Robert Reed was known to be difficult and the stories of him not getting along with Sherwood Schwartz on the Brady Bunch are legendary. Also, John Travolta is supposed to be one of the nicest stars to both work with and towards fans and he stayed friends with so many he worked with: Olivia Newton John, Kirstie Alley, the guy from Welcome Back Kotter Lawrence Hilton Jacobs, etc.

Robert Reed was a closet homosexual...and Travolta is an alleged closet homosexual. Perhaps that was part of it. Reed was also, though he was talented; a bit of a primadonna. According to gossip.

Robert Reed was playing a police detective on Mannix while doing the Brady Bunch. Granted he was in not every episode as they had an actor Ward Wood who played Art Malcolm. Reed drove Sherwood Schwartz crazy by mentioning how much better the TV scripts of Mannix were better than the Brady Bunch.

@@FactsVerse I do not think Robert Reed was speaking out of turn by stating the obvious about the Brady Bunch scripts being worse than Mannix. As much I love Mannix, Season Episode 1 Episode 2 Skid Marks on a Dry Run when he was at Intertect is the same script as Season 6 Episode 21 Search for a Whisper. Done to save money. Get to see Yvonne Craig and William Shatner and Norm Pitlik who used to direct episodes of Barney Miller in Season 6. Notable name in Season 1 is Wende Wagner who played the Reid's secretary in the Green Hornet and Vincent Gardenia. If Mannix had not ditched the computer private detective agency and put Gail Fisher in a more conventional detective story, the show would have bombed.

Mr. Reed wasn't in the final Brady Bunch episode, though I understand he remained on set to watch. The running joke about the Brady Bunch was all six kids had to share one bathroom and what was Mr. Bradys’ occupation but an architect! The other joke was you never saw a toilet because the kids were so wholesome and clean that they didn’t need one. Of course this brings it full circle to your observation that they were so upstanding that Mike Brady would have quit his job before having to miss Gregs’ graduation.

Robert Reed was Shakespearean trained actor who always questioned the quality of the materials provided to him. He constantly fought over the scripts with The Brady Bunch’s Sherman Schwartz. Many times he refused working until changes were made. Also, he was a perfectionist and had high standards. But at the same, he was very professional and respectful towards his fellow actors and crew. Of course in this case, Reed assumed that he was the bigger actor. So it makes sense that he would have issues with Travolta.

Lots of times TV producers create a show they think people will like and the audience responds to something in the show that producers don't expect. An example is Steven Quincy Urkel taking over the show Family Matters. Same thing for the show Family Ties which was taken over by Michel J Foxes character Alex Keaton . The people who liked the Brady Bunch like the kids, not the parents.

And we both are smart enough to know some women will leave their husband for a more wealthier man, and younger if she is lucky. I have a lot in common with looking at a woman from the outside, but nothing at all from the inside. That is my feelings about younger women. It's all about a person reclaiming their youth. Why? They have already lived young. What can Madonna do for a young man? The same thing that Cary Grant did for Dyan Cannon. There's a huge gap of time between the two. It's like taking a time machine backwards, or forward. How does one adjust to that time sphere? It would not be impossible to do so, but it's easier said then done.. If two people make each other happy, and fulfill the expectations, and trust, and give all of their passions to one another, more power to them!

Robert Reed! Great Actor! Also Hot Head! Him of all people should have realized what show business was all about! John Travolta aka "Welcome Back Kotter's" Vinnie Barbarino Had a Show's commitment! as well as movie "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble" Time limit! To me the movie was one of my favorites as well as "Grease" with Travolta! Sad that Diana Hyland aka First Mom Joan Bradford from TV Show "Eight is Enough" Passed away so early! Travolta to me would of played a good Barry Williams aka Greg Brady Fill In! Use to think that they could of passed for Brothers! It's pretty neat that they are around Seven months apart in age!

At first I thought you were gonna say Reed and Travolta were in a relationship at some point in their lives…. So this individual went above and beyond to save a movie….. I wonder, if that casting director was a she and not a he, would things have been different? Would Reed have walked off the set and be replaced by another actor? Maybe Florence Henderson ……? Kidding about that last part! LOL!

Yep he was well known for being difficult and he felt he was too good for the The Brady bunch sitcom because he was classically trained and thought the show was beneath him.

Let's be honest tho Robert Reed must been bi-polar or really unhappy with his life because it's been reported that he always had issues with other actors or directors very unhappy man.

“Must been bipolar”. “Let’s be honest”…? This is your honesty😂 you don’t even know what you’re talking about. Episodes of depression followed by manic episodes don’t make you hard to get along with. IT’s accompanying mental issues that do that. People have known that since like 1985 🙄

Odd that the casting director would be the one who was so concerned with saving the production money on the makeup job. Or maybe he had additional motivations that he didn't mention.

No doubt working with Travolta was difficult being a spoiled child to begin with and Robert Reed had gained some success and paid the price of having to live a closeted life.... really no drama here and it is redundant that so many channels keep kicking at a dead dog.

Robert Reed was a very lonely soul. Evidently, he was a good actor but away from the camera, Reed, couldn't ever come to terms with his emotions. His frustrations were pent up as he was highly internalized and eventually he would explode. His life was a sad one and I doubt he was very happy - even with his acting.
