I think marvel is understanding that they can go alt universes and switch it up. It gives them flexibility with their output. and movie direction. I don’t think people will care as much about the same actor as long as the movies are good. And who knows, now it makes seeing a different actor as iron man more plausible. An alternate Tony Stark as Doom? Or even RDJ playing Victor, a totally separate character? This could have been an awesome reveal had they done it in the movies. But no, some exec probably thought it was a better idea to reveal it to everyone outside of the movies. They killed any hype they could have built for the mystery surrounding the Dr. Doom. And they made the MCU look desperate for attention.

Also the fact that they are obvious about it is somehow worse. Like Chris Evans as jonny was before marvel knew what they were doing so thats sort of forgotten about as it were. You have to give credit to Jon Favreau. He was pushing to cast someone that “everyone” was resistant about back in Iron Man. Now, the push back is from the audience who is resistant to him playing Dr Doom (at least partly). If anything imo, Favreau sees something that the normal movie goer doesn’t which is the fascinating part. I’m sure he would be the first to say RDJ isn’t right for Dr Doom.

There is a legal requirement to have the actors face exposed in the movie a certain % of the films duration. This is why Jon Favreau came up with the idea of Iron Mans inner mask camera shots to offset his always armored costume scenes. Doom won’t have this and they can’t copy this camera shot for the same actor and different character. This will be a travesty.

Towards the end they'll reveal Victor was behind Galactus and when they confront him he'll tell them his name is Doom. They'll fight and win but bearly and thats when they reveal it was a doombot. The end credit could be a spin on the iron man Hammerimg scene with doom building more doombots for the Avengers doomsday. Or it could be him talking to a recasted Kang

They have yet to capture the true essence of Dr. Doom in any TV show or movie to this date. The only media that has ever captured Dr. Doom outside of the comics are video games. Mostly the Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Every movie Doom has been beyond bad. I hope they can get it right. For me personally Robert Downey was already Ironman. It is going to be hard to separate him from that ironic role, unless they the writers do a bang up job on giving us a real Dr. Doom. And then Downey is going to have to do what he did for Ironman but for Victor Von Doom. It is like trying to capture lighting in a bottle 2 times. I will be impressed if they can pull it off. But I highly doubt it.

I disagree. I don't share the same understanding on repeating actors to different character in the saga. Specially if that actor had the popularity that RDJ as Tony Stark. Can you imagine Chris Hemsworth’s Thor as another character in this saga? if actors like RDJ want to evolve or move away from the strong stamp that these long movie sagas have placed on their careers, stepping outside of the Marvel universe would be a good idea. There’s a wealth of fresh talent out there, and it’s time for new stars to emerge, bringing fresh energy and ideas to these franchises instead of recycling the same actors.

If they have Doom be a Tony variant or be connected in any way to Ironman i genuinely won't watch it, i have been hoping for Doom for years more than any other character in Marvel, but it being in any way connected to Ironman, will immediately kill all hype for me, even if he just has Robert Downey Jr face I'll wait till after the movie comes out and intentionally spoil myself to see if they do or don't reference him in any way, if we get even a little meta joke from Deadpool i won't watch it, if there's an emotional moment where Spider-Man sees tge face of his Mentor i won't watch it To be honest even if RDJ wasn't Ironman I'd be disappointed with this casting because there are much better choices for a Doom, Jason Issacs would be my personal choice for Doom (if not Doom then he's also perfect for Magneto), but really knowing that it's almost guaranteed we see some acknowledgement of Tony looking like Doom, there are hundreds of actors or actresses I'd prefer for Doom over RDJ

@@CantinaTalkSW yes but if they have him even look like RDJ then they will most likely have him interact with characters who know Tony and have some acknowledgement of them looking the same, which is for me a deal breaker, even if it's a completely perfect Doom for almost all of the movie but at 1 point Deadpool makes a meta joke about it,then I have no interest in seeing that or really any other mcu projects, and I actually have liked phases 4 and 5 yet that 1 possibility of there being a reference, joke or connection of some kind about them being similar looking has already made me less exited about the future of the MCU as a Whole, the only possible reference I'd okay with is if Spider-Man sees Doom who looks like Tony and as they're about to have a moment, Doom immediately and effortlessly kills Spider-Man and it's gruesome, and we never see an MCU Spider-Man again, which I don't want because I like Spider-Man but only that would overcome the damage to Doctor Doom as a character that would occur if there is any reference to Tony and Doom looking similar

Honestly I can’t see who would fit it better as in I can’t name an actor who would fit the role, don’t really think RDJ is a good fit I’m not saying I hate it I just feel like casting rdj is a cash grab cos nearly everyone saying that since RDJ has left the franchise the MCU been in a slump and I think Kevin and the others picked up on that brought him back for “appeasement” for the fans. and Ik ik that’s what everyone is saying which makes my argument obsolete atp, yeah maybe they did look thru a 100 of different actors for the role for they resettled on rdj. but personally, I feel like rdj has already made his mark as iron man, why squander that by making him VVD?
