupid cards like upstart cause i have seen it happen, and usually i can disrupt a lot of plays with dark bribe and in this format noone expects you to negate that raigeki or soul charge that was supposed to turn the game around and sometimes you dont have the resources to pay for other cards that negate traps/spells and given that dark bribe negates both it is very versatile late game, early game i dont recommend using it
@vincentsissom41807 жыл бұрын
There is one type of deck that could use Dark Bribe, and that is an Deck where you have plenty of searching and summoning choices. A deck I can think of that could run Dark Bribe is Magnet Warriors, and that is because the Deck has so much searching that giving your opponent 1 card is almost pointless, especially if the card you negate is a board wipe. Let's look at the cards: Alpha the Electromagnet Warrior: Searches out your 2 Main deck boss monsters on Normal or Special Summon. Beta the Electromagnet Warrior: Searches out the other Magnet Warriors on Normal or Special Summon. Delta the Magnet Warrior + Magnet Field: Delta places an Magnet Warrior in the GY, which Magnet Field can then revive for no cost. And Delta can be summoned during your opponent's turn by an Electromagnet Warrior's effect. And if you have 3 Magnet Warriors in the GY when Delta hits the GY, you can get Valkyrion from your Deck to the field. Fusion Conscription- Helps you get to Imperion easier, which... Imperion Magnum the Superconductive Battlebot- Unless a Kaiju get rid of it, when sent to the GY, you get both an Valkyrion and a Berserion from the Deck or Hand to the field. Now you see why Dark Bribe is an OK choice for the Deck, because the Deck has so many ways to generate card advantage that giving your opponent a card is barely an issue. Would I use it over the cards you mentioned? Maybe, but sure as heck ain't going to main Deck it anymore. Side, sure, but not main.

I never thought about the comparison between discarding a card and allowing your opponent to draw one. I haven't played Bribe in years, but when its explained in those words, I would much rather run a card with discarding as its cost, than allow the opponent a free draw.
@suddenllybah7 жыл бұрын
Yup. Yu-Gi-Oh needs to be based more around honest normal summons for drawing 1 card to be worse than resolving a powerful spell/trap. (Double Summon style cards make normal summons less like normal summons)

As far as Bribe goes, Trickstars who use the empty hand combo could use it over something like Disturbance Strategy as it plays somewhat around Ash Blossom for the initial play to meet the condition for Droll. I wouldn't say it's exactly ideal, but it plays pretty well into the Trickstar strategy.

The best part about maining Burning Abyss back in the day was that there were so many cards from the past like Magic Jammer and Raigeki Break that now reward us for putting something in the grave.

Dark bribe was actually used years ago in dino rabbit deck and saw a lot of competitive play with it. I'm forgetting what was banned at the time judgement or warning but bribe was used because it protected everything and even with card advantage by the next turn you had laggia or dolkka out

back when i was playing yugioh at a semi competetive level in highschool (2012~2014) where darkworlds, gravekeepers, battlepack tourguide turbo were the "meta" decks, dark bribe were ran at 2~3 in every one's decks. Because our decks were so slow, we didn't really feel as if it was that bad of a card. Certainly has potential in slower formats
@slevinhyde32126 жыл бұрын
yeah because back then people had plays over a few turns, and you could get back that card advantage after having ruined their tempo. But now tempo is a bit irrevelant, since most decks have a big turn where they basically win on spot. And delaying that turn isn't that helpful.

You know, I used to think Dark Bribe was a no-brainer go-to. I was obsessed with being able to negate card effects, and I even tried to run a Blue Eyes Shining Dragon deck as a result. Of course, I didn't understand what "targeting" was, and that deck basically consisted of a bunch of random cards and the blue-eyes monsters for summoning it. And of course it was 60 cards too.

It's still important to consider fringe benefits for countertraps. A great many times someone won't play it just for the negation, but because of interractions within their own deck that make it preferable to other options.
@lefthandedscout99237 жыл бұрын
10:08 I actually disagree here - Dark Bribe is definitely worth activating if you have a Dark Law because you not only did a 1 for 1 trade, but you disrupted your opponent's play and therefore did something they didn't expect in 2 possible ways: 1 - negating their Spell/Trap that would extend their play 2 - banishing one of their hand cards and replacing it with a card from the top of their deck, making any combos they had envisioned when doing things earlier in their turn possibly stopped So while I still wouldn't main deck it ever, if I was finding that I was always getting out Dark Law in a hero variant then I guess I might consider adding Dark Bribe to the side deck...though it's definitely not going in over something like Ash Blossom, Ghost Ogre or any Solemn card.

Dark bribe was mostly for Dark World budget decks when they created the new structure deck. You used it with dragged down to make sure they had a card. Back then some decks would run out of cards in hand against Dark World early on. Good times :]
@bryantan42287 жыл бұрын
In Magic, its harder to generalize life vs card advantage. There are many decks within the game that can punish you for being even a tiny bit foolhardy with your life total. Like if you drop below half your life in Magic, every turn is a prayer to the gods above not to die.
@Accrovideogames4 жыл бұрын
Dark Bribe is actually pretty good in deck destruction decks. Heck, I even abuse Destiny HERO - Defender in my stalling deck. Why should I care if you have six indestructible 3,000+ ATK monsters on your side of the field and fifteen cards in your hand if I keep negating your attacks and protecting my LP with my army of battle phase negating traps? Oh, so you wiped out my field? Then let me introduce you to my hand traps! Oh, you also destroyed my entire hand? Then let me reintroduce you to those monsters you destroyed early, they can negate your battle phase when they're in the GY!

Dark Bribe has been okay in Demise decks over the past few years; they relied on maintaining floodgates to win, so giving them a card is fine because they aren't likely to be able to use it anyway. Also, Demise gave so much advantage that a minus 1 was a problem. Problems with the alternatives to Dark Bribe to Demise decks is that you do not have cards to discard--so also no Mind Crush--and well, Wiretap is cute, but usually you're after Spells, not Traps. Counter Fairies have better options, of course, but they tend to also not play floodgates in order to win. Recall is a card that should've been printed in the same set as Dark Bribe, or at least around the same time, because Strike is blatantly better. Then again, when Dark Bribe came out, Solemn Judgment was legal, pretty sure.

I actually used dark bribe in heroes during a regionals in 2015 and with dark law’s effect I hit that stupid bird that was so good with the pendulums and he folded. This was turn 2 and I’m not going to lie that was a good feeling. But now I just use the solemn cards

It's kind of amusing seeing this video as someone that pretty much only played during the "Set 4/Solemn Trio" times where using bribe on a D-prison, giant trunade, or torrential could easily set you up to win. I also loved this card in Empty Jar for obvious reasons. It's a little sad cause I really liked Dark Bribe just cause the art was the perfect representation of my inner feelings while I threw a wrench in my opponent's plan.

I built a deck based around the 'cost' of this card and many like it along with the card Greed which does 500 damage to the opponent for each card drawn out of draw phase. I can say that it is easily my worst yet best deck. Has the best 2 card combination in the game with Present Card and Null and Void (aka Noko) where the opponent discards their hand, draws 5, then I make them discard the five with Noko.

It's still bad in that deck for every reason he talked about in that video. Competitive Trickstar decks try to gain advantage with their small engine and disrupt with all the generic good cards they have space for. Giving your opponent a plus with Bribe is counterintuitive to that.

I haven't played in years, and when I did play I was a little kid who didn't know anything except how to lose local tournaments, so this Insight is probably either obvious or wrong, but it seems to me that even if dark bribe gives your opponent a dead draw, you're still helping them a lot because that dead draw would have happened during their next draw phase in you're letting them get a good card then instead.

If burn/aggro was more prominent in Yugioh like it is in Magic the Gathering then it would matter more being at low life points. Paying life for fetch lands is not much but it adds up fast, especially if you are using Ravnica lands where you pay life for them to be untapped. Then decks like Zoo and burn can make you rethink that as your life total suddenly becomes a lot more important to keep a check on. Magic number of 3 for a lightning bolt. One does 15% of your starting total. Yugioh does not have this to any common degree, that's why paying lifepoints doesn't matter and more beneficial. Magic the Gathering does have cards that make you lose life, but if that is an aggro match-up. That card draw or what you are using to gain life is going to look less effective and worse. Some decks like burn would kill for the chance for giving your opponent a free card for extra damage because they do not care about card advantage, just what life your opponent is left at. It's a difference in game design and key things that play out.
