This is a great video. Imagine if everyone who did a review on an electronic item did one this thorough. I love that you really went into detail about each issue you've seen in your many rentals, Bennie. Thanks!

I think that the reason they tell you NOT to power the module with trailer power is because when the trailer battery dies, you have no brakes. Also if you have 12v power wired into your trailer battery, it will charge the trailer battery. Is that cable thick enough for that? If not, it will always be getting really hot...especially if your trailer battery was depleted.

The directions don’t specify why, but I believe it has something to do with the Autowbrake checking for another (tow vehicle mounted) brake controller after being powered up. There will no doubt be some draw on the battery when not in use but I don’t think it would be significantly different than all the other things in an RV. The 12V charge system from the tow vehicle should absolutely be wired to the trailer mounted battery. If it’s not the battery will go dead during travel just from actuating the trailer brakes. I agree that over current would be a bad thing and cause excess heat on that wire, however the circuit should be fused correctly for the gauge wire used and not capable of over current. I suppose reaching out to Autowbrake wouldn’t be a bad idea to see what the reasoning is, but it won’t change the install procedure. That will remain hard to accomplish.

The advantages the autowbrake has over the Curt Echo, for my application, are all mentioned in the video. I have no additional thoughts on it. Thanks for watching!
