I use to feel bad that I didn't "stan" any other group. Honestly, I enjoy ALOT of kpop and generally like a lot of other groups, I just do not stan them as I find myself only liking a few songs. I will watch other groups' music videos because they are amazing, but they are not the type of songs I would download or put in a playlist I just cannot get into their music as a whole, no one's discography has come close to BTS, and that is what I am here for, the music.

😂 The kobe and kwame meme... yeah armys are everywhere lmaoo. Boracity is very shady 😂. Armys are generally like this. We got strong opinions and are very political people. A lot of it comes from bts's music . People like me who werent political before tend to become more politically involved and outspoken after listening to bts. I had a roommate who had social anxiety, who within a year became more confident and sassy after listening to bts. 😂😂😂 Who thought music could have that much influence ehh??? And bts songs are pretty simple to listen to and fun sounding. But after going through the whole discography you will see the whole thing was about bts growing up and that story somehow results in the audience also growing up accidently. That's why armys are so adamant in saying bts aren't anything like kpop. Cus we gained something from it personally and being grouped with an industry that doesn't value growth (rm said this same thing in an interview) is insulting.

The problem with the kpop industry on the whole is that they have made it where the idols are disposable. Their careers are generally short-lived and brand new groups are debuted constantly to replace the groups who go into the military or who are falling out of favor. There is no long-term loyalty to a group. When one disbands, fans just move on to another. Fans see kpop groups as interchangeable. As Boracity pointed out, music isn't that important in that industry. So, when Bang PD put together 7 passionate boys who wanted to be real artists, it changed everything. And you can tell the difference. Everyone who has collaborated with them (including Taeyang of Big Bang who recently featured Jimin in a song) has talked about how passionate they are and how much they put into their performance. This is why BTS has not only survived a decade in the kpop industry, but also thrived and outgrown it. Kpop fans and the media expecting ARMY to do what other kpop fans do and stan other groups just don't understand that BTS is not interchangeable like other groups. I might listen to some other songs from other idols, but I won't put in the effort to support them the way I do with BTS. Our guys are just something on a whole other level.
@Kalakeiko Жыл бұрын
I respect your opinion, but I disagree. There are many extremely talented and unique Kpop groups out there with very diverse music and different genres, meaningful and relatable lyrics and a great stage presence and live performances as well and each of them trained very hard for many years to get where they are now, but I won't deny that BTS are great artists at all. For meaningfull lyrics and beautiful story lines for example there's TXT (Tomorrow x Together). They have not only really talented members and diverse music, but also meaningful lyrics and beautiful story lines in my opinion such as with songs like 0x1=Lovsesong, Loser = Lover, Run Away, Frost, Can't You See Me?, Opening Sequence, Farewell Neverland, Puma, We Lost the Summer, Nap of a Star, Our Summer, Eternally, and many more. There's also Ateez, Oneus, Seventeen, Stray Kids, WayV (Chinese subunit of NCT) and the B-Sides for Monsta X, NCT 127, NCT Dream, EXO and Got7 to name a few. In terms of vocalists there's EXO, Shinee, BTOB, Seventeen, NCT, Ateez and Oneus and for rap Monsta X, Stray Kids, Big Bang, Ateez and NCT. I wouldn't say that Kpop is only an industry and not about the music or artistry at all. Every single artist and group worked extremely hard for years to get where they are now and did it on their own.

11:30 that 'kpop jurnalist' was trolled and memed sooo hard by ARMY, it was hilarious to watch all the versions of: "don't just support and cheer for your favorite football team! You need to check out all of the other football teams and support them too, don't live in your own bubble of your favorite team without knowing what is out there" So I have been listening to kpop since like a year or two after I got access to internet; so I think from around 2010. But here is the thing: I only put a kpop playlist on and listened to it for like a month, and then I moved to listening rock for a month, pop for a month, ... basically i just cycled genres every month or so when I felt like it. I rarely even bothered to check out the Group name nevermind the song name (this was not only true for kpop but also for other genres haha so i can't really list who i was listening to since i only know the songs not the artists). So I usually listened to kpop for maybe a month or so a year while i was studying or cleaning or something and I remembered that kpop exists. But in 2016 after graduating and having to be an independent adult after the heaven that was high school, ... I was truly struggling. And I got recomended some random funny BTS videos, and then some music video theory videos, and when I went to check out their music I realized: "oh I know all of these songs, I love all of these songs, I had no idea they were all from the same artist". And i checked out their lyrics. The Agust D mixtape had just dropped at that time and wow, that was the first time in my life that the music i heard wasn't just catchy, but it was actually relatable. Their vocal line song from their Wings album called "Lost" perfectly described how i was feeling and gave me hope. Because of BTS I joined a fandom for the first time in my life and it was just so supportive and helpful. In 2017 because of them I met my best friend with who I still talk DAILY. I have always been the worst at talking with people in text form, I just can't do it.. but with her I still text daily. I have made so many friends (in person) because of them. Like I do still listen to kpop (but I do prefer the bands to the groups), but I NEVER (except BTS, TXT and bands) put some groups whole album on my playlist; I usually put like 2 or max 3 songs and even that is pushing it. And when i look back to my playlist of kpop songs from 2022 only 1 song .. yes ONE has lyrics/message that I like; others just sound good

4:33 - about how the singers hold the mic like rappers, LOL. Remember that BTS started as a hip-hop group, and three of the singers (Jimin, V, JK) are younger than the rappers and look up to them and are their biggest fans. They're so hyped whenever the rappers are practicing their songs, it's so cute. So I think that's part of why the singers copy the rappers in this aspect. J-hope once said that in the early days, the rappers would give a list of hip-hop songs to the singers to listen to.

3:20 "and when did we sign up?", exactly! I explored kpop for a couple of years prior to first listing to BTS, and though I heard some songs I liked I didn't find any artist or group I fell in love with. Much like Western music for the past 20 years, there just wasn't a lot out there I was connecting with. I follow and support BTS for many reasons, and many K-acts don't have what BTS has. It's ridiculous that anybody would think that just because you like BTS you automatically like all K-pop. Not all music is created equally, which region it comes from has no basis on which fans they draw in. Even if you look within the Kpop community there are fans of Boy groups who wouldn't be caught dead supporting a Girl groups and vice versa, but nobody is chewing off their heads for it.

18:48 nah that‘s not the case. Of course, we as fans will push them on many platforms, but their numbers matches EVERYWHERE. For example on Spotify they have much higher monthly listeners then any other kpop group despite having a not as big playlist reach as many other superstars with similar monthly followers. Same goes to the numbers of likes on every platform (have in mind that you can have just one like per account). Their fandom is estimated to be in the millions. Some sources estimate 60-90 mio fans worldwide (in 2019/2020 so even before Dynamite!) and Army is considered as the most powerful fandom from an artist. BTS were acknowledged by Guiness Worlds Records for the most followed group in 2021. They sell stadiums of 60-100k capacity everywhere in minutes! They broke livestream concert records with people who watched from 191 countries, that means in nearly every country! Have in mind that there is more outside of the West. If you have numbers from all over the world, then it is easier to reach such numbers that BTS has. Based on some statistics you can also find every profession in that fanbase. I think you underestimate Army a little 😉

As a music lover I watch other Kpop acts too like IU, TXT, Stray Kids, Black Pink, etc. However, I only watch their MV's one time and never come back. But when it comes to BTS, not only do I watch the MV, but also watch and research the lyrics as well and the explaination videos and then their live performances next. And if there's an interview or they have live stream on how they created the song, I also watch it. It doesn't even matter if it's 2 hours long. Next, if there are new reaction vids about BTS I would also click it without second thought. For me wtching BTS contents doesn't feel like I'm wasting any time at all, however if I watch other groups like Black Pink, it does feel like I'm wasting my time. So by that example, you can clearly tell if you enjoy something or not.

Oh God....I used to get into arguments with people from other fandoms so many times in the early years. And they always brought up that ARMYs are toxic and closed-minded because we don't listen to other groups. Later they called us mean and toxic because we voted for BTS in award shows and we didn't let other groups win. Because others worked hard aswell, they deserve it too, etc. My opinion didn't change. When their message can move me emotionally just like BTS' message did since their debut, then i will support other groups. In the Kpop ondustry everyone looks good and every act dances. There is nothing special about that, they just do what is basic requirement by the industry. For me, that's not enough. I'm a dancer, i do appriciate a good preformance on stage, and it's still not enough. No wonder the fans who are here for the music first, will prioritize artists over preformers, who most of the time have nothing, or very little to do woth the music they are associated with. And i might be mean and all to see it like this, but i can't feel bad when BTS and ARMY "don't let others win". Because the idols chose this after all. They signed a contract knowing they probably won't write music, but preforme it. If they wanted to write music, there are many labels in SK who are willling to give the artistic freedom. But you probably won't get mainstream automaticly, unlike at the Big3, because they will make a big fuss out of every group they can, even if it's not well deserved. As someone who wants to get into the music industry, you have the choice to sign to whichever label you want to (if you are talented enough of course). This is the first reason. Second of all, kpop fans can't expect me to give sympathy to the industry and the fans who openly looked down upon a group of passionate teenagers, just because they could. And i'm not just talking about the keyboard warriors here. Grown ass people, who somehow took joy from embarrasing and insulting kids. It's pathetic and distgusting in my eyes, and i don't think i will ever forget it. And those who did it? Please reflect on yourself. You won't look more powerful or coller in anyones eyes who have enough emotional intelligence to see how messed up this is. We ARMYs have such a bat realtionship with most of the kpop industry, and have so many bad memories about them, i don't think it can be fixed, honestly.

I've been an ARMY going on 7 years now, and before BTS, I had no idea what K-Pop was. After discovering BTS, I discovered K-Pop, but BTS is the only K-Pop group I stan, the only group who I repetitively spend my money on, vote for, listen to daily, watch their non-music content, etc. Like boracity said in this video, I do listen to a lot of K-Pop or Korean songs, but I don't stan or follow any other groups. I don't otherwise give my time or money to them beyond casual listening the same way I would any western song that I come across and add to my playlist (but I have seen other acts in concert). The only only K-Pop groups whose music I actively like and listen to is TXT (under the same label at BTS and also share producers/songwriters with BTS, so that makes total sense, lmao) and TWICE. NewJeans is brand new but they're musically killing it because their catalogue so far doesn't sound like construction noise (which a lot of K-Pop does, and thus I don't listen to those type of trash K-Pop songs). It's very true that K-Pop fans have this hive mindset where if you like a K-Pop group, you have to like every K-Pop group and support the entire industry. 7 years ago, I thought you had to do that if you liked a K-Pop group, but then I quickly learned that BTS are different to everyone else and go above and beyond "K-Pop."

My comment is about this line "It's very true that K-Pop fans have this hive mindset where if you like a K-Pop group, you have to like every K-Pop group and support the entire industry." so after watching kpop videos and blogs I found what they call "stan a company kpop" so they just stan groups of that company, but on the other hand all that people want Army stan their groups. I've seen stans between companies but are always Multi-Armys. Just to clarify I respect Multi-Armys, I just mentioned it because it seems to me that people of other fandoms not become Armys but some Armys become part of other fandoms, but maybe I can be wrong... I’m a baby Army and I don’t know much about it, so I just wondering how does it work… I'm also a casual listener of TXT, The Rose, G-idle and others but I don't call myself part of the that fandoms because I don't think is fair to do it, because when it comes to vote, buy albums or do stream I'm just do that for BTS and I think all groups deserves have loyal fans who can prioritize them. I'm not a person who has a lot of free time so I can only afford to stan one group and that group is BTS =)

@@livuniverse Yes, there are people called "company stans" who always flock after the idols of one particular company. The thing is, people seem to not understand the difference between a "stan" and a "fan." Watching content of a group, listening to their songs, or even going to their concert makes up a fan, but not always a stan. For example, I own TXT albums, I like most of their music, and I've been to their concert, but I don't stan them. I don't watch their non-music content, I don't keep up with what they're doing other than what I see on twitter, and I don't know much about them as people personally. If they're up against BTS, I'm picking BTS. If someone asked me to talk about TXT members, I wouldn't be able to say anything because I don't know. It's like how I'm a fan of Ariana Grande - I like her music and would love to see her in concert, but I don't stan her. I'm not buying her music or defending her online, because I don't care. Kpop "stans" tend to use the word "stan" when they're really just a fan. Like, do these "stans" have paid memberships for every group? Do they buy everything they release, actively stream their music, vote for them for everything, follow their every move, etc.??? No, they don't. Like I mentioned, I like TXT, TWICE, and NewJeans, but I don't stan them. I don't call myself a multi-stan. I'm an ARMY. I'm not a MOA, or a ONCE, or a Bunnie. I'm just an ARMY. Everyone is different. I feel like with BTS, BTS has the most only-armys who casually listen to other groups, whereas other groups have fans who claim to be stans.

@@pjmbyul What you mention is very interesting and I'm glad you took the time to comment =) In my case I am a native Spanish speaker and I know the word "fan" because we use it in Spanish too but stan is a word which I wasn't familiar with and I mistakenly thought that it meant the same thing, but I see that it refers to different things (I need to improve my english). Anyway this is my first time stanning someone, actually before BTS I didn't even listen to much music, sometimes once or twice a week or sometimes not at all. Usually I listened diferent artist and diferents genders so I have no experience being a fan either. P.D. thanks for answering.

This video could not be more accurate. So much was covered and explained in detail. It's all a mess with how the press try to pretend like BTS has anyone in 2nd place to them who's actually comparable in scale. The sad part is that most ARMY are beyond excited to explore kpop after discovering BTS. To stumble across such a musical gem, the next logical thought is "Oh this is kpop? I need to find more kpop groups so I can add all of their songs." Except it's just sifting through stuff that you don't care for until you get enough disappointment and come to the realization that BTS isn't an example of how the rest of kpop sounds, they're the outlier that happens to live under the same umbrella. Then once we make our peace with that, we just settle into enjoying BTS without fussing much more about it. We like what we like and we mind our business.

Well, I had no idea Army had been "expelled" from K-pop 🤣 I started listening to some kpop music years ago because I really like Korean hip-hop, and so I followed groups like 2NE1 and BigBang because they had GDragon and CL in it... But it was always an extension of me liking the hip-hop side of Korean music. I really think K-pop was made to bank on young students' need for escapism (the target ages used to be 8-16 yrs old), so much of it was pretty faces, catchy tunes, and becoming huge celebrities, not really about the music. Music was a medium to get started, but often the "idols" branched out into acting or hosting TV shows after their 3-5 yrs contract, becoming public figures. Things have been changing with the market, of course, but even now BTS is the only group that I can call myself a fan of. I like them as much as Linkin Park, Logic, Eminem, D'esparsray, Bewhy and others that make completely different music. I liked their work before I liked them as people, and I have no doubt that I will keep listening to their music regardless of whether they're active or not, simply because it means something to me, separately from them. You can't really have this kind of result with the way K-pop is built, because K-pop companies usually want many fans, not long term fans.. it can't be compared, and it makes total sense that BTS fans don't vibe with K-pop acts 🤷♀️

Hey Jurnalist! When you’re ready to listen to BTS group songs, a really underrated one that I’d really recommend is DIS-EASE. It was produced by J-Hope and it’s very a very funky-hiphop-ey track that I think you’d really enjoy other than their really hiphop songs 😊 the song was released in the BE album which they released during the pandemic hence the title but it is also a play on words of having a hard time which is why the EASE is connected by the prefix DIS 😁 It’s really fun watching it live!

Commenting on the journalist that was tweeting. K-pop fans and journalists like her, are really into the notion that everything should be on the same level. In other words, if you listen to a group that is in kpop you should listen to all the groups. You prefer one over the other. I’m ARMY and this is what I notice a lot in the comment sections with BTS songs and other group songs. If you talk about one member, you will get a ton of comments about not just appreciating one because they all did great, or the “Is no one gonna talk about____?”. This is where Korean ARMY and other countries ARMY clash the most. That’s the type of thinking from being in the k-pop fan, but that’s not how, (speaking about Americans) do things. We don’t have to complement every person because we complemented one. If something stood out or something you saw you liked the most and then you comment. They take it as your saying you don’t like the other members. I see that a lot! I’m thinking it might be coming from Korean ARMY and maybe some others that are following along because they think it’s true. They way they have ran the k-pop industry doesn’t work in other countries because that’s not how other countries are. BTS’s is based off of music, they hit all genres, they have amazing lyrics, music videos are awesome, talent, they have by the millions, and they are great people. BTS is the only group I listen to live, I might listen to a couple other groups, but that’s just within these last couple months. But I have been disappointed so I’m not watching them. I really don’t like how the K-pop industry is run, what they do to these men and women and how they just let the fans decide their fate, and how they treat like property and not people. It’s very disrespectful, sad, down grading, relentless, physically and mentally unstable.

And it looks like they are being well recieved in korea too because of that differece/uniqueness. While on youtube, BTS posts kept bombarding my home page feed last year. I became ARMY from watching their variety show Run BTS and their 'Behind the Scenes' content. Their journey captured me first, then I delved into their music. Their content captured me because it humanised who they were as individuals and as artists. My regret was not knowing them from the beginning. I am an R & B fan, and BTS R&B and Hiphop from their earlier days are my personal favourites. However, their other genres are also great because they have amazing messages and choreography, and catchy songs. Their hardships capture ARMY, because it shows 'real life' moments that we can identify with and empathise with. (Well that's how I feel at least). Their versatility in music opened my eyes to other genres as well. I am an old school gal, listening to Whitney, Luther, George Benson, Stevie Wonder, Temptations, MJ, Prince etc. BTS caught my interest and heart because of their story first, and then their music. They brought out the maternal instinct in me, which I believe all ARMY have a sense of, or need to protect BTS. Through BTS I delved into KDrama and other KPop artists, however, BTS is the only group of artists that I follow on a daily. My playlists are full of their music, but I also enjoy other Korean artists R&B music, which are added to my playlists. THEN reaction videos of BTS grabbed me, mainly because I love to see or hear others viewpoint of the group and solo releases. As shown in this video, I love my specific genre preference across the board. However, I am drawn to BTS because I respect their professionalism, work ethic, personalities, journey, and their artistry. I love their live performances, I adore their variety shows, and I appreciate their music because you can guarantee they have a song that will suit any emotion you're feeling on a daily. I believe Kpop in general is hmmmm visually captivating, however, their music by many groups sound the same, or the artists look the same (styling that is). Nothing truly differentiates them from others. However, there are definitely other groups/members that I listen to, but it's mainly their solo work that I listen to opposed to group music. (Again genre preference) I love how the seven members of BTS have individual 'sound'. Noone sings like Jimin, no one has the soul of V, no one has the range of JK, and Jin has a ballad voice to die for. (actually all four vocalists have crazy vocal range), and other KPOP rappers (to me) do not have the stance like RM, Suga and J Hope. The three just hit different, from lyrics, to collabs, etc and trust me I am not a rap fan, but with them I will listen to because their lyrics are my first go to. I've gone on a bit lol, I won't apologise though, because thanks to BTS; smiles came a little easier, or laughter was injected into my daily life watching them grow. Two elements, that we humans, forget to do sometimes. Lastly, thank you for your honest take on BTS as an artist yourself; more so on the music industry that I have very little knowledge about. I watch you mainly from your professional knowledge and experience feedback. These videos you react to may show a little bias lol, but overall, they are supported by some facts and truth (such as it is). Like you said, we can't rely on one form of information, there is some research required. But jeez, even I am overwhelmed at the work ARMY do. I am merely an ARMY that love BTS and their music. Thanks for your work though. Arohanui from New Zealand.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that music writing by idols wasn't a thing in Kpop before BTS. It was uncommon, but it did happen. Amongst the many reasons for why JYJ ended up leaving SM was that they never got to use their own music, and worse, whatever they wrote belonged to SM as per their contract. The two that remained behind were less interested in making their own music (at the time at least). I'd say the difference with BTS is the level of their involvment. That's way higher than anything seen before in Kpop (unless you count Seo Taiji as Kpop lol)

They make some valid points, but I disagree. As for groups and idols that write and produce their own music, there's Stray Kids for example who is entirely self produced in terms of music, lyrics and concepts as well as having chosen the members, name and logo with the songs being written by their 3Racha subunit that consists of Bangchan, Changbin and Han. Monsta X has Jooheon, I.M and Hyungwon write lyrics and produce songs and choosing concepts and themes, Soyeon from (G)I-DLE also writes and produces their music and chooses their concepts as well, the same goes for Seventeen where Woozi, S.Coups, Hoshi, Vernon, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Bumzu and several others write and produce their music. Then there's several other Kpop artists that write and produce their own lines and solo music and concepts as well, such as EXO. TXT also has very meaningful lyrics and stories that a lot of people can relate and connect to, including the members and they too write lyrics and verses and are involved in the production. I wouldn't say that Kpop is only an industry and not about the music or artistry at all. Every single artist and group worked extremely hard for years to get where they are now and did it on their own.

8:03 😂😂 Army is everywhere and has a great dark humor at least on twitter. I listen to a LOT of music, many genres like hip hop, R‘n‘B, rock, metal, pop. It can also be a jazzy or classic song, disco, funk, soul, whatsoever when it‘s a good song. What really annoys me is how many kpop fans think about kpop and artists in general. When I became Army I was asked several times to listen to this and that kpop group and people got annoyed when I gave some a listen but it wasn’t for me. In no other genre (or industry or whatever you want to call it) I felt so much pressure. Kpop is seen as a group project and many fans seem to love repeating concepts and sounds. I had the feeling that many kpop fans like to switch groups like socks and that it’s all about the asthetics and cuteness but also the competition. For me artistry, personality, lyricism and message weight so much more to stan a group or else I‘m just a casual listener. There are also other great groups. I like for example some songs from Mamamoo (great singers) or Dreamcather (rock-ish but very experimental), but I only follow BTS closely for several reasons. Many kpop fans show the same traits that the kpop industry demonstrates like supporting short timespans of groups, interchangeability of groups/concepts/sounds, no lyrical depth, musical or conceptional repetition, stagnation of pesonal or artistic development or no artistry at all. Many kpop fans listen to a group and then start liking every other group from the same company, because they like the sound and because many groups from the same company have many similarities. But for me the groups consist of people or of artists and not of puppets with no soul who are interchangeable. Of course, not every kpop fan is like this, but it‘s definitely a majority. On top of that, a huge portion of Army is beyond the teenage years and have jobs or family, so there is no time to explore the whole kpop world and stan every group on earth. I’m 33 and have a demanding job in the field risk management and many hobbies. So my time is precious and BTS has everything what I need. There was a poll on twitter how many of Army were kpop fans and 80% said they listen only to BTS (and other music), but not kpop in general (but a portion gave other groups a listen, it just wasn‘t for them as in my case).

There is an interchangeability in kpop where the idols have to fit themselves to a concept they don’t have a hand in choosing but many fans don’t mind. If you’re focused on visuals and just want a catchy song that’s fine but I want lyrics that mean something to me. Oh but I do like songs by mamamoo & dreamcatcher for the same reasons you said.

I definitely disagree. There are many extremely talented and unique Kpop groups out there with very diverse music and different genres, meaningful and relatable lyrics and a great stage presence and live performances as well and each of them trained very hard for many years to get where they are now, but I won't deny that BTS are great artists at all. A lot of groups have creative freedom as well and write and produce their own music. I tried other K-pop groups and I may like one or two songs but I couldn’t get into them as a group or solo. However this goes the same for western artists as well. I stopped listening to music in the 90’s because the sound didn’t grab me. Rap became too crude and explicit for me just say to myself “I give up”. Through BTS I enjoy their rap. To me BTS is the total package. That article you mentioned in this video regarding Stans I agree with you that it’s a total bs. Korean media has been so unfair to BTS and they continue to do so, trying to undermine BTS success and talent. Why should armies support other K-pop stand if we don’t like their music! Why should we carry the burden of kpop? Hell no! Most importantly, other than Elvis and Queen, BTS has been the group that invoke so many different emotions, thoughts, insights and pure enjoyment and amazement! I love their personalities!

I'm loving watching your videos. I do think you kind of missed her point on the videos and audio streams matching up for BTS. It's not that ARMY go to listen on Spotify to "make the views and audio numbers match up" - it's that people love the actual music BTS makes so they listen with or without visuals. I stream BTS music all the time - for the sound. This is not true of most kpop (New Jeans being the exception for me and the only other "kpop group" who has a song or two in my playlists). BTS's music is great to listen to without the visuals as well so they are equally supported on both platforms vs. Kpop which is mostly supported for the visual elements not the auditory.

@@Kalakeiko I like a broad spectrum across pop, classic rock, punk, country, classical. I've seen everyone from Bowie to The Who to Green Day to Gaga to Taylor Swift to Britney Spears U2 to Willie Nelson (I could go on). in concert (as well as BTS and Suga/Agust D last night). When I fell down the BTS rabbit hole, I tried other kpop groups (both listened and watched) because I wanted to be sure that I was not discounting them out of hand as I had prior to finding BTS. An individual song here or there is fine and there are a couple I like quite a bit but in general the music of the other kpop groups has not really been my cup of tea and that's fine. Let me give both HYBE and Ador their flowers for a second. NewJeans is the only group from Ador, which is technically a new label under HYBE, but all their music labels are independent. Now I don't know what that means in terms of profits and investments, but I know the labels make their own decisions, and HYBE is there for resources. I would assume that HYBE would make sure nothing shady is happening and would support artist creativity and innovation based on their ethics, but I haven't read anything about it. Now what is interesting with the NewJeans company is that the CEO is a woman, which might be a first in kpop? That was the project, create a label fully managed by a woman to have a girl group and see where it goes. As of now, they are BLOWING UP, all of their songs are very catchy and fresh, admittedly simple in terms of lyrics, but with great melodies and harmonies. You can see that the company is letting them write, they aren't overly sexualized in terms of clothes or choreography. Another note about HYBE since I am here. HYBE is a corporation that is at this moment bigger than the big 3 (it could be big 4, but hybe is ahead lol). They lack the connections (and have too much morals) to do a lot in terms of what the big 3 are doing, but they got the cash, and they are expanding - not just in terms of music, but in terms of IT. They are creating social media platforms (such as weverse), making mobile games, cartoons, bought ITHACA holdings (Scooter Braun's management company right) etc. All of it grew or saw success thanks to bts to be honest, and the risk still is that if bts just disappears, they would arguably immediately fall off and be below the big three. Maybe. They diversified, so not sure, but bts is bread and butter. (And BTS opens doors, I mean, the president's entourage said that mentioning bts got them an event at the MOMA they could not negotiate. They get everything, Disney allows copyright, UN allows a performance at their headquarters, Korea allows national monuments to be used for videos.) Back to my point, HYBE is actually aiming higher, it wants to compete with the IT giants in Korea, who are HEAVILY invested in Korean entertainment overall. You see, Google and other international giants do not have access to Korea due to protectionist laws, so a big old oligarchy took place instead, and that's a mess that would take longer to explore. But it explains to some degree your usual confusion on why the big 3 have a sway on the media, monopolies everywhere, man... Please benefit from all of this knowledge I gathered when I intended to invest into HYBE as it went public LOL✋(That is not to say that Korean entertainment is heavily censored, because the stuff coming out can be very critical of the government and capitalism. But there is a lot to explore in terms of who owns what, just like when you explained to us how the US radio works.)

Not sure if Thai? Probably. Don't know much about them. Maybe worth noting for some... future endeavors, she's the sister of Hueningkai... or Kai. From TXT, the other only group under Big Hit Music label. And BTS babies (literally, they adore each other too much, or just the right amount of much -- and no, you usually see the opposite from many other groups). PS. There are even more "exotic" ones. A couple black girls around too. Or Brazilian. They come from open castings.

@Jurnalist @Jurnalist yes if we speak about music in general. my playlist range is insane, I have so many great artists I love from different genres and nationalities, all of them present music in their own way I was just speaking about kpop scene, that does have similar traits in presentation: visual part is important, all kpop acts rely on it to some extent, often a lot, often it becomes the centre of attention. and I do give a lot of kpop artists their fair chance, i keep up with new releases. but I don't see how just visuals can compete for my interest with those who also have real music next to looks and outfits by "settle for less" I just ment mathematically, one act has X, another has X+Y. both require the same amount of my time and devotion if I choose to follow and support them. why choose only X then if X (visuals) in general is kinda irrelevant since everyone has it maybe if every single one of them was making great music, we'd be making choice of who to follow closely based on the looks lol. whatever is more rare to come around will be more valuable. though that being said I still think music will overpower everything and in such scenario the choice would just come down to taste peculiarities whatever I'm ranting haha

@@erume5776 I respect your opinion, but I disagree. @KalaKeiko hm, I don't particularly remember details about that video since it was 3 months ago I won't argue that there are reasons some people are connectingwoth other kpop groups. I have my personal experience though (and I explored a lot of kpop groups, excluding those you listed) and personally I can't connect with kpop's concept driven structure. the difference for me is that a lot of times groups take serious topics as a concept bc it's trendy or a right thing to do to look respectable. while the message is still there, I can't get behind it if it's thrown away once the era is over. a lot of kpop groups are hard working, hell they all are, the system is like that, but having an artistic identity is an exception. as in choosing comeback topic because it was your experience as a human, as a part of society, as a musician, speaking for yourself through your lyrics. nothing shines more in bts' music that authenticity, the development of their thoughts, values, fears and dreams is reflected consistently since 2013 up to 2023 in each album there were groups like that in kpop, few that bts look up to and were inspired by. there are groups like that in kpop now, txt, seventeen, some others. but to say that these kind of groups that write their own music and stories overwhelme the rest of the scene would not be correct

@@erume5776 Yeah, unfortunately there are many companies that don't care about their artists and groups or their fans as long as they make money and continue to attract people and I hate that and I agree that it's a shame that when they do focus on mesningful themes they sometimes end up as a trend or a era concept, even if the artists and fans genuinely connect with the topic and themes. But I do think it has gotten better and more and more artist and groups are given creative freedom to properly express themselves and I really hope that continues.
