It might not even have been Yoda's combat prowess that kept Sidious from sending Vader after him. It's possible he thought Yoda might be wise enough to even sow the tiniest seed of doubt in Vader, and risk turning him against the Emperor.

Yet Yoda did not believe in turning back from the dark side. That was entirely Luke’s. If Yoda believed someone could come back from the dark side, he would have said so, and would be less purist about everything. Probably Yoda would not seed doubt, but Yoda was certainly of lesser relevance in the bigger picture as he was old and alone, hiding and unable to plot anything before Luke came by. He could not even beat the emperor before because he was already fading to age (to his age, those few years Luke was growing up were nothing).

If Vader went after Yoda, it would have risked Vader being turned back into the light by the former grand master. He would talk and soothe the Sith Lord instead of immediately trying to kill him like obi one.

Sidious allowed himself to be beaten by Windu so that when a conflicted Anakin walked in, Sidious could completely manipulate him and secure his path down the dark side. Sidious could sense Anakin and his conflictions as he is very powerful in the force

If anybody beat Mace Windu it was Anakin with his passionate strike. However I know Mace is still alive out there. If Disney could give us a real actual solid Mace Windu series either before or after order 66 and do it right with Favreu and Filoni manning the helm, a lot of star wars fans would be very pleased. We've seen proof from Anakin and Ahsoka in the clone wars series that Jedi can use the force to break a fall from any height. Giving ample proof and reason that Mace at the very least survived the fall. I also doubt he would be stopped by any pursuing clone troopers because he literally just had an incredibly powerful sith begging on the floor to live.

Luke was right when he said, "Your overconfidence is your weakness." By not deeming Yoda as the primary threat and instead relishing in the fall of the Jedi, Sidious let his overconfidence allow Yoda and Obi-Wan to train Luke which led to his undoing.

Vader was his undoing. Obiwan and Yoda failed on all levels. They wanted Luke to kill Vader. It was Vader who in the end proved everyone wrong, except Luke, Padme, and Qui Gon.

@@connorism69 They trained Luke SPECIFICALLY to kill Vader. They FAILED. End of story. Luke did completely the opposite. Because Luke, like Qui Gon, and Padme were all wiser than Yoda and Obiwan. They also failed the Jedi. The Jedi were corrupt became war generals, not peace keepers, and hence the fall of the Republic. They became detatched from the force and could not see the Sith were near. And they also failed to understand the prophecy, etc.etc. In fact, the entire prequels are about these very subjects.

@@connorism69 After Yoda's death, Luke and Obiwan were talking, when Luke insisted that he felt good in his father, and that he would not kill Vader, Obiwan replied "Then the Emperor has already won." This was to be taken in many ways. Luke could fall to the dark side believing there was good in Vader - but also, the Emperor would order Vader to kill Luke and without Luke's willingness to fight back to the death, Vader would easily kill Luke. None of the Jedi Masters considered Vader- I mean Anakins' love for his children. The living Leia and Luke were his only connection to Padme, it wouldn't be a very hard bargain for him to be redeemed through that loving connection.

Even if Yoda wouldn't succeed to sway Vader back to the light, odds are he still would have defeated Vader in a fight. Either way: Sending Vader after Yoda would have amounted to giving away a perfectly good tool to terrorize the galaxy.

I think the Emperor knew Yoda had Luke and that the knowledge of his son and a chance at redemption may have brought Vader back to the light side (as it eventually would). The possibility of Yoda, Vader, Obi Wan and possibly a pure blood Jedi would be to powerful for him so he intentionally tried to keep them all apart.

None of them believed one could come back from the Dark Side and redeem. That was Luke’s doing, and what made him so important. The emperor did not know about Luke before… as the Force could show the future, but also confuse as Yoda says, because the future is always changing and you cannot ever know what future did you see. The Palpatine knew this, so even seeing that he could never be sure until it materializes. Same for Vader that could immediately search his feelings and know… but only after it became real.

Agreed. Vader would surely die in an encounter with Yoda. Not only was Yoda more knowledge and powerful in the Force, but Yoda’s extreme skill in lightsaber dueling would be devastating for Vader. Yoda duels with great speed and precision, while Vader is slow and relies on a strong defense. A skilled duelist like Yoda would overwhelm Vader, no matter his skill. Their opposing dueling methods and approach puts Vader at a big disadvantage. Vader’s attempt at using any Force abilities on Yoda would also prove to be pointless, Yoda’s knowledge is too great and pretty much has an answer for anything a Sith could throw at him. Even Palpatine’s incredibly powerful force lightning couldn’t outdo the Grandmaster, he absorbed it instead which no other Jedi could really do.

I think that Yoda could have conjured up mixed feelings in Anakin Skywalker by using his offsprings and attempting to turn Vader from the dark side. Yoda had a powerful mind as well.

I think Vader was so ruthless because despite his claims to the contrary, Anakin Skywalker still lived inside him. He thought if he went darker he could smother Anakin, but an ember of light still burned inside him and he knew it, which fueled his rage even more. Sidious foresaw that Anakin would return and destroy him, which is why he wants Vader to let go of Kenobi and leave Yoda well enough alone. Eventually the Emperor's overconfidence is his downfall, when he believes Vader can stand by and watch him kill his son. In my head canon Sidious is afraid of Yoda and Obi-Wan, because he can sense Anakin alive inside Vader.

My immediate thought is that Yoda of all people might have been able to sway Anakin to come back to the light side. I mean...look at how relatively easily Luke managed to do it, to the point where Vader picks up Palpatine and throws him into the abyss at the cost of his own life. It was really only a few encounters with his son that did the trick, so I think Anakin would definitely be susceptible to a wise enough, shrewd enough master like Yoda who needed, perhaps, only say the right thing to set that chain of events into motion and cause Vader's allegiance to the emperor to waiver. In terms of raw power, Anakin was already starting to rival Yoda before he became Darth Vader and would have in time surpassed them all - Palpatine and Yoda included. WITH his injuries and the suit and those heavy, cumbersome mechanical limbs slowing him down and limiting his ability to do things like use force lightning, he DOES have a disadvantage but his power in the force is still fearsome even by Yoda's standards. I think by the time of Luke Skywalker, Yoda had been in exile for so long and weakened in terms of how sharp his skills were, how practiced in the use of the force and a lightsaber he was, that a fight would still have probably gone in Vader's favor. Except that Yoda would probably know just what to say before he died to make Anakin awaken and eventually - as he ends up doing anyway - turn on the emperor. It was ALWAYS going to happen - it was destined - it was the prophecy - Anakin Skywalker was ALWAYS the one to bring balance to the force, one way or another, so whether Luke or Yoda would be the one to turn him back is not really relevant - it was DESTINED to happen. I think destiny plays a large role in Star Wars lore and Yoda interacting with Vader likely would have just sped up the process, if anything.

Luke at this point has no little to no idea of the heirarchy or history of the Jedi or how much more powerful Yoda is than the other characters. Yoda doesn't tell Luke "in my day kick ass I did". You need context to drop that line and expect a reaction.

In the novel Palpatine knew Yoda was dead because he asked Luke who else trained him and began to mention knowing about Yoda and saw Luke's reaction, smiled and then taunted Yoda's way of speaking by saying "Lives, he still?" and again, upon seeing Luke's reaction acknowledged Yoda's death.

I think Vader beats Yoda from IV-VI I may be mistaken but George Lucas said as much. Vader was in his Sith prime and Yoda was rapidly fading, clinging on to just enough life to teach Luke some basic fundamentals.

Yeah I am not sure, I am of the belief that if anything Yoda was one of the few that Anakin respected, a being that would rather talk through problems than escalate them so would converse with Vader before succumbing to the inevitable conflict. Now this conversation could be two fold, on one hand it would likely shaken Vader's resolve but also since Yoda knew of Luke and Leia, that knowledge alone would've awoken Anakin within and Sidious couldn't risk Vader's conflict within.

When we look at the Lucas directed films and sponsored materials... we get a much different view than those silly Disney Comics full of controversy. Yoda beat Palpatine in thier saber duel. That is not up for controversy. Palpatine, disarmed, was forced to use the Dark side force itself. As a complete master of the Dark Side, Sidious went toe to toe with Yoda. Watching it, most say it was a Draw as both were blown back by the power convergence. A few say Palpatine won because Yoda left afterward. But it wasn't (according to the novel) because he had lost, but to preserve the new found information he now had. He wasn't just fighting Palpatine, it was also a legion of troopers now on high alert. The clock was ticking, it was prudent to leave. Whatever your view of win or draw on the second part. Vader would need many years of experience to be better than Sidious. Had Vader challenged Sidious In those first 10 years... he would have lost. In force ability he could never match Sidious without the ability to use force lightning. Which puts Vader behind the nearly equal Palpatine and Yoda. Vader would not be able to defeat Yoda in a battle of Manipulation. DUELING: Yoda ->Sidious -> Vader FORCE ATTACK: Sidious =Yoda -> Vader. Conclusion: Sending Vader after Yoda was Sending your apprentice to his death. Without Vader, Yoda might even have looked for opportunities to go after Palpatine again. That makes Palpatine a prisoner in his own house. Palpatine, absolutely, wanted nothing more to do with Yoda. As a fugitive, Yoda was no threat. As a fugitive, Yoda was the prisoner in his own home.

Yoda was able to go toe-to-toe with Sidious and though "defeated", he nevertheless survived and permanently disfigured Palpatine while escaping unharmed. It's been shown that Darth Vader was no match for Sidious. Vader would have been completely outclassed by Yoda. Sidious' larger concern was keeping Darth Vader bound to the dark side. He was afraid that Yoda could have brought him back to the light side. This threat was so concerning to him that he downplayed the Jedi hunt; he knew it would ultimately lead to Yoda's capture. Yoda's threat was not only his outright skill, but also his ability to subvert Sidious' plans.

But Vader after become Vade was not a match for Yoda before the jedi falls probably. Them againt all this is because vader obvius weakness like his limited mobility, the fact that he lose a lot of his potential as Anakin after losing his limbs, etc... Vader (Anakin) was probably stronger than Sidious in order 66 in terms of potential. But all that was take from him and Palpatine take adventage of this fact. I never felt that Anakin or Vader held specific animosity towards Yoda. He was like everybody's lovable grandpa. My understanding is that Yoda stepped back and let Mace Windu take the lead throughout most of the prequels, as he was expecting Windu to take over from him as the next grand master. None of the bad choices that the jedi made were his, but he is responsible for not doing more to prevent them. He knew it was a bad idea for the jedi to get sucked into the clone wars. He knew that the jedi arresting the chancellor and taking charge of the republic was the wrong move. He knew that the board was set for a trap to be sprung by the Sith and that it would cost the jedi immensely. He probably saw more of the problems with the order than anybody else. He just felt that as he was so close to the end of his life that it was no longer his place to direct the order as he once had. I think Anakin understood this to some extent, and his main beef was with the order and with the council holistically. Hence why the target of Vader's ire is towards 3 main places: Obi-Wan, the order as a whole, and Mace Windu who died early on. I never felt throughout Vader's narrative that he ever blamed Yoda specifically.

Sidious even feard to do long 1v1 with yoda because he knew he will loss. and I think if Vader encountered Yoda, there is a chance Yoda could turned him back to the light side, because at the end, Anakin respected a lot master Yoda and Yoda's wisdom is in a higher level than Sidious. The only reason Anakin got convinced from Sidious manipulation was because he didn't have someone to counter his Idiology and suggestions etc. but if he had someone on the other hand, that's not sure Sidious could turn Anakin to the dark side.

Had Vader not been injured, after a few years of training he might have been more then a match for Yoda, but in Vader's state after his injuries if Vader had went out to destroy Yoda then odds are Vader might have turned back, and if not Yoda would have simply killed him. I am sorry if some might disagree, but I just do not see Vader being a match for Yoda after being placed inside the suit.

Vader projects the might of the empire by his presence alone and should he seek out Yoda there was a risk even a slight one that the grand master could defeat his right hand. This could put into question the emperor's power and cause the hold that he had over the systems to erode much quicker than it did. I think that Sidious knew that Yoda was not anywhere near as a significant threat if he was left alone, than if he had his apprentice seek him out. I also think that is why the emperor did not want Vader to seek out Obi-Wan because he knew that it would be his down fall.

Yoda could defeat Darth sidious. George Lucas is great when it comes to incorporating themes and motifs. While Obi Wan was fighting Anakin on Mustafar Yoda was fighting Sidious in the Senate halls. Both fights are themes... Yoda vs Sidious is the Jedi council vs the republic and Obi Vs Anakin is for the future for the dark side vs the light side. Yoda should be able to defeat Sidious but falls further down then Sidious...indicating how far the Jedi order has fallen out of touch with what was occuring. Yoda didn't fail bc he couldn't win, Yoda failed bc of how the last years of the Jedi affairs were handled. Whilst in theory Yoda should've been able to defeat Sidious Obi Wan shouldn't have been able to defeat Anakin..again a theme. Obi Wan beat Anakin bc of the theme that the light side will prevail. Idk I just came up with that but there has to be some type of semblance of truth there.

I think that would have been a terrible idea. It'd have meant him basically growing up as an orphan at his great-(great-...) grandparent's home out alone in the forest (almost like a Kaspar Hauser). I mean, just look at his first feat - flying an X-Wing in the trench: He'd most probably never learned the skills or even developed a fascination for piloting. And on top of it: Would it really have been wise to train him like Jedi had been trained for thousands of years and like Yoda had trained them for centuries? After all, the failing of this method and teachings was a major part of why the order had fallen.

Honestly I think sidious, despite his vast content with his empire and how things shook out (until Luke came along obviously), based on a lot of interactions with him and Vader discussing his attachments to obi wan and how sidious was glad obi wan took his lightsaber so it wouldn't remind him of his former self, sidious still had some deep, dark hidden fear that if obi wan couldn't, perhaps Yoda could bring anakin back if Vader was let off his leash to engage and likely lose to yoda. Despite yoda's failings and temporary misery I have a good feeling yoda could and would have made Vader see the bigger picture again as Luke did if he had met Vader again in the early days of the empire, and Palpatine felt deep down that it was a grim possibility. Let's be real, despite yoda being misguided when the jedi were shrouded in darkness by the force, he always tried to be there for anakin and his failure would likely let him understand anakin's suffering even further and let him reach out to him, even in open combat. And what's worse than a slave apprentice openly plotting against you constantly? A redeemed hero that discovers his children are still alive and helps his former master train them, that's what.

Palpatine/Sidious fell into the classic trap of very powerful Sith Masters in that he became overconfident and dismissed the Jedi as any real threat to the Empire now that he ruled the galaxy. Though I do think that if Vader had encountered Yoda then Vader would have been killed given that Yoda was a master of combat both with a lightsaber and with his force powers in general due to both his natural power level and having centuries of experience in using said powers.

I believe it was skillful luck that Sideous escape the fight with Yoda, remember he was in a hurry to leave. And knowing Yoda was an is very wise, more powerful that Sideous had thought. Sideous would have known in Vader's current state he would be defeated easily, for Vader was not a match for the 800 year old grandmaster. And I agree Yoda would seed doubt, truth and knowledge in Vader which would cause him to turn against the Emperor. Reminding him he is more a slave to emperor than impenitence

Palp didn't want to kill Yoda because he wanted him to train Luke after that he could turn Luke to the dark side. On the other hand Vader knew from experience the hold the jedi's have over their pupils and how hard it is to break that hold so he felt like it was usless. Also that would be his replacement. Palpatine was an opportunist more than a mentor. He would rather let someone else do all the work and steal all the credit at the last second. He just overestimated his persuasiveness to turn others to the dark side. By this point Yoda was old and frail literally barely able to move when he met Luke. He died laying in his bed not to far afterwards. The only threat Yoda was to the the empire was a philosophical threat and not a physical threat. Obi Wan was a much greater threat as he was more involved in the empires affairs

Jedi follow the will of the force and Yoda was the most force aligned because of his age and biological alignment with it (as a child he was probably more aligned than any human jedi ever managed to get), annakin was the chosen one and he was to bring balance to the force, in the end he did just not in an expected way

I believe the emperor always sensed the conflict in Vader. And Anakin always possibly popping out. I think he thought Yoda could maybe even turn Vader to the light. The emperor was to calculating to risk a chance Vader would turn. I think with Luke he was willing to risk Vader if he had a chance at getting Luke as an apprentice. He wanted to replace Vader for Luke. He saw Luke as a form of Anakin.

I think in the first few years after Order 66 Yoda would have been superior to Vader in a lightsaber duel & especially in force abilities but close to A New Hope timeline Vader would pose a great threat to the aging Yoda. Once its clear Yoda is going to stay in exile and pose no direct threat to the Empire there was no reason to take the risk imo.

Vader could not hope to match Yoda. He's 900 years old and fought Sidius to a draw. Sure Vader had the highest MC count of any being in the galaxy and was a master of Form 5 prior to his suit, that alone would keep him on pace in a Lightsaber duel. However in terms of Force Abilities, Yoda would easily overpower Vader. This is due to his lack of emotional control.

We just saw Obi Wan in his prime defeat Vader for the second time and only eventually lost to Vader not because Vader was so much more powerful but because Obi Wan allowed it to happen. In other words Obi Wan let Vader win. This proves that Vader would not stand a chance against Yoda. Anakin at full power would but not Vader as Vader is only a shadow of who Anakin was and could have been.

I honestly think that Yoda would be an extremely dangerous target for Vader to take on. He's small and fast, which I would say is one of his biggest advantages. It's hard to hit something small that moces fast and in wierd directions since Yoda's lightsaber style (style 4) relied a lot on using the force to help with movement during a lightsaber duel. Vader might be strong, but with Yoda's experience and stature, he might just be able to strike the dark lord down. Worst case scenario, I'd day that Vader would need a bit of backup. Maybe if he had assistance from Boba Fett, then it would be a win for Vader, but Yoda really is a tough one and it'd still be a gander on wether they would actually beat him or not. I think it'd be the perfect stalemate, unless Yoda decided to use Force Judgement (light side version of force lightning). From what we've seen, Vader doesn't do too well with electrical currents 😂

I just had a thought about the Kenobi ending... The reason Kenobi over powered Vader was that he finally understood why Vader turned to the Dark side. He understood what Anakin and Luke understood about the the Force and and why only Light side users could be Force Ghost. Qui Gon thought it was compassion and selflessness that made Force Ghost. But he was never able to materialize. Yoda thought it was releasing yourself into the Force that made you a Force Ghost. But Anakin had it right the whole time. It was love and the willingness to sacrifice everything that enabled you to turn into a Force Ghost. Obi Wan was the the perfect Jedi right.... But no Qui Gon right.... it wasn't until he thought about Leia and Luke... Anakins children. He let the Force flow through him the way he did during his "Battle of the Heroes" fight. Obi Wan also was way aggressive during this fight,much like Luke but Obi Wan was not Luke he walked away when he should've stayed like Asohka and Luke.

I find most of this plausible, EXCEPT the part where you stated about where Dagobah is in the outer stretches of the galaxy. YES that is true but in terms of location it is more or less a hop skip and less than a jump from Mustafar, where Vader was headquartered mostly out of. It's not like he was hiding in hutt controlled space or past Kessel. He was just around the corner from Vader. I feel that the force was such a strong presence on Dagobah, that Vader couldn't sense him there individually. Kind of too blurry to pinpoint him, so he didn't even notice.

Well he isn't really that immobile, his replacement cybernetics were just heavier and lengthier than his previous limbs. In the OT he's seen kneeling down to Palpatine, lifting people by the neck with his own hands, and obviously raising Palpatine with both his arms before yeeting him to his death. He may be slower and bigger than when he was Anakin but he uses the force to bypass his limitations just like Yoda does.

Honestly the only chance Vader stands a chance against Yoda is based on Yoda himself. If Yoda sees any hope for Vader, he would likely hold back as he wouldn’t try to immediately kill him. That’s when Vader would have to strike him down. But even that would be difficult to do, Yoda in has a high awareness when it comes to the Force and would sense Vader’s intentions. if Yoda fully intends to kill Darth Vader upon their encounter, it’s over for Vader.
