Also lets give some love to goalie bob aka the goalie coach for the bruins. Its not often a team can go from 2008 all the way to 2024 without ever having a season w meh goaltending. Ullmark, rask, and thomas all won vezinas. Swayman could potentially and every backup option they had to get panned out (johnson, khudobin, vladar, halak etc). The bruins play great team defense and really allow their goalies to see pucks and play to the best of their abilities. Not to mention donny be fleecin on some of these trades and the frugal free agency moves have always been solid.

The Bruins "We Ar Fam-ill-ee" ethic pays huge dividends. Bergeron and Marchand were never paid what they could have fetched on the open market, not close and they chose to be forever Bruins. Building strong chemistry through commitment, team work and, yes, LOVE, has made the Bruins what they are. Neither Seguin or Kessell belonged there and weren't missed. Hats Off!

As a Bs fan I think it comes down to just a few things. Goaltending, we’ve gone from Tim Thomas to Tuukka to now Swayman and Ullmark. That’s 14 years of elite goaltending. Then there’s the defense led by guys like Chara and Seidenberg to now McAvoy and Lindholm. The next part is leadership. Chara to Bergeron to Marchand. And lastly Sweeney’s ability to sign all of their major pieces to below market level contracts.
@CatherineDupuis87
@CatherineDupuis87 5 ай бұрын
I really is an entire-franchise thing. I watch their AHL affiliate play almost every weekend and the guys just feel so comfortable. You can tell that they genuinely want to be in this system. They come in and are treated well (there are no "rookies" after Chara banned the term in his captaincy) and are really allowed to thrive. Having the affiliate so close is nice as well, because you can get to Providence from Boston in less than an hour on a good day. The thing is, like you mentioned, they're firm in their ways and if you aren't ready or willing to play "Bruins hockey" you're not going to be a good fit.

There is also a culture of what it is to be a Boston Bruin. The Bruins' Management are Bruins Legends like Cam Neely and Don Sweeney. The Bruins have so many veterans from the team still coming to talk with new players who are going to wear the black and gold for the first time, like Ray Bourque and Johnny Bucyk. It is a special thing to be a Boston Bruin and the players and organization are brought up with that mentality of showing effort, grit, toughness, and playing hard 'till the buzzer.

That was a Great video bro!! As a Spoked B diehard I honestly appreciate being able to have and enjoy a hockey season every year. Now, last year was the most fun season of my life..but the pain that awaited..I want no part of it this year and truly don’t think they will cause they truly aren’t as good. Goaltending has covered up a lot so far but they are on a 3 game skid and gotta battle out of it. They had zero adversity last season which I believe hurt us once the pressure was high. Lastly, that 2015 draft makes us Bruins fans sick. Only DeBrusk made it and some of the guys they passed on it’s insane to think of what could’ve been but I bleed Black n Gold and appreciate always having a team that has a legit chance at the playoffs. @TheFoolintherainn

Not anymore. Politics has gotten too ridiculous - Massachusetts is one of the most litigious states in the nation. They literally steal children for profit. They're very heavy on canceled culture - their media is extremely controlled. A lot of older athletes end up in Boston because they'll get excellent training and rehabs. Tuukka Rask's daughter had a medical issue - he hangs around Boston But Pasta has made it clear, listen to his Czechian radio interviews - he doesn't like Boston nor the USA as far as living. He's here for one reason, one reason only - to get that cup. Otherwise when he's asked where he wants to be? Or he likes to vacation? He talks about back home. I really think his Barbie song and dance is more a parody on Americans. Making fun. Rightfully so. Back in the 60s 70s and 80s - Boston athletes used to enjoy fishing up in maine, new hampshire... We used to see Boston Red Sox athletes and staff out and about fishing. But even that's gone because of politics. Many, maybe most Original six bruins fans don't live in New England anymore Why we see so many black & gold jerseys in every arena. Now in alaska, I've been surprised at how many Russian and Eastern European bruins fans exist. Russians love Alex ovechkin, but many wear black & gold!

They just value their team and franchise and culture so much higher than a lot of other teams, and the fans understand that. They don‘t overhype players who play 5 good games just to overpay them for 5+ years. No individual is bigger than the team. Seguin, thornton, dougie hamilton. Every player that wanted to get the big money on their next deal because of free agency value got traded. Even the rookies get that from minute 1. poitras, swayman, grizz, macAvoy, carlo, etc all came in and just played for the franchise, not for themselves. And this grinding culture makes bottom 6 guys feel like their stars play for them too. When was the last time the bruins didn‘t have a great bottom6? 1990?

They weren't far apart I've always wondered whether krug was one of the players that wasn't happy in Cassidy's "system" the negotiation was very close. I think it was something non-monetary that affected Torey's decision But hey - if St Louis wants to overpay me? I might take it also. I still think we haven't seen the last of Krug in Black & Gold. The blues have already shopped him around, they're likely going to have to eat part of his contract. If his contract wasn't so darn heavy... @@03Trot oh I was just having fun with that one..... I can still see him spinning on the ice with Pasta Pasta likes playing with tori. So there's that. I don't see it happening under his current contract. Yet it would not surprise me if somehow he showed up in Black and Gold before he was done. It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't either because the difference between the bruins offer and his demand was miniscule. So there could have been other reasons he left. Like Cassidy. We're just talking here - but when players come from lower teams on to the bruins? They usually have another gear. So if krug did somehow return to the bruins, I don't think he'd be playing exactly the same as he is in St louis. He'd be playing in a different system. But the way he came into the nhl? Undrafted? I don't see him leaving the NHL in a traditional way either. And it was the Boston bruins that took the big gamble on him. He did not come through the draft but through a bruins scout from what I recall So he may be back full circle. Like Chara did with the Islanders We'll see. Again - just having fun. I am a bruins season ticket holder. A factor that people always look past are salaries. In the last 10+ years, players have always taken salary friendly team deals to stay on the team. With a team first mindset, no one is looking for that "payday contract". Players don't get upset and leave the team to make an extra $500k/year to play for a worse team just for money. When you get players to stick around on the team long term, they don't need to learn new plays, systems or strategies since they have learned them with the team in the past

This was a great analysis of the Bruins and I would enjoy seeing more of these analysis'. Most impressive is their consistency making the playoffs. But I would argue that last years outstanding win/loss record owes much to Overtime and is not even in the top 5 of greatest single seasons. They won 11 OT games so in a pre-OT era the record would have been 54-12-16. Extrapolating for a 78 season ~52-11-15, i.e less impressive than the 71 Bruins 57-14-7, adjusting for 78 game schedule or not.

It's scary because it doesn't look like they will need a rebuild. They already have Pasta, Swayman, McAvoy. #1 players in their respective positions. If they can get more deph which they already have. Zacha. Portrais. Lysell upfront. And if they want to head into a maybe 1 year no playoff season where they trade away a big name for futures. This is how you build a team. The gms literally have to miss pretty much every next 1st till Pasta McAvoy and Swayman fall off. They will continue to keep these core three. Have their young deph go to work and free agent signings. They can easily stay a playoff team for the next 20 years. And this is coming from a HABS FAN. Yes. A Habs fan.

Lets no forget. The Habs were also a super competitive team for a long time. They had similsr drafting. Getting booms like Subban and Price. And busts like Galchenyuk. Thats star talent. Building a team that has goaltending with the likes of Price and still managing to have the offense they did is impressive. Lets also not forget the Habs made 3 confrence finals. One final in their 10 year competitive window. Being considered a playoff wc1-3rd team and showing a 30% conference finals chance in the playoffs is insanely impressive. I wouldn't be surprised at any moment for the Bruins go from the state their in to the bottom like the Habs. Both had major opportunities to be dynasties. The Habs with 3 confrence finals and a cup final gave them on paper a 100% chance at a cup. 25% each cf 50% each final. Obviously that never happened. But a team that can maintain sucess like the Habs did in the playoffs is a dynasty. Even with no cups.

Ain’t no rebuild coming soon brotha. The Great thing about the Bruins is they don’t hit rock bottom to have to rebuild. They retooled this past offseason. After the season they’ll have a lot of money to sign free agents and the cap is supposed to go up pretty significantly. They are fine. Marchand will retire in a few years but they got 2 guys in Pasta and McAvoy locked up for their Prime. They will be fine. Let’s Go Bruins!!

Let's not forget that while people love to call Minnesota "the state of hockey", Massachusetts is flooded with talent and even average citizens are knowledgeable about and many even have played hockey. Most of the US's best talent comes from the area, and they have the original 6 history to encourage free agents from elsewhere as well. The Bruins have made a lot of great decisions in recent history, and that focus on winning grit has paid off well. But they have some inbuilt advantages as well.

@TheFoolintherainn
@TheFoolintherainn 5 ай бұрын
@@Earthboundmikeit quietly does affect other teams - Brad marchand stated awhile back that he would never take more than Patrice bergeron. And he has not. When I see contracts out of certain players, you know they're valued more - but it makes me realize we're dealing with a real hockey player. A team player - who knows not to bleed their lines dry. So what happens on land spills over on the ice. And that's why bruins can develop teams - because they already know who they are, what kind of a team player- through the contract negotiation. There's a lot of little things that go on behind the scenes that don't fall under the salary cap - why I'm not convinced Jeremy is staying nor the future of the bruins Fans still do not understand last year's success was created by goalie Bob specifically hand selecting each game. Jeremy did not get a heavy load, take on full healthy elite teams in their houses. He never won in Carolina nor did he win in sunrise Florida against Panthers But what most fans don't realize - is every time a goalie wins awards like Vezina & the Jennings, as they did last year - goalie Bob gets financial bonuses. That are not counted under the salary cap! You notice Jeremy is not handling the load as a #1 goalie right now- he doesn't handle back to backs yet. I think the lack of competition is throwing off Ullmark's game. Goalie Bob is letting Jeremy fail a bit this season - he's not coddling his schedule right now. I think we're going back to last year's system of goalies. Ullmark carries the much heavier load - Sway gets the games that makes his stats look best. And that's why they didn't want to pay Jeremy $3.75 mil that was a difficult arbitration - because the franchise, especially goalie Bob, knows he's not worth $3.75 mil. He knows how those stats were created. He did it himself! He handpicked his schedule, Jeremy rarely plays in western Canada. There's a lot of financial games that go on behind the scenes - we don't hear about them cuz they don't involve the salary cap. I think bruins players get better perks, trainers, nutritionists. Who's paying for their homes in Massachusetts? 🤔 a lot of the original 6 & 14 (expansion) teams have loyalty contracts. Also why what happened with Kane and the Blackhawks was a bit of a surprise - he came into the league during the era of loyalty contracts and career franchise players. So that loyalty has to go both ways. It did not with the hawks

Sadly the idea of taking a discount for Canadian teams hasn't been a thing. With the taxes and exchange rate I think a lot of players feel they're already "taking a discount" playing up here. The lack of support from the league over this handicap is a big reason the Cup hasn't been home in over 3 decades.

They get paid in US Dollars as far as I know. So the conversion rates don't matter If A player gets 10 million USD they are getting 13.6 Million CAD. Remember when Pavel Bure was paid in Canadian dollars by the Canucks? and that was NOT the norm, They were screwing him over. I doubt that's changed since. Taxes yes though. The main thing is likely pressure. It’s similar to Toronto in a way, but we know not to find a scapegoat for every loss. Also, I think their management speaks to them. Think about it. Within the last 3-5 years, have there really been bad additions to the roster? Let’s have a listing. JVR is proving himself worthy as of right now when he looked like desperation signing. Hampus Lindholm met the standard of his contract. Taylor Hall proved himself against Washington. It took a year for Foligno, but he turned into some of the aggressiveness we lacked. Linus Ullmark won the Vezina. Tyler Bertuzzi was amazing come playoffs. Dmitry Orlov had a really hot start. Hathaway provided more of that Bruins aggression needed. Derek Forbort can occasionally be the best defenseman on the team. Halak proved how good of a backup he could be for Tuukka. Haula adapted to a center man role better than expected. Zacha is playing out of him mind and is making Devils fans cry. Even Ian Mitchell is proving he knows how to play. Genuinely the only bad arrival we had in Boston I can think of in recent years is Geekie, and that’s because I literally struggle to come up with any other name. And Geekie is still doing well.

I’m a native bruins fan. I think just about any team in the NHL can be “dominant” because the skill level is so outrageously high now. The skill level between the bruins and Panther’s wasn’t that different. Hockey is just as much about momentum, intimidation, and chemistry as it is skill level and draft picks. The B’s have a tough no nonsense, hard work ethic culture that every player must conform to… but yay still doesn’t stop you from choking in your biggest games.

Bruins have adopted the same thing the Red Wings adopted that made them so solid for over two decades. They build a core, they trade around the core, then when the core needs refreshing they look for the best value of ANY trade that they can get. They don't get hung up on a specific player - and the players commit to the ethos before they sign, even taking pay cuts to secure long term future for everyone, and taking risks with veterans. Their lines are tough and grindy even with their skill based players. The only problem with this technique is that you end up needing to drop on with some legend status players to win Stanley Cups, otherwise you end up as a team that plays well during the season format then crumbles at the play-offs.

How are you not gonna mention Thomas, Rask, Ullmark and Swayman? Hell, even Halak was borderline-incredible for us at times. Obviously team team defense plays a large part in that, but I don’t think the bruins have iced a “bad” goalie for more than a handful of games in the past 15 years. Anyways, the cup win was amazing. And the two cup losses were crushing. But being able to watch a team that’s been fiercely competitive contender for such a long stretch with players who stick around for most, if not all of their careers, while other fans have had to watch multiple rebuilds, years without a playoff appearance, and even relocation… it’s been a privilege that I hope every hockey fan gets to experience at some point. I hate a lot of teams and a lot of their fanbases drive me crazy, but they’re still fans of the best sport on earth ✌🏻

The Bruins undoubtedly have a brutal two way but defensively minded hockey system. And that goes back to even before Claude Julien and his infamous 1-4 system that is so conservative it was sometimes painful to watch when they played against bad teams. But honestly, it also goes to a culture I liken back to a Jackie Moon quote. “E.L.E.
