BTS held a 1-hour livestream to celebrate the group's 9th anniversary. And during this live, the guys explained exactly what they were going to do with the planning, not just written text, it was on video and they left it marked on the official channel. But here comes the media, and it left a lot of people worried and shocked, just catching a part of this live, to simulate the ultimate break, but they forgot the rest of the whole conversation. I hate these news media.

And it became a serious issue for Hybe as well because it caused their stocks to plummit while they, the group and the fandom did some serious damage control. It could've ended really, really badly financially for Hybe.

I truly believe that BTS will never officially disband. Don't get me wrong I think they will definitely take breaks, start families, pursue solo endeavors, etc. But they love each other too much to ever put an end to BTS completely. BTS aren't just a music group, they are a family who love each other and who celebrate each other's successes.

After this 7y contract they will disband. I don't know what you mean with officially but if they stop releasing music as BTS then they're disbanded. They're probably gonna go solo and collabs between members but BTS will disband. One Direction disbanded, i don't know what does "officially" really means, since disbandment is something you can see even if they don't say it. When they stop making music together, Even if the company doesn't say they disbanded, it's still "official" if they stop making Music together. I don't know if you understand what i mean.

@@KARIAP The members of BTS have always said they want to remain BTS for as long as possible. They even said when they are too old to dance they will perform sitting down. I don't know why you are so sure that they will disband when that's never been said by the members themselves or HYBE. A contract ending doesn't mean automatic disbandment. It just means they will either re-negotiate their contract or leave HYBE. They have no reason to disband. They can do everything they want to do while still being a member of BTS. BTS isn't One Direction, BTS is BTS. And I meant they will never stop making music or performing together. Other groups/bands have remained together for decades why not BTS?

Just this week Hobi and Taehyung were live streaming from JKs place, because JK called them over because he missed being with his brothers. JK was just doing laundry. Tae suddenly remembered about Hobi leaving soon for his military enlistment. Tae was seated and Hobi was standing behind him and Tae suddenly pouted and turned and embraced Hobi around the waist and said essentially “oh no! You’re leaving soon!” Because they don’t really like being apart.

I disagree with your assessment of the members ' faces while in the room with their President, mainly because I know they were nervous and also because of what they've revealed in the past. RM said he was mostly confused about his identity when they were called upon by their government or the UN to participate in diplomatic activities. I suspect some of the others felt similarly. They also have revealed how they're constantly nervous when participating in diplomatic activities and how focused they are on representing their entire culture and country well, even though they don't believe they have earned that status.

They can feel and think all those things, and still feel upset along with it. The human heart and mind is multidimensional like that. Because they've also expressed how they are proud to serve their country but at the same time, would rather not enlist. It is not a flaw nor detriment to their character to 'want to' and 'not want to' all at the same time. It's really the most basic of basic human traits.

You know what is funny? Literally less than 5min before watching this I saw an article saying "BTS broke hearts around the world in 2022 when they split up and now they are individualy pursuing fashion" ... it has been over HALF A YEAR and they STILL are reporting that BTS split up (I am still watching the premiere) Edit 1: Proof actually has 3 CDs. CD 1 is their title track CD 2 is each member chosing 2 songs CD 3 is their demo tracks that are ONLY available on the CD and you can't find them on any streaming service. (Unfortunatly a lot of their AMAZING songs like Sea are literally only available on their CDs and not on any streaming services) Edit 2: I havent seen this saying in a years, but we always used to say: The biggest BTS fans are BTS themselfs. Whenever a member does a solo thing, or simply an amazing viral thing in their group things the other members are always the first ones to hype them up. Even now the members learn their solo songs and dance moves and promote them on their solo accounts, and they keep mentioning them and praising them in solo interviews. Edit 3: Yes now you get it. BTS helped to build Bighit ent. from the ground up and then Bang PD made a separate Bighit Music label that is under HYBE, but still has their own freedom and is only responsible for Lee Hyun, BTS and TXT who are still the only artist under Bighit Music. Edit 4: That boat video is from 'In the SOOP' which is their filmed vacation during Covid. They usually traveled every summer in 'Bon voyage' but during covid they filmed 'in the Soop' which is then chilling in one place. Edit 5 (final) I mean.. to be honest BTS hasn't stopped their group activities.. or at least Bighit has so much of their content that during this 'break' we will still get constant group content with their solo content. Like just today they dropped behind the scenes of their Busan concert in October. In two weeks i am going to see that group concert in the cinema. In the latest Run BTS that dropped not long ago JK joked it was the last one but the members corrected him saying they still are scheduled to film at least one (before Jin left). Oh even a few days ago their group video for 2023 wishes dropped that was also filmed before Jin left. Plus we know that there are more documentaries coming because we know their previous tours were filmed but we didnt get content from that yet... So yeah while they currently aren't filming any new group content (because Jin is already gone) we still have a lot of content that they prepared to drop in advance. So while they are maybe resting from group activities we the fans arent hahaha (Oh ps. from what I know 1D didn't have a leader.. they didnt have any structure from what I remember, just members like Harry who were always more popular)

The internal system bighit created in hybe before refocusing on its main music and entertainment management specialty is a piece of work, bang pd made every step that was taken while going public, creating hybe and then making sure hybe is what becomes public while bighit remains private and completely independent within it is a major boss move, he not only succeeded, but he made sure every move was shared publicly with the fans, we literally could follow every step they took with excessive explanation and detail that literally nobody in ANY buisness does. It was brave because if they left room for corruption or mistakes, the media and rival companies would campaign to bring them down, or if risks for BTS members artistic freedom were exposed (like money hungry investors getting a say in anything basically) they would've gotten eaten alive by ARMY before they could breathe. That's why sharing almost too much tbh was a boss move, it added on to the integrity of the label, hybe doesn't manage the artists or the creative process, it only provides the resources and logistics needed for the activity, they made it so that no investors or share holders will have any control on the artistic process, that's why a lot of other labels agreed to join under Hybe, and that's why bighit still exists and bang pd, the largest shareholder in Hybe, is no longer the CEO, he kept only the shareholder position in Hybe and came back down to bighit as the owner of bighit, his private company that BTS are signed with and is their parent company basically. I think bang pd as a producer knows all too well what buisness interfering in music can do the art itself, and protecting his label and BTS his greatest creation from it was his biggest priority, and he succeeded since he managed to keep the guys trust in him when they could've gotten some much much bigger money if they announced not renewing their contracts especially from US labels..

14:25 no, that's just BTS in any interview situation. That clip was from an interview with Nightline done with former president Moon Jae In and BTS when they came to speak at the UN General assembly. He was praising BTS for their global influence, and also explaining that their appearance at the UN could help young people around the world become interested in becoming more involved with sustainable practices. The SK media may not want to give BTS the recognition they deserve, but the government understands what BTS means to their soft power, and they have no problem exploiting it. The BTS members are aware of this, and they are willing to go as far as to use that platform to speak directly to their fans about protecting the environment or standing against racial discrimination. They may have those somber looks because they are with the President and they tend to get shy when being praised, they had a laugh a couple of times during that interview. If you watch more interviews with them though, sometimes they seem like they just don't want to be there, But if you heard some of the b.s. interviewers say you would understand.

21:44 - Yes! They are unlike any other group or collective of artists. They have achieved an impossible near-perfect balance of Eastern collectivism and Western individualism. They know how and when to keep their egos in check because they understand that the success of the collective is also beneficial to the individual, and vice versa. They can and willingly make sacrifices for the group, but without stamping out their individualism. BTS, and their management, encourage & support each others growth as artists because they also understand that it is the contributions of each individual member that make up the unique dynamic and magic of the group.

The guys had a very busy schedule during this period. The arrived in NYC after a 14+ hr flight. Had to rehearse their UN speech and film their peformace that same night. Woke up very early the following morning to deliver their speech. Then had an interview with at the UN. They also attend an even with the South Korean First Lady to gift some korean art to the Met. And the following day they had this exclusive ABC interview that was clipped in the video - which had some pretty serious topics. Such as yoongi's lyrics on mental health in his solo work, the members worries and desire to see their fans again in concert, the misogyny in Korea, and how do you respond to people who are affraid to take the covid vaccine. It's actually a veryyyyy good & well researched interview that I would recommend for others to watch. And the interviewer herself is Korean American, and also was present at their speech.

it was so frustrating. I don't understand why people can't just listen to what bts actually say. I get that most are not used to trusting what artist say, but... in the same video where bts revealed their group music releases will be on a break for few years (not even group /activities/ because they stated that they are continuing to film their shows and we even got concert after that), in the same damn video they said "we'd be thankful if you take these words for what they are" but the way media was making it a sensation and twisting their words and assuming and calling it a disbandment was really hard to deal with in the moment when we were already dealing with new information and changes. fighting against those false articles, trying to defend the truth, trying to still stand by the truth, while still being shocked and sad and just worried about them because there were a lot of honest things said in that video the bs was so loud that jungkook went live next morning to confirm that there's no way they are disbanding and they never said that or anything close to it, they have plans and dreams and goals as a group still. he was so bewildered by the reaction of media over a video that wasn't even a press release or anything like that, but an annual dinner celebration of bts' birthday which is bts and army personal event but whatever i get that info spreads anyway, but it was just so bitter they took just what they wanted to hear namjoon was also angry and frustrated and posted a long letter on weverse. this is the translation (credits: @ miiniyoongs): "after the broadcast/show was released, i received the most calls since ive debuted seeing the screenshots and article titles that went sent i saw there were quite a lot of provocative and one sided (t/n: partial/wrongly taken) it’s not as if i didn’t know that this might happen or that i didn’t prepare for this, but i feel quite bitter. it’s not as if we hoped that they (t/n: media people, non armys) would leave opinions after fully watching the show where we cry and such.. Bangtan ‘Dinner’ is a casual form of content, and with the symbolism behind the date the show was released, June 13, this video was solely dedicated for ARMYs who were together with us for past 9 years. though of course there might have been reactions from the outsiders who overreact/exaggerate and say we think too highly of ourselves.. but what kind of singers/artists and fans wouldn’t have (after all those years) there’s something rare/special between ARMYs and Bangtan due to what we’ve endlessly shared for almost 10 years time. though this question about our emotions/sentiments (towards our fans) was asked countless amount of times during interviews, it’s something that is really difficult and hard to express in words. anyways, it was a confession that was wanting to be said for all the fans who have been with us until now without asking for anything in return. those who watched the video knows, but the title of the song, ‘Yet to Come’, is as implied, where we honestly wanted to say that now is not the end. screenshots of the scene where i was crying/sobbing started spreading, so i wondered whether or not i shared something i shouldn’t have been brave enough to share. it seems that having the courage of wanting to be honest always creates unnecessary misunderstandings and calls for anger. what i wanted to say was that we’re not trying to say that 1 is 2 (t/n: not trying to twist words or the truth) we’re saying 1 is 1, and we just wanted to share all our emotions that we experienced during the process, with our courage and tears. if it is ARMYs who know us, i have no doubt that you will understand what we say. what we said in the video is all we said. Jungkook and Taehyung might have mentioned on Vapp/Vlive well, but we’ve always freely expressed facts regarding BTS’ long term future. though there were times where we’ve conflicted/quarreled or sulked, but i believe that it was clumsy/uncertain trial and errors as 10-20 year olds growing into adults while starting our social life. though im scared that these words may cause become another big deal.. or if it will be as if i poured gas into the noise (t/n: pouring oil/fuel into a flame -> make situation worse), i will briefly give these words as the person who talked the most. thank you to everyone who watched the video and sent good cheers, love, and energy, whether it be from afar or close. we’ll work hard moving forward to show you good sides of us whether it be as a team or individually. thank you."

The sort of openness and honesty we get from BTS is rare. Most people, especially Americans, have come to expect a level of dishonesty and deceptiveness from celebrities/wealthy people. More so becaues of the long track record that groups have of lying to their fans to save face. It's easy for us to say because we have extremely high trust in BTS, but to outsiders that trust is seen as childish and naive. They think they know better and we're just a bunch of delusional little teen fangirls who couldn't possibly understand the real world enough to know we're being lied to. Many of these media persons are patiently waiting to say "We told you so" because they believe BTS are lying, as celebs do, and ARMY are going to be left in shock because we didn't see it coming. It's ridiculous but there is a patronizing, condescending air to how they talk about BTS being liars and ARMY being too gullible to see it. This sort of bond isn't common in the world of fans and celebrities of this global scale. It's annoying.

Hiatus literally means a break in activity.... in this case it's a break in group activity. The reason I think it applies and the comparison from boracity is apt is because they could have continued to do bts tours.... or a mini world tour before enlisting in the military but they CHOSE to do solo work because of the group burn out. They weren't forced to do solo activities because of the military, that's just how they themselves decided to schedule it. Also Jin had the option of postponing his service for a few more months but he decided he did not want to wait any longer.

Jin wanted to enter the military in summer. He was talked into doing the Busan concert: One last time as a group before the military service. He talked to Chris Martin about it and asked if he had an idea for a gift for Army/song. That was how "The Astronaut" was made (and that cute new mascot). I think Namjoon needed the break from responsibility. He was already not hearing the reasuring of his members. Why should they do tours when they had different plans? the vocalline needs to explore their own art. Hobi wanted to try new things, too. As do the rest of the rapline. Who are they as individuals? that was a question that especially Namjoon wanted answers to as his brain probably asked him what if they are only telling me they want that and than don't? But that was all structured around military service as it was clear between the 5 years between the youngest and the oldest that they would not all go with the same few months. I do hope that the last member will enter the military by end of 2023. They probably will. But it is still months till than. In fact Jin is already done with Basic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The difference between BTS and most of the groups in the music history is that they genuinely love each other as brothers and family. They have always respected each other and when there are issues they resolved them together In Korea and other Asian countries most people have washers but not dryers. S. Korea is a very small country and most houses and apartments are small so space is a consideration. Also they air dry due to energy and cost saving measures. It’s just a way of living as my mom will still hang laundry outside if she could and we’ve been in the US for 53 years. Armies don’t use the word hiatus because BTS said they are taking a break. However the western media went crazy reporting that are in a hiatus and compared them to 1D.

BTS is so unique because they do group projects and solo projects - but even more unlike other groups we also get solos and 'subunits' of music *within* BTS: songs by just the vocalists, songs by the rapline, songs with one vocal/one rapper; two vocals/one rapper; etc The solos & combos and musical styles that result are so full of variety just within the group that you just never really have to deal with the ear fatigue you get when listening to other groups or artists where you just hear the same voice(s) on every song with little change in music style/genre

Bighit company was a small company and then in 2021 it became Hybe (made some acquisitions like other small label pledis) and Bighit (the label not company) became an independent label (Bighit Music) under Hybe. This is why ARMY truly appreciates Bang PD, before he stepped down from CEO of Hybe (still chairman) he separated Bighit and made it private from Hybe so that they maintain independent control of creative and business decisions (he also stayed as a producer under Bighit Music). But when we talk about independent companies we mostly mean in America, in Korea Hybe is big despite having less power and influence than the main 3 entertainment companies. But in the US, despite their size, most expect them to have connections with us companies and in the industry (paying radio, Spotify, etc) in order to succeed but they don’t have that. It’s also not just ARMY calling them independent, they are categorized as such by the us industry for example billboard still has BTS under their independent artists year end chart (probably because they are a foreign label). Hybe being big now, doesn’t negate their history (which many people think was handed to them like other boy bands) or their current lack of connections/power in the us industry that works to keep them out. They still could go higher if they connected with a us company and paid to play but they don’t do that. So no they are not poor anymore but when it comes to the American industry, they are still outsiders.

27:43 Big Hit Entertainment went public in mid-2020, then later announced and then became HYBE in 2021 (end of 1st qtr?), and “Big Hit Entertainment” became “Big Hit Music” the label in which BTS fall under. HYBE agreed/voted amongst stakeholders that they should allow Big Hit Music be an entity/be operated independently (separate) from HYBE, even though it’s owned by HYBE. I remember liking this idea and was relieved that Bang PD and company did this as their first decision for HYBE.

idk if u know but just wanted to add that the repackaged albums do also have new songs. so putting industry stuff aside, the anthology album was simply a here have this as a gift while we go to the military and obviously because of their huge amount of music. personally i thought doing this anthology album was a good idea. a callback to their beginnings and a journey through their youth which is something they often talk about recently in their music. also i too disagree with ur analysis of their faces bc based on what they have said about those kinds of diplomatic activities they are just nervous and have a huge amount of pressure. after all they are one of the groups that have the most political debates going around them bc of military service.

There's a really good response in the comments about bts being an indie artist the thing is, bts never signed with a company to have control over their music when they became popular. THEY WILL BUILD ONE 🤧 This hybe image with all these companies is BTS money. The company became this huge conglomerate with army money and BTS blood. We are extremely proud to say that. If BTS leaves this company they can build one as big as hybe from scratch simply by being them. The army's trust is in bts and not in the company please continue to share your opinion on this issue of whether or not to be independent, we still haven't come to an understanding English is not my language, I'm still learning it so I'm having a little trouble understanding your words ☺️

Once they finish military service and start to get into and/or reveal romantic relationships, then I think their work as BTS will slow down, but they will never stop being BTS. They will continue to work more on their own projects but will come together every so often to give us great music and fun content. I mean by 2025 they will be between ages 27 to 32 so we want them to find love, we want BTS babies eventually, maybe Yoongi could write a film score, while Tae could start a fashion line. The possibilities for the future are endless for them but ARMY has to realise they can't keep up the frantic pace. I would rather have a BTS who is healthy, happy and giving us content when they can rather than no BTS at all.💜

HYBE stock dropped because of the misreporting. As ARMY since Fall 2018, I knew the guys were going to continue to release content as a group and as individuals until they all come back after their military service. They have always pre-recorded content and kept ARMY well fed. Even when we hoped the guys were taking well deserved breaks, they always produced content during their breaks. They never said they were not going to be giving us group content, they said they were going to focus on their individual projects. I will be ARMY and will support these men for as long as they want to continue.

14:41 So... I think there's a HUGE lack of context regarding this interview you're seeing. That interview was with ABC news with their former President Moon (who is pretty liberal by Korean standards) and was regarding the topics being discussed at their 3rd speech at the UN. The topics during that meeting were about climate change, women's equality, and the effects of COVID on young people...all serious topics... so of course they're not going to be grinning and joking around, because the mood of this interview was serious. Do they particularly enjoy being involved in politics? No, they're performers and writers, they'd rather be doing that... But they understand that they have a platform and are willing to use it to bring attention to issues they think are important. I think maybe you thought that interview had something to do with their military service, but it did not.

To be fair during FESTA 2022 dinner (where they announced their hiatus) RM said that because of their crazy schedule and pressure that he personally going through as a leader of a band and only fluent English speaker, it became extremely hard for him do his own solo work. So, yes, they always had an opportunities to do solo music still being part of the group, but this huge worldwide sucsess put restrictions to it (physically and mentally). They were exhausted. Especially rapline as they are doing most of the songwriting and producing. I hope they will slow down after their comeback in 2025. Funny story. I worked in hostel during The 2018 FIFA World Cup and there was one American guy, who was in shock by the fact we had no dryer and was confused what to do with his wet clothes he took out from washing machine. So we have to explain him that he suppose to hang his clothes on the strings in the hall (that was home-like hostel) an leave it till it dry naturally. During the next two hours we watched how every 20 minutes or so he would go to the clothes to touch it and check if it dry already. It was both hilarious and kinda adorable. Edit: I want to add something. Did their announcement of taking a break as band was completely unexpected? Not really. Did it break our hearts? Yes. Was it because of our fear that they wouldn't return as a group anymore? Oh, no, this definitely wasn't the reason all ARMY ended up ugly crying.

That independent title you say they no longer hold does not change the fact that they’re still to this day undermined in their own country’s industry (not even talking about America) You saw videos where it showed that korean media hides or undermines BTS achievements while praising achievements of acts from the big 3 (YG JYP and SM) because these 3 companies have the media and the industry in their pockets. YG even owns stocks in Naver (the google of Korea), the journalist that asked Suga the plagiarism question at the album press conference was later discovered to be working under YG. Army like to say there’s no longer a big 3 cause HYBE is bigger than all now and while that might be true in certain aspects like popularity and profits, the big 3 still continue to thrive because while HYBE might have more money now, more resources, they don’t have the power and connections. the big 3 do. Korean citizenz don’t actually know how big bts’s reach is because that type of information is being withheld through any means possible. And you know the story with their US distribution deal and lack of support. So you’re saying they’re no longer independent because they’re under this hugely successful korean entertainment company and record label. But that company and record label became big because of them. They didn’t sign with a already commercially successful record label, they created one. I think that makes all the difference. They signed with an independent one and the trajectory of their success brought their label the success it has today. Success that (I want to reiterate once again) unfortunately still cannot compete with the pull the big 3 have over the industry and the media. HYBE does not have the power to guide the public’s perception towards what they want to be popular and talked about and what shouldn’t. The big 3 do (and while i wouldn’t even want HYBE to have such type of power, when someone else has it and they’re using it against them to control the narrative, it does come at the detriment of their artists because their actual accomplishments get buried, and it is insanely unfair) So if the only reason why they’re not seen as independent anymore is because they did what everyone aspires to do, be succesfull, (in their case exceptionally so) that’s a very unfair take to have, especially when considering this particular case. Like to remain independent is to stay small. Yet artists have no control over that. I understand if someone is not deemed independent because they become popular when signing with a label that is already huge so it provides them visibility and everything they need in order to succeed because they have the budget to do so. But we both know that’s not BTS’s story. Like, if BTS decides tomorrow they want to make their own record label, army will go with them no questions asked. because that’s where our loyalty lies. So while you’re entitled to your own opinion, yes, even with all this success i consider BTS very much still independent artists.

Backstreet Boys never disbanded, they're still together. They just lost steam. Reason pretty much only 1D is mentioned is because 1D is the one BTS kept being compared to or the ones that were brought up by the media every time they talked about BTS hiatus. Also the repackaged anthology album might be "Steroids" but it had a lot of new content, including one whole disc of unreleased demos and three new songs. 13:13 for real! At some point politicians started using BTS's name for their gains, and I think they were cornered because they already have such a tricky relationship with Korean media and the Korean music industry, so it would have been easy to make even more enemies if they took a clear stance against involving the group in politics. They kept a fairly neutral position overall, and quietly planned for their military enlistment despite the whole nation debating whether they should be exempt, and both politicians and K-pop companies fearcely using this debate for their gains. In a recent interview between RM and Pharrell williams, RM said that he started wondering "what am I, a diplomat??" 😆 I have a feeling that this will be it, and they won't be involved like this after their military service... Or at least, I hope so.

the jonas brothers had to have a fight and break up for them to come back and be able to do both group and solo and i feel the only reason they were able to come back together was because they are actually related and they still were part of each others' lives that they had to sit down and have a conversation and find an agreement. i saw an interview nick jonas did where he said that only after they broke up and went solo and then more years passed and they got back together and then he again released a solo without breaking up that they realized that they could both at the same time by just respecting each other. but again, the reason it worked with them is probably because they are actual brothers and theyn had to resolve their issues and could not ignore each other like other band members do

When BTS had their Festa in June announcing their rest period I don't even think American news outlets were aware of mandatory military service. I mean honestly how many Americans who don't follow BTS or kpop know military service is mandatory in South Korea for all able bodied men? I sure didn't, I only learned about it after discovering BTS. So for them having the biggest group in the world at their peak say they were going to work on solo music and taking a break from group music didn't sound promising (even though we as fans knew military service was quickly approaching). I think they might've covered that news differently had BTS said we're taking a break to do solos while we all complete are mandatory military service and plan on coming back together in 2025.

I think you might be right on that one as I know the USA is often lacking when it comes to what goes on in other parts of the world. I'm British but I knew South Korea was one of the countries that had mandatory military service and I knew it was due to North Korea. Americans who have never been outside of the USA tend not to know much about the rest of the world. I think that has a lot to do with your schooling system, your lack of world news and the fact the USA is extremely large is size.

Yeah, we know how the numbers work in terms of streaming with the anthology album. Still appreciated the explanation, maybe some people will watch who are not aware. This album was EXPENSIVO, but its also the first one I bought with my own money (vs receiving one as a present), which is great cause the art book that comes with it with an overview of the entire discography is amazing, and I am enamored with how their discography connects in general. The joy of the Proof album btw, was actually cd 3 which is not on spotify (you can still find the songs anywhere on youtube) - the "hidden" physical-only songs, I am sure you've seen albums with songs like that. Cd 3 is original demos for songs and songs that almost made the cut. Likely inspired by the book "Midnight Library", exploring what would have happened if we made different choices, and had alternative lives (Everything Everywhere All At Once deals with the same parallel universe ideas.) I am not sure if anthology albums have that usually? Demos of songs? Is that a thing?

7:35 okay you officially know all the members by face!!! 11:27 NAH I completely agree with your take on digital sales. It is very much inflated, expecially when songs get repackaged in new albums. BTS been doing this since the HYYH series began and I always wondered why they keep adding old songs to new albums. It makes since. It's why I never really care about the "streams" statistics. They have enough accolades with just physical sales, awards, concert sales and more that these inflated Spotify numbers dont need to be added to their records. But hey, labels gotta do what they gotta do I guess so whatever. 21:08 I agree 100% I think the main reason BTS doesnt feel the need to go solo is becasue they are always allowed to do their own thing while a part of BTS anyway. Like even in official BTS albums, the members ALL have multiple solo songs. They get to do songs outside of BTS and everything. Sure, this hiatus makes it easier because they aren't spreading themselves too thin trying to do too many different things, but BigHit never tried to restrict them to BTS as a group and let them breathe in their own projects. I think that's why a bunch of other groups end up breaking up in the first place. I sent the email of all the KPOP groups, and in that email I explained the Hybe/Big Hit situation and background as well as which groups belonged to Hybe and which groups belonged to Big Hit (because yes its separate) Hybe actually went from a garage studio to the biggest in the world with the most successful groups in K-pop.

In kpop it is more of a regimented situation. It is hard for others to understand, in most management companies there are 30 or more groups they manage. So for those companies it is like moving chess pieces for those companies. Especially if you have a 7 yr contract with the company not specifically the group so if that company wants to reuse you because you as a person have lots of fans even though the group did not do well then you are tied to how the company wants to handle your contract. You are right about the demonizing of "hiatus" to One Direction is short sighted. I really miss Boys to Men myself. President Moon was the man in the seat and the one that gave them awards and the deligate passport. The problem is they never wanted to be political but they and their military service became very political. Loved Jimin's new solo song with Taeyang. Jungkook has a sleeve and it is beautiful.

But of course the media just heard hiatus, and took the clips of Joon crying and not understanding all the background and it was like a war was announced... ARMYs we trended "BTS it's okay to rest", showed all our support despite the general mental breakdown, and thank god the members saw our supportive reactions first BUT the chaos that ensued in the media was crazyyy!! And because they dare having that hope and achieved that it inspires and garners ppl, who themselves don't settle for the status quo and so this is what creates an army. Sorry for the lengthy passionate messages but if I could recommend you a first group song it would be Born Singer (their take on J Cole's Born sinner). 2013, J cole drops weeks after BTS debuts, Suga gets inspired and writes a verse on it, then each rapper and they put it on soundcloud. They talk about their mentality, their principles and promise to remain true to their art. I kind see that song as their Hippocratic oath lmao. They performed this song 3 times: 2015 when they started winning shows, 2017 when they started dominating globally, and 2022 they cleared the copyright, gave J Cole the credits and released the song officially. To sing this song these lyrics 10 years later, is such a statement to their character and how grounded they are.. and every milestones they keep that reality check, that song just sums up BTS for me. And they all said the same thing "1D said the same and blah blah blah", what bothers me is the patronizing way they talked to us like ???? in this case they have a contract until 2027 and then (on 2019) they had a tour sold out, they weren't going anywhere

I think what they mean when they say they're independent today is like only for the American market because they aren't signed to a recording label there like other kpop groups or artists. But yeah, at least when I say it I always say they *started* as an independent act from an indie label, not that they *are* right now.

But the difference between the American groups you mentioned and the 1D marketing group is that the latter were always talking about a comeback and giving estimates of how long it would take for them to come back. I have a washer/drier and all the time I've owned it I think I've only used the dryer part about 3 times. It' so much more energy efficient to line dry or use the clothes horses. I prefer line dry as the items just are so nice after drying outside they often don't even require ironing so less energy wastage again and less work with a hot iron.

Are good marketing and working the system considered unfair advantages? That's what steroids implies, right? They are just products we would buy anyway. We are always happy to support when their marketing team use strategies that crack into the system. They gave good value with the new anthology - photo books, poster, cards, a couple new songs, and an entire CD of guide tracks and stuff. It was an easy buy - unlike all the remixes from the English language trilogy that we just bought because we knew they were making a huge push to chart and lay a path to the Grammys. Those were crap, tho. Just the original vocal stems laid over scrambled music, for the most part. 😜😜😜 Anyway, I'm glad to hear that each repackaging go towards the song's sales as a whole. If that's the system, I'm glad they're working it!

marketing manipulation and abusive exploitation is steroids. Great marketing is fine. Massaging numbers with abuse of a system and the constant drive of bleed all profits from a song is where I feel its not right. I do not think they(BTS) don't provide value for what they do. Plus they had to work very hard to have that music that is good enough to compile and repackage. Steroids in my metaphorical and euphemistic sense isn't always bad but I would like to point it out so we have a better understanding.

Clothes dryer question: I grew up in the UK and came to Canada in the early 80s. At that time, no one I knew in the UK had a dryer. Even my aunt and uncle who had built a brand new house, still only had a washer. Maybe it was just cultural, and what was always done, but everybody hung out there laundry to try. When it was raining or too cold, the clothes would go on these rocks to dry on the inside of the house. all homes that I knew of had their washer in the kitchen. It was seen as just another kitchen appliance along with your stove and fridge. There really wasn’t a place for a dryer even if you wanted one. When we moved to Canada, everyone has a washer and dryer. Because we moved in the middle of winter, it was clear why a dryer was necessary. It was also the case that everybody had a basement and that’s where the washer and dryer would be situated. Fast forward to current day, and my family in the UK still prefers to hang up the clothes on the line outside. They also have to go through baskets of ironing before putting the clothes away, but the dryer is only used as a last resort. Hanging clothes outside is still thought of as a better option.

Eles so reforçam estereótipos por pura preguiça.

LOL the drier "rant" Here in Europe we do get how you do things, the most shocking thing to me when I spent 1 year over there was that the movies were accurate about life over there and well... I'll stop here. But I know for a fact too that they are the farthest thing from accuracy when portraying ANY European country xD (most of us still live in caves with no faucets - true story from a Canada apartment hunting visit xD more or less). And yes, my mom bought a drier 5 years ago ish... Not a fan. I've used them in diff situations, but still love the smell of leaving the clothes to dry in a clothesline or a rack ^^ Here in Germany, they use them 50/50 I guess? Not sure about it. Whereas what I'm 100% is their love for dishwashers. I only use that sh^t when working: either at the office, in the communal kitchen, where someone puts the plates there or when way back I worked 3 years for Starbucks or at my grandpa's restaurant. Since I live in Germany, there is always one included which I use as storage for lids and whatnot lol

However, yes, as of March 2021, BTS is now part of a huge music label. They were burnt out, from the anniversary dinner video. It was an emotional video to watch tbh, and a lot of fans, me included, needed a day or so to process it. But ultimately, like you said, there’s really no reason for them to break up at this point. And there’s no sign that they don’t mean their promise to reunite as a group. The speed at which kpop releases happen are unsustainable, and eventually the slow down was gonna happen. Most of us are used to one album every few years anyway with non kpop musicians. It’s nice to see RM showing his desire to make new music during Indigo interviews etc. In a way, BTS was becoming kind of a figurehead for some diplomacy stuff, and while they shouldered the new role admirably, I imagine it’s draining in a different way (and probably contribute to the burn out). They are bigger than they ever dreamed of becoming, and they admit to being stressed by that several times since 2017.

lazy journalism is due to the fact that western media does not know or understand the korean music industry. they write what they think and plus it is a form of click bait. there are haters both in the west and in korea who want bts to fail period. lack of understanding of the phenomenon of bts is 'strange' to the music industry. each member of bts has been producing individual songs for their albums since the beginning, therefore solo projects are just solo projects for them, no big deal. with jin away in the military the other members are doing their own thing until they go into the military.

well as proud as we can be about national culture awards and official status the boys got, it's not a secret that the gvmnt was playing tag and pull with them for years and was very shady and ready to exploit them to the fullest. like how few weeks before bts announced their decision on soon enlistment, there was a new law or smth under revision that would "allow" bts to take 120 days a year to spend away from the military base for concerts, award shows or other appearances, yet by the law they can't make money while enlisted thus the profit would have gone to the gvmnt lol. so they wanted them to serve and produce and write and perform and for free correct me if I'm wrong but that's how I got the whole situation back then

Growing up in Asian family, it was pounded into my head not to waste resources (and money)! Also, my mom always said sun-dry clothes feel better and supposedly kill any chemicals that might still be on the clothes from washing. Myth or not? I agree that the resale of an album is “steroids” to use your term. This comes from 2 places imo. First, it’s normal in K-pop to do repackages of albums. BTS has been doing that forever. They’ll repackage an album and add a few songs. That’s a common K-pop thing. Second, once we knew that no matter what we would not get American radio spins, the company gave army ways to beat the system. They started to release multiple versions of the MV, so it’s easier to stream, as well as multiple versions of the song. They would sell the song very cheap and then they’d sell a new version of the same album. The second MV drops a week or two after the first one to help with longevity. It’s very well calculated. However, I’m not mad about it. Give army the tools, we’ll do the rest.

I think BTS is forever an independent label story even with Hybe’s current size because BTS as a group started when Big Hit was so small and almost bankrupt. You can say their solo careers are not “independent” stories because of Hybe even though the rap line released mixtapes and the vocal line released solo songs before the break.

Raising my hand about the anthology albums bit: would it make more or less sense for the songs on the anthology album to waterfall those streams? what does 'certified diamond' mean for a song, aside from saying "this song was streamed 10 million times since its original release"? these are genuine questions, because im not too sure about how that all works and how it benefits an artist

It would make more sense that they do waterfall. It’s the practice I’m trying to make people aware of. Steroids as I call them are not all bad but a lot of people don’t know they are being used is more so my point. So I was noting it with an album that shows the implementation but not in a bad way. Certified Diamond means you sold 10 million cd sales not streams. How it benefits the artist. The waterfall of the numbers these songs generate compound and inflate when the repackaging of music happens. That’s the benefit. The benefit for Diamond is financial but more so a milestone. To sale that many cds is an amazing feat to do.
