There's at least 3 alternate endings including this Clooney one. There's the Keaton and supergirl one and Cavill supes, supergirl and Keaton one. Definitely will be in the ultimate edition, they definitely need to make their money back because the box office isn't going to come anywhere even close to the budget and marketing.

Sexual assault is like the cardinal sin in humanity. If respected actors (like Bill Cosby & Kevin Spacey) or powerful industry players (like Harvey Weinstein) could not survive it, there's no chance Ezra Miller would.

Mix Ezra's struggles with a readiness by fans to move on from WB's craptastic handling of the Snyderverse overall and you have the reason that this movie flopped. Add that to the option to see it in a couple months on a streaming platform and you have the final nail in the coffin. It's nothing to do with what was actually in the movie because people didn't go out to see it in theaters. It's not Michael Keaton's fault. In fact, my guess is that most of the people that went to the theaters to see this movie went for his portrayal of Batman alone. When we finally have a James Gunn DC movie that WB hasn't had its hands on then you'll see DC rebound at the box office.

Many people that have certain issues with separating the artist from the art itself do so because their opinion is entangled with their ego and that informs what they can overall accept. I can enjoy movies with actors whom I think are d-bags same with watching sports or a lot of bands whose music I dig but the front man is a total asshat. My brother can't listen to most comedians because if he disagrees with them on a subject or two the the whole thing isn't funny he also can't watch football or baseball anymore or go to concerts because his opinion/ego can't handle dissent of his world view which I think is sad because he's choosing to be a brittle spirit in a much smaller world. I hope more people give this movie a chance despite Ezra because a lot of very good and talented people worked very hard and made something that's not perfect but it's a lot of fun with a lot of heart in it. Life is more fun with less of an ego.

Wow that's a really good idea . I thought he's back in old DCEU and bc of the things he did in past George Clooney now DCEU's Batman replacing Ben Affleck but really what if Barry Allen is actually stuck in George Clooney's universe 🤯that also makes total sense and would solve both the problems keeping Ezra miller out of new DCU and also keeping the old DCEU intact . @davidhumphrey6239
@davidhumphrey6239 Жыл бұрын
1000% agree. As much as I don't want to disparage Colton and his opinions, he came off as very "fanboyish" for the DCEU, and not very impartial in terms of presenting a movie review. The little criticism that he does offer is immediately offset with his fondness for the movie so I personally did not value his opinion at all. And he's crazy to think that Clooney would continue on as Batman, outside of being a fun cameo at the end of a movie. Kind of like the "Henry Cavill" Superman showing up at the end of Shazam. And people are still not sure if Shazam is part of the DCEU or not. As far as telling a multiversal storyline, there is no way this beats Across the Spiderverse explanation of the multiverse. I'm actually SMH with how Michael Keaton Batman explained the multiverse. It would have been just easier to say that the Flash was in another universe than to explain that he changed both the past and the future.

I think the reason they put George Clooney's Batman in the movie is that they are driving home the fact that the Flash created all the offshoot universes that contain all the different Batmen and Supermen through the events of the movie. Every time he went back, another timeline was created with different causality. The Flash and the events in this movie is why the Clooney Batman is different than Keaton, and Kilmer even though we are told they are the same Batman. Flash did it all behind the scenes of those movies in this one..

DC is a mess… But we all know this bombed because of they “Elephant in the room”. The fact that DC didn’t seriously consider that what Ezra was doing off-screen would heavily impact fans supporting the film is mind boggling. That compounded with how the studio handled Ezra and Amber’s off-screen trials with NO real consequences for their films (respectively). While Jonathan Majors lost both his PR Agency and manager after his charges… seems like a hollyweird double standard???
@JayGC

I don’t believe that’s the reason this bombed at all. I think it’s a factor for sure. But there’s also ‘superhero fatigue’ as people say. There’s the fact people are just tired of DC. The Flash hasn’t amassed a group of fans in the couple of things he’s been in. There’s the fact none of this really means anything because of the Gunnverse around the corner. People taking their kids to see a movie probably have no idea who Ezra Miller is. I can tell you now if an actor I really like had been committing crimes I’d still go out and see the new film they’re in. Short of any really horrific crimes obviously.

The post credit, Barry tells Arthur that he's been through multiple universes/timelines and that there were different "Batmen" in everyone, but Aquaman was always the same (yet he didn't even exist in the first alternate timeline). To me, that implies that Barry has traveled more timelines post-court scene and now he is in one where the justice league has yet to form. And now he's the one trying to get the band together like Bruce did in the original one. Thus, the Clooney reveal could have been a one-off, and there is going to be a completely different, unrevealed Bruce Wayne in this new timeline.

I remember that reset/reboots through time travel in the comics, if used correctly, still kept the story going and kept me engaged. More often than not however, it's used as a device for when writers write themselves into a wall. This is what I'm seeing used by Studios now with the "multiverse". It can be done correctly and with care but more often than not, it's abused as a way to just create threads that don't connect or leave fans frustrated. I do believe the Clooney cameo, like what others have said, could've been used to help exit Miller's Flash from the new setup that Gunn's DCEU.

A guy not tiktok that works in cinema explained why CGI is so poor. He said it takes those people that specialize in CGI time to perfect what the request is but only given a short period of time to complete the project. Movies where CGI was perfect like Avatar took like 10 years to make. They don’t care about perfecting movies anymore, they only care about how fast they can finish a movie that will make a lot of money in the box office. That’s the problem. Money is now way more important than perfecting the art of cinema.

The focus on nostalgic cameos reminded me of Space Jam 2, which wanted to showcase how many popular properties that Warner Bros. had access to. During the basketball game, the audience was made up of various characters you would never think you'd see standing next to each other, like King Kong, Danny DeVito's Penguin, Pennywise from Stephen King's It, and the Jetsons. It was absurd and you can tell it was designed to make millenials in movie theaters point and shout at the screen "Hey, that's so and so!" I watched the Flash with my wife and son and pointed at the screen when Keaton showed up, George Reeves, Adam West, Christopher Reeve, and Nick Cage appeared, and when George Clooney walked up at the end. I immediately told my son the background information on all these cameos because he had no idea who they were or what they were referencing.

When Barry put the can of tomatoes on the top shelf, the can was black. Originally the can was green, so now he is in an alternate timeline from the one with Ben Affleck as Batman. When young Barry dies here, old Barry can stay because his mother is alive. This removes the flash entirely from the Affleck Batman universe we still have. That clears up having to recast Ezra, he would not exist in the Snyder universe. The post credit with Aqua Man pushes this further showing our Barry Allen is in a different time line.

VFX were bothering me way more outside of the scenes you described. And with this heavy reliance on vfx in almost every movie nowadays, you can’t just simply overlook these things. Look at how wobbly the flash’s suit looks in almost every shot in the movie, especially the opening act, where it would matter most to really set the stage and convince the viewer of top quality. The scene where both flashes and Kara slide into frame looks just so bad. Everybody always picks on the CW and their bad vfx because of the low budget, but really this was just like that. Always try to remember how awesome the first iron man looked. That was 15 years ago. Feels like it’s only getting worse and I don’t blame the vfx teams. They are overworked as we know (and as we all are by the way). Studios must really find their way back to quality over quantity.

I THINK that Clooney's Batman was a sign that Ezra's stuck in that timeline, and the DCU gets a new Flash when appropriate. However, I would not be upset if Clooney got to play a serious older Batman, as Nghtwing would then be near Superman's age, and likely to be the official "Batman" of the DCU. We could also see the Dick/Damien interactions as well, as there should be some resentment between Damien and the first Robin.

I definitely didn’t feel ghoulish. I loved the homage to the previous actors and I absolutely loved the Nicholas Cage Superman inclusion. I think we all missed out on seeing him as Superman but this really shows us that in another universe he was Superman. It has this 4th dimensional quality to it that I really think was wonderful. Otherwise I think people are being way too critical of the effects on this. I’ve seen much worse movies with much better effects. I actually didn’t care at all about the lesser than effects in the movie and usually I care the most. The movie was good, it held my attention, was relatable, told a compelling story, and resolved it. I think it was a complex story to tell and I definitely found myself wondering how he gets out of this clustercuss of a situation. Its very annoying when you out stupid characters into that type of impossible situation, but when you put an intelligent one in it and they manage to find a solution, then it’s a rewarding experience. And yes, Michael Keaton is the best Batman. This movie made me wish he never stopped playing Batman.

I think my plot hole of note is that the mom gets stabbed but we don't know who stabbed her. Maybe she somehow stabbed herself. But that seems like a leap. In regards to the father looking up: I think it would've been better for Barry find NEW evidence that exonerates his father. For example, you could have it where the father used a credit card at the store and they check the time. OR you could have it where the father was originally just applying for appeal with NO new evidence and then Barry finds out that the tomatoes were ALWAYS on the top shelf and after going to the past, he finds out that there was also a camera there.

This was a Major Plot Point that was just completely dismissed. No one even tried to address, investigate, or even think for a minute why not go back and find the real killer (s) ? Why included General Zod. That whole story was completely unnecessary. Especially since Barry in the end still didn't learn his lesson either way.

Considering that the Elementals movie tanked as well, I think one of the main reasons the numbers were down was because people didn't want to go to the movies in general this weekend. Honestly, my personal experience of going out to see films since the pandemic is a far cry to what it had been before COVID. I saw Flash, Spiderverse, and will go see Indiana Jones, but going to see these films just doesn't feel important like it used to, especially when I know that they will be streaming in a couple of months. It's not fun to go anymore - the movies are expensive, the theaters aren't being kept up well, employees don't sell tickets anymore- there's either a machine that does it, you have to stand in the popcorn line, or you buy tickets online with a "premium" $2 to $5 mark-up. The employees are rude, the snacks are ridiculously overpriced, the management doesn't care, and audience looks at their cell phones while the movie is going. There are certainly special events like Spider-Man: No Way Home, but unless something is a huge event it's not worth going. With The Flash, you add Ezra Miller's problems to this, plus it was "another superhero film" and people stayed away.

Also, you can stream (purchase) the movie for the price of two adult tickets on KZbin, which is about 3 - 4 weeks it is released in the movie theater, so if the movie isn't that important you can just wait to watch it at home.

I half agree. It depends on the movie. I live in Boston which is a half big city, pretty much every MCU movie is still packed some still sell out for the whole weekend. Across the Spider-Verse just did it. And that’s Sony. At 1st I was against the idea of payin 20 bucks for a movie when you’ll be able to buy it for the same price within about a month. its still something to experience a movie in a full theater

I think that George Clooney as Bruce Wayne in the end was a big "FU" to Ezra Miller and basically telling the fans, we're done. (as Clooney has often said, he was done with the role). And the post end with Aquaman, I think, was trying to establish that Jason Momoa's version is the same in ALL the multiverse (I believe Ezra also mentioned that Wonder Woman was the same, leaving the door open for those actors to be part of the new DC Universe Films). All that being said, I'm beefed that they dissed the "Arrowverse" by not including ANY of them in the multiverse at the end of the film - especially Grant Gustin, who I believe was the best actor to portray the Flash, and beefed that they dissed Henry Cavil by not having him in the movie at all. Anyhow, I was quite disappointed in the film overall - I agree this was a hot mess; I could have done without Ezra Miller altogether and would have preferred a Michael Keaton Batman movie over what we got. (BTW, kudos for honoring Ezra's "their" Pronouns)

I wonder how much the TV show played into the popularity of this movie. I loved the show (or the first few seasons of it) and so I wanted to see another take on Flash, while at the same time wishing GG was playing him. I spent the first part of the movie wishing it was GG and even JWS as Henry. After seeing it, I'm pretty upset that there were no appearances from that cast (but Nick Cage got to mug for the camera, apparently so Kevin Smith could wet himself), though I think it was alright. I also wonder how much it suffered from the news that HC, Gal Gadot, and BA aren't going to be back. I keep hearing there are people upset about Henry Cavill in particular. I think this movie had things stacked against it that have nothing to do with that movie or even the star, but the way the production company handled a fan base that I think may have wanted to give it a chance.

I think we are all a little underwhelmed because this was supposed to be The Movie that resets everything and we were supposed to be left with "Ahh" or "Ohh" in the end knowing where things are headed instead of having more questions and I agree with Ryan that it seems like the confusion and uncertainty is because the studio itself is testing things out and haven't fully decided what to keep and what not to based on reception and so far those decisions have backfired. Its why there are news that Flash is gonna have a sequel if this movie was received well and is why Reverse-Flash and murderer of Barry's mom hasn't been explored. If they are to be unsure about stuff instead of fully rebooting and resetting the slate, they might've as well keep Cavill for a while because people would throw crazy money at it specially how last few movies have been suffering financially. I mean tbh, I liked the backbone Gunn have been showing so far despite all the hatred but now it seems like he needed that backbone the most. Stuff like calling Flash, the greatest superhero movie of all time sounded desperate and it backfired, stuff like calling Blue Beetle a DCU character and yet calling Superman Legacy the first DCU movie also sounds like one of those desperate attempt at we don't know where Blue Beetle fits in but you guys are gonna want to watch it if we say he is a DCU character and not DCEU which will die anytime about now! I mean chronology aside, if Blue Beetle is DCU character, then this is the first DCU movie, people keep quoting Captain America but nope, Captain America despite the chronology wasn't the first MCU movie, Iron Man was, he was the first character and his was the first movie! I just think it will be hard to decide from here because this movie was supposed to be The Movie to decide what to keep and what to discard, it seems like we still have to wait for some sort of multiversal event again to jump into DCU!

I liked the movie. I didn't think about it more than what we saw at face value. There were a few things that were minor annoyances, but overall it was enjoyable. Going forward, I don't know what they've got in mind. I feel like they need to take some time and really plan out what they are going to do. I think a lot of the reason this film hasn't done well is that people are kind of burned out on run of the mill comic book movies. People don't want to watch a hot mess smorgasbord of random superhero troupes. They want to see a cohesive and compelling story from movie to movie with likeable characters who are involved from film to film.
