I’ve never owned a staffy. But as a plumber I go in multiple different houses on a daily basis to do repairs, so I can confirm this is completely true with staffys. I’ve never come across a single staffy that has shown aggression, all these dogs want to do is lick you to death. So if you want a guard dog a staffy is a terrible choice as they are far too friendly with strangers. I’d say staffys are a great choice of dog as a family pet, like a Labrador or a golden retriever, but if you want a proper guard dog then you’d be better off going with a Rottweiler or a Doberman.

My 16yo brindle staffy girl is with me 100% of the time. At my work, she is the meet and greet team. She loves on just about everyone, however, she sometimes walks towards a customer, stops, thinks, then walks away... They are the people to keep an eye on!... Also, if needed, and with a simple command, she seems to boof out to double her size, stands in front of me and lets people know that she is 'on duty'. Best, most lovable and loyal breed ever...

I moved into my new home with my wife and we had the crime prevention officer pop round to check out our house. This was simply the done thing by the local office. Once he saw our Staffie. he said ' If anybody breaks in here, they deserve to keep whatever they can get their hands on because I feel that they are one of the best guard and protection dogs for your wife and yourself. ' I know of several incidents where my friends have had burglars and they got away with nothing because they had Staffies. Also, I know a reformed burglar who now works with the police and he is a locksmith and he said he knew of no burglar that would break in if the family had a Staffie. So, having had Staffies since 1984, I have to disagree. Besides, most burglars leave any house that has a dog that barks. They simply look for a house without a dog.

They instinctively protect the weakest. Kids, women, men, in that order. Especially kids tho & especially female staffies, they love kids. They don't much care about property, tho they can get real aggressive if they alone in a vehicle for some reason. Bred them back in the 80s/90s, so this is pedigree English staffies I'm talking about, don't know if the breed changed since. Also I'm talking about dogs brought up right, abused dogs capable of terrible abnormal behaviour, can't account for them.

My staffy is 100% just as you describe. He does alert when someone is near by. He approaches strangers with a grin 😁 but of course people think he is growling. His grin is so cute when you realize he is happy to see you. I tell people not to freak out and to extend their hand to him and he will understand you are friend. But his grin… its so cute but terrifying to people. When he does something bad and I ask him why is he doing it or catch him, he grins and gives that sad dog look. He is a rescue and he has never forgotten how I changed his life.

That's about right, Staffies have no interest in guarding property in fact, for a treat or a belly rub they would probably hold the torch for the burglar and show them where the valuables are kept however, if a Staffy feels its owners is in danger they will defend them and attack if necessary and as they have a bite pressure of around 132PSI and an ability to lock on to an attacker they are not to be messed with.

Staffies are GREAT watch dogs. They will watch burglars carry stuff out the door as long as they are given a treat and some pats lol. That said.....the burglars better come in through the door like everyone else, otherwise, the dog will think something is wrong and that's when they go bonkers. And if they decide to bite someone.....it's a done deal. Generally speaking, if a staffie doesn't like you, then I won't trust you because they can size up, assess, and peer into the soul of people and know when someone isn't a good person. We had a staffie that would lose her freaking mind if anyone came to the house that was taller than hubs. As soon as they would sit down, no longer a threat to the pack leader, and it was love and licks. Crazy dog lol. Sure miss that little girl! My only mini-pit. The others have been 'normal' sized, about 50-60 pounds. She was a whopping #28 and absolutely fearless.

@cymar1000 Жыл бұрын
@@queennanna5595 Not necessarily. I had a rescue staffy (no longer with us) who spent the first 7.5 months of his life being bullied by his siblings, then beaten and seriously abused by his owner's partner. When we got him, he was initially fine with other dogs, but became more and more aggressive toward them (unless he was slowly introduced and knew them well). When it came to people though, he was the biggest smoosh you could come across, but with children and babies, he was incredibly protective. In fact, my friend paid me a flying visit with her 5wk old baby, on the way to pick up her other kids from school. I told my rescue and my female staffy to "watch the baby", and they flanked either side of the car seat, on the floor, and remained ever watchful over her until my friend was leaving. I never trained him to be so protective of any little one, but when it came to leave, he and my female staffy, would not let my friend take her baby, and growled at my friend for trying to remove the little one, until I told them to stand down. Between both of them, any young child that they were tasked with protecting, they would have ripped any kidnapper, or potential threat, to shreds and put their lives on the line to protect the children. So it goes to show that not all staffies that have a seriously rough start in life, will go on to be the same in adulthood.
