Hey, look, we ALL need a cope. If you don't think sexual liberation was the problem, that's completely your opinion to hold, but I can tell you tight now it's not changing anything lol. We men will ALWAYS care and you're not shaming us out not caring, especially not Gen Z men. So be sloots all you want, but most men won't take you seriously, just know that and accept it if you're going to do this is all. Stop complaining, we care, get over it.

But the feminist in the 1960s/70s who championed sexual liberation as a come up for women, sold the idea of commitment free sex as a power move for women... the proliferation of contraception at that time made it appear as though women could be as promiscuous as men. Fast forward to 2023, is this swipe left swipe right phenomenona really the success they thought it would be?

Now imagine a man trying to tell women this over a decade ade ago before the modern sexual revolution took place, only for women to scream him down, call him a misogynistic protector of the very "patriarchy" he tried to warn them against feeding into... all for simple desire to live out femme domme sexual fantasies. Ans even today, most feminists will STILL ignore the very men telling them the truth.

I think there is an important distinction to be made between "don't date people who don't value you as a human" or "don't pin your value on your beauty and desirability" and "don't sleep around" that isn't being made by some of these ladies. True sexual liberation means more than just having more sex, or catering to prevailing ideas of desirability.

This! Well said. Regret is typically due to feeling undervalued when the narrative was that you’d simply have more freedom to do what you want. The issue here is that folks think sexual liberation is synonymous with being sexually active so when things don’t work out favourably it’s easy to go back to basics. Sexual liberation is all about bodily autonomy and unlearning misogynistic ideas regarding sex. This all starts with the mind before you choose to lay (or not) with anyone. From what I’m hearing the ladies probably weren’t liberated to start with and are expressing it more now they’re abstinent. The conversation needs to be more balanced with girlies who aren’t sexually active but liberated (we don’t want to hear about soul ties my goodness) also being at the fore front of the movement

Like, you would think if they have so many issues with black women- that cannot have their own identity without being called bitter Bs, they would start to go to the community they grew up in and should think about how they need to infiltrate white woman spaces and make whiteness synonymous with biracial like they continue to do with black women, even though majority have a white mothers- this projection of biracial beauty being black beauty is the effect of biracials being “black” even though they are not racial or socially. The issue is not women feeling sexually liberated. It is that the liberation they felt did not transcend to society as a whole. Patriarchy essentially just co-opted that and saw it as "free real estate" to dupe and gaslight women into sexual promiscuity in the name of "empowerment" and "liberation." It doesn't help that internalized misogyny and purity culture also led women to ostracize and judge other women based on being or not being "liberated" in that way.

The sexual liberation movement was something spearhead by the feminist movement of the 1960s/70s. If it didn't work out like you wanted it to, your issue is with the women who championed it, not men. Yes, men have benefited greatly from it though. Since time in memoriam, men have always wanted commitment free sex from women, now men easily get sex out of women without having to marry... pump dump and move on to the next. To me it's just kinda odd that these women who were previously 'sexually liberated' look back with shame. That tells me the problem is still that women are shamed for sex outside of marriage, while also still being pressured to give it and being encouraged when they do. It's an impossible standard to both be pressured and praised to be sexual AND be shamed for it. It should just be neither of those things. Women (and everyone of course) should feel comfortable having sex if and when they want to without pressure or shame.

It comes down to the fact that women are viewed as commodities for consumption. After any product is consumed or “used”, it loses value. That’s the unfortunate dynamic that we’re in as women in relation to men. Of course, they will encourage you to be sexually available. They desire us, and people tend to want what they haven’t seen or experienced yet. But after they consume the experience, they deem us to be worth less than before. It’s a scam.

Coming from a very conservative household being sexual has been liberating for me. When I was being honest with myself and my partners about my wants and needs sexually and otherwise it was very liberating. I have had times were I had lower self-esteem and used sex to feel desirable. That did not feel liberating, but that was due to my own trauma and how I was acting it out. I have never been against people being sexually free even as I am now choosing to be abstinent to focus on trauma healing and regaining my self-love. I will always be against using sex as a means of control, social capital, or validation. I think to be sexually liberated women need to demand respect and care from their partners, be vocal about their sexual needs and willing to stop sex if their needs aren't being met. This can mean stoping in the act, stoping entirely with that person, stoping a certain kind of sex, whatever that woman seems necessary.

Ding Ding Ding!! And also people have to TEACH young people about the differences in Love and Sex and stop equating the two OR telling young people that not everyone is going to see the two in tandem with each other lol Like it's wild to me that so many people will be like "I'm looking for a meaningful relationship/looking for a husband" but either a) don't specify that and b) don't take the baby steps to get to the marriage certificate... and I mean, if sex is a way of expressing your like for someone, then you really have to be honest with others about that and not take who you have sex with lightly. You really have to investigate each person, be honest, ask them for honesty back, and say, "hey, I love sex, and I express my love/like through sex, but I don't want a one-night stand... I'm here for the long haul.. now tell me about yourself?" ... not saying it's that easy, but you cant expect people to value your values when you don't speak up/out lol

I never dated or had sex in my teens and didn't have my first sexual encounter until I was almost out of college. When I briefly dipped my toe into the hook up culture pool in my mid-20's, it was my version of waving the white flag and surrendering. Since roughly the age of 16 I had been *trying* to put myself out there, I *tried* to give men a chance to earn my trust and my respect and they made it clear that they were only going to see me as being good enough for one thing. So I finally said "Fxxk it, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." And it absolutely sucked. I didn't feel empowered at all, and I realized I was just giving them what they wanted without putting up a fight. These days I'm not sexually active but I *definitely* feel sexually liberated. I have much more confidence, I'm happy, I'm secure in myself, and I love myself. Men still don't try to earn access to me for the most part, but the difference is that now. . .with the way I've leveled up mentally and emotionally. . .I just no longer GAF. I no longer care if they find me attractive or worthy of genuine courtship. I'd rather be happily, purposefully single and celibate and enjoying my life than ever give somebody's sorry-ass son the benefit of having his way and then being on his way. Hook up culture was never meant to benefit women, it was just meant to brainwash us into contributing to our own degradation.

I agree with you completely and I don't understand why many women don't see this. If our liberation looks like we are still dancing on the stage of Male gaze, yelling "pick me" while Patriarchy sits in the audience clapping happily, then it is not liberation at all. We need to find the Female gaze (the opposite of Male gaze), the gaze that truly empowers us while uplifting our worth and dignity. The Female gaze does not necessarily mean the gaze of women (it is more than that). It is just everything the Male gaze is not. If the Male gaze diminishes us as sexual objects, enjoys our shame, and wants us to be nothing but entertainments for its pleasure, the Female gaze operates as the opposite. The Female Gaze is a foreign concept and hard to imagine because we as a society still runs on the Male gaze. But one day... I pray one day. Also the Female gaze does not mean shaming men instead. No, under this gaze everyone's worth (men as well as women) is affirmed, validated and true liberation is reached.

For me, it comes down to the constructions around purity and virginity. We all know that purity and “virginity” are ancient methods of controlling women/inheritance/lineage and knowing “who’s offspring is legitimate”. Old news. Nowadays, I feel like enforcing purity on women and hypersexuality on men creates a power imbalance via knowledge gap. If a man has a lot of experience (real or imagined), a woman is expected to defer to him for what sex is “supposed” to be like or feel like. It leaves room for abuse, manipulation, and mutual dissatisfaction. It makes it harder to know how to set appropriate boundaries. So yes, think about who you want to engage with! Be mindful of your partners and partnerships. But don’t eschew connections for “purity”. It’s not real, and it sets you up to fail. Make mistakes, learn, and grow. You don’t have to feel guilty about being experienced, or inexperienced. Sex and sexuality are *skills*. signed, someone in a happy, healthy relationship with someone who values me AND my experience.

It still sucks men can just have been ‘stupid in their teens and twenties’ but when women do it, it’s this terrible thing that has to be repented for before they are acceptable women again. True sexual liberation also means hooking up just to hook up is actually fine as long as both people want it even if it isn’t the most exciting world-altering experience. And you don’t have to wear the costume of overt sexuality to do so. You also don’t have to hide it like some dirty secret. A true sexual equality for women will mean it’s ok to have had a period of sex/sex partners you regret and simply grow out of that and want something more solid/deeper. Like men are allowed to do. I am not a person who slept around when I was younger. I didn’t even have my first kiss till 27. My mom wasn’t actually puritanical about discussing sex, she was honest. But she was an abstinence fan pointing out any baby that resulted from teen sex was the mother’s baby and daddy’s ‘maybe’. Just in observation I thought how girls were treated for indiscretions or even sexual regrets was terrible and unfair. (gen x here, btw) Even masturbation with boys is treated as normal in teen media. But female masturbation is often treated as abnormality. A family sitcom is more likely to allow ‘the boy might be masturbating’ joke and it will be treated as normal where as female masturbation doesn’t get the same treatment and is defaulted to adult entertainment only. Which says a lot about how we also view one body part as more acceptable to discuss then the other.

It’s so interesting to here from women who do have more partnered sex experiences than me reflect on what that’s been like. I honestly feel shame at times that I wasn’t “out there” much at all when younger, and if future partners would find that unappealing. But the means by which sex is easily available to me (casual, one-off encounters with people who wouldn’t care about me otherwise) just aren’t appealing, so I don’t engage. At this point, it feels like women can’t win either way…

i kind of believe this but I don’t think it’s more of a “tie” than an energy exchange. sex is a very charged activity emotionally, physically, can be tied up to trauma and desire etc etc… so when we exchange those energies with someone it does create a sort of energetic bond. that’s a reason why a lot of people experience bad effects after sleeping with a negative person. it’s just a temporary thing but can last longer and build up w the more negative people u sleep with or the more often u sleep with one. but you’re right no one is “energetically tied” to a random person they hooked up w years ago. unless it carried some other sort of energy be it romantic or whatever. energetic ties like this happen from literally everything not just sex !!

I wanted to comment on this to set the record straight because there’s a lot of bad doctrine on this topic. And then there’s people just pretending not to know what the conversation is about. - Men AND women can have “spiritual bonds or ties” with previous partners. This isn’t about gender - “Spiritual ties” is not biblical wording. It’s a way to describe building covenant with someone via sex. - Christians did not invent this practice or belief. You’ll find even spiritualists who aren’t Christian merge sex and magic/rituals to create bonds or connections that have an enhancing effect. This is why for fornication (sex outside of marriage) is a sin. Historically fornication with priestesses and other people was a spiritual practice or act of worship. Modern day Christians avoid idolatry, creating covenant with non Christians, and other sins by not having sex until they get married. All of what I’m saying is Biblical.

Men are allowed to "grow up" and in doing so shed their childish and immature behavior but what do women get when they grow up? I am 25 and find myself saying that I am 23 (depending on whose asking) because of this exact point!! My maturation is not a testament to the experiences I've accumulated and grown from, it's more often a reminder that I'm no longer as naive as men would like me to be. I'm still early into the stream so I don't know if this point is brought up, but a factor in why sexual liberation or social conservative ideas will not liberate women, is because capitalism recuperates both turning both lifestyle choices and the women who live them into products for consumption. Younger people who saw sexually liberated women at the same time as widely available pornography learned to associate it with exploitation, not being aware that the tradwife is also a product being sold to men.
@scarletsletter4466
@scarletsletter4466 Жыл бұрын
You’re correct that both lifestyle choices women can make are sold to men - the tradwife or liberated tramp. I think the reason so many women are now returning to the tradwife ideal is that choice offers a greater level of security & social capital. Being a fully independent liberated woman who doesn’t depend on a man is a risky proposition in our patriarchal culture. While I’ve never gone the promiscuous route, I spent most of my 20s single & paying for my own life (albeit as a successful professional) & I can state unequivocally that my life with my partner is easier & better in most ways. He doesn’t make me stay home, of course, but I can see why many women/ couples would make that choice. True liberation is about having that CHOICE.

Another great video Kim! I think that as a society, we may be looking at sexual liberation in a scope that is way too narrow and limiting. I think it should encompass a woman's right to choose whether or not to engage in sexual activity with a partner of her choosing on every occasion, how she wants to engage in it, and her autonomy over her female sexual organs and sexuality. I know that there's probably still a lot that I'm leaving out of the discussion. I remember one of the first partners that I ever got cunnilingus from in my early college years telling me "not to move my hips" while he was doing it. It was giving me pleasure at the time but I think his fragile male ego was threatened by the fact that I was taking charge over my sexuality in that way. He was clearly missing the mark when it came to pleasure and that's what I had to do in order to get the big O! It's crazy because he had no problem taking the reins and thrusting his hips when the roles were reversed. Anyway, now I do whatever I want to get pleasure in the bedroom with a partner, as long as it's safe and consensual. If my partner doesn't have a good reason for not wanting me to do something other than "control", I find another one. I hope the Gen Z women are taking hold of their sexual liberation more.

I'm 21 and I'm in the middle about this. You can be liberated while fully clothed because you don't need to prove that to anyone. But at the same time, anything sexual shouldn't be shamed, kids do things out of curiosity without thinking of the seriousness of it and it's our jobs as parents and adults to stop what's happening and inform them about what could've happened. For me, I was at the receiving end when one of my cousins wanted to try something and I didn't want to. She kept saying if I didn't we wouldn't be friends anymore. So I complied and it was gross, lucky my other cousin came into the room to stop it from going any further. If only an adult was there I don't think I would be so reluctant to see her. Even though, I understand that children can have these thoughts and feelings way earlier than most are led to believe.

I don't think the stale issue of women maturing and regretting their actions and choices in their younger years is a manosphere talking point. Most of the time the older generation's caution includes the regret. It is a snarky comment because we are tired of people acting like no one ever said any of the things they have come to realize as adults. Its just better to be open to criticism when you are inexperienced. That is advice that many people ignore to their detriment. I think we are tired of the act that they just realized something that was pointed out to them in many ways all along.

Gen x here we didn’t realize how much influence men still held over our supposed sexual liberation. If we had foresight and some of us and the elders did warn us, that the type of liberation we were engaging in would lead to exploitation by men under the guise of sexual freedom. The benefactors of devaluing sexual pickiness & lowering our standards are very rarely women. There’s a power in keeping sexual access at a premium and we are seeing the results of devaluing it on our minds, bodies, culture and society in general. The pendulum does need to swing back so it can settle in a more balanced space. Hence more moving in silence and better selection of partners who offer benefit beyond a 10 second organs. Toys can give you that. Sexual access should require more because of the toll it takes on the woman physically and spiritually. We live & learn. GL ladies.

Just a thought about Brttany Renner the problem with her is that she was sleeping with men in order to get them to like her and she was looking for validation and esteem in exchange for sexual favors. That is very different IMO to someone who loves themselves and values themselves and is comfortabe exoploring their bodies with whomever they choose. In Brittany's example she was not doing it because it is truly what she wanted rather for the reward she thought she would get from it.

It never occurred to me to feel shame or to have a single regret. A couple of longterm friends also seem to have an absence of negative feelings about sexual exploration. I didn't think of it as sexual liberation when I was younger. I just did what made me feel pleasure and excitement without feeling trapped like a pet. It's hard to understand why women feel regret. Was there an absence of enjoyment? I don't get it. Maybe we just have to be mindful of our own "wiring." Very interesting.

Wow! All they could say is you're just jealous?! Lol! In their game they need haters, the heirarcy makes no sense without it. To entertain the fact that you could have more and be less desirable is earth-shattering shattering to them. To accept the idea that if know what you want and feel you are deserving of it you will get it regardless of what you look like or were you fit in the heirarcy is completely ludicrous in their world. The idea of option out is complete madness. I am glad I opted out of this thinking. It's exhausting and performative. Great video.

Men get to live their lives, do what they want but women have to deal with misogyny and shame culture for living how they want to. Where are the "promiscuity is bad for males" videos? Their hypersexuality is normalised. Sometimes even their cheating is blamed on their partner. Maybe if males had to deal with some shame, they wouldn't be committing the majority of violent and perverted crimes on the entire planet.

@@sapihrcristal Can you show me? I know some religious folk believe in no sex before marriage. And then there are those incel-type misogynists who think males having a "high body count" is a positive thing. 🤦🏽‍♀️ But where are the men who preach promiscuity and perverse behaviour is bad for men in general?
@skrawberrries
@skrawberrries Жыл бұрын
@@dearrationals A lot of men do, they just aren't doing it for women. They generally advocate that it's ultimately meaningless to have sex without having a real connection. Look up youtube videos on hookup culture, or the inefficiency of dating apps. one thing to note when going through these videos is that a lot of these men have tried to live up to misogynist standards, but they found it wanting. However their immersion in this lifestyle still leaves traces in their mindsets, whether they are aware of it or not. They are only against hookup culture because its ineffectual, and not necessarily because of their concern for women. They aren't [typically] feminist and may still carry sexist rhetoric, their awakening only comes out of a dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs

For people who enjoy to be liberated in that way, please be safe. be happy and live your life according to the religion you subscribe to or just yourself. If you enjoy living however way you'd like to live, be proud of who you are, and what you like and enjoy. I feel like Brittany has been pressured to change and speak about her private life. She doesn't have to explain anything to anyone. The fact that she is being introspective about her past is good. Some change is a good thing, I just hope she is changing because she wants to and not because she's being shamed or pressured to do so. Honestly, the lesson she is learning is something that a lot of people face and I believe this type of growth and development is best done privately.

My thing is these women are capable of saying I gave in to unhealthy things and I’m growing. But men, wait until their body is failing them to say, I’m ready to settle down and then perpetuate the idea that the young men should still try to sleep as many women as possible until they can.

So many amazing topics, comments and great opinions brought up within this; what a great space to be able to listen and understand these ideas !👌 When it got to around 1 hour and 53 mins and a comment had stated “you can still expect care from casual sex”, it almost makes me think “to an extent” because, what if the person you are deciding to have casual sex with really enjoys sadism, to the extent where they will act like they’re decent and then switch one time without informing you💭 I guess, as long as you are with someone who is on the same wavelength and understanding of what the casual sex will be, then fair enough- I think it’s too much of a risk to place on someone you may not get to know in terms of character before trusting them with one’s body but it’s still interesting to hear others’ opinions💭 Overall, an amazing discussion Harriet !x
