When I was growing up in the 80s and 90s skating all the time I didn't wear Thrasher because I felt I wasn't a good enough skater to wear it. It was for those guys that were skilled enough to get into the magazine. Don't wear a Social Distortion or Descendents t-shirt if you don't listen to their music.

Doesn't matter your age, race, gender, or wealth background, the feeling of landing a trick that took you forever to learn is priceless. Skaters also look at societal architecture different from everyone else as we see the skate potential in everything: stairs, rails, sidewalk gaps, roofs, etc.

It’s equal parts fascinating & sad to possibly be a witness to the cultural dead end in the west. Subcultures stand no chance of cultivating organically anymore thanks to the internet resulting in the youth of today desperately scrambling/mining the last 30 + years of pop culture to create a pastiche Frankenstein of yesteryears scraps. Yesterday’s nerd/weirdo is rinsed off & given a cool haircut. Fingers crossed the kids being born today will find the well dry by then & be forced into a renaissance.
