If we were to give animations a priority number, switching is +7, things like Mega Evolution is +6, with the first actual move being Helping Hand at +5. And I actually got into an argument with someone in the comments who had multiple people arguing back at him when he stopped replying to me on his refusal to accept how good Speed was. You would think that Electrode being usable in OU despite bad stats everywhere else because it had a good enough movepool to take full advantage of its Speed would be enough evidence that Speed is important, but apparently not. I did get one interesting reply out of the argument from someone else popping in though: could distributing/boosting every other stat at the cost of Speed still allow a Pokémon to function? Their example being if Landorus-T would still function as is if its speed stat was dropped to 1 and every other stat was boosted by 15.

It's interesting because it's one of those things that doesn't sound like a huge deal until you think about it, right? I mean, if you've got more attack and defense then you should hit harder and take more damage. That makes it the better Pokemon, right? And it's not like Speed gets you more turns, so how good could it really be? And then you realize that being faster essentially means you just get an extra turn, and in a game where you can already double your attack with typing and get really good boosts off of STAB, that's absolutely the difference between whether you win or lose. If it takes two hits to kill something then having more speed is literally the difference between whether or not you get that second hit in, among other things. It's so easy to ignore from a casual perspective until you stop and realize that having enough speed to go first means you get an entire free move in before your opponent can even really do anything with their active Pokemon! (priority shenanigans aside)

I was definitely a fan of Ninjask and the concept of Baton Pass; it's a shame it's banned now (or so I hear).
