In regard to the idea of Antman's death, even MattPatt from Film Theory thought it was a good idea. Linking his death to the motivation of uniting heroes against Kang.
@SpottedHares Жыл бұрын
Ant man is kind of the 9 to 5 super hero. you couldn't make the argument that if he fails then the polices or some other normal agency could just fix the problem. When he not on the job he just doing normal stuff, keeping out of prison being a dad you know normal thing. When its in a bigger move he dose a good job of showing what a real normal person is going to be like. But the wrong pick for Kang, Kang kind of needed a heavy hitter that we normal would assume would win... only to loose no contest really sell how dangers he is by letting him win right at the start no problem. Should have been multivers of madness, Kang vs multiple Dr.strange and a not badly written scarlet witch. And Kang wipes the floor with then, no contests., the got slapped and had no chance whats so ever. Seven million realities and in one they last a few second longer kind of beat down. The only reason the heros make it though is Kang has more important goals then confirming the kill against something that isn't a threat on any level.

@janellelives5158 Жыл бұрын
They need to incorporate more practical effects and sets. My favorite scenes from phase 4 have been the more grounded & emotional moments. Like NWH’s Green goblin vs. Spider man fights. Another example are the flashback sequences from Shang Chi. Also just the writing for the most part sucks. I keep seeing hints of a compelling story buried underneath the lack of nuance, awful jokes and bad dialogue. The over reliance on generic and simple story devices is killing these movies. Plus overall the multiverse plot thread is messy. That stuff was poorly planned. unfortunately. even the movies from this phase not related to the multiverse sucked. They should have at least excelled in those films. And I don’t want anymore tv shows unless they’re given a minimum of 10 episodes + well thought out. There’s too much sub par or plainly bad content being thrown at the audience.

The point I'm building to is that despite the fact that I'm over a decade out of school I can still enjoy a film despite it not telling a 100% original story, we've been out of original stories for generations. If a Pop-culture black hole like me can enjoy movies, all of the regular viewing public who have only ever read three books and haven't managed to hit four digits in their number of movies watched can stop pretending that they're above it all and have seen all there is to see. The early MCU films look infinitely better then all of phase four and some of phase three because they used practical effects and filmed on location, making each film look and feel unique. And I don’t fault the CGI artists and animators for this at all, they are doing all the can do. Could you imagine if it were competing with Avatar: Way of Water for its CGI hype and buzz, and if it were a real contender (if not winner) at the Academy in that category? I think people would be talking about Quantumania differently. It still has tone and story and character problems, but Marvel knew going in to Quantumania that they were going to spend the whole film in the quantum realm--they should have known upfront to invest more heavily in VFX so that we don't get CG fatigue. Imagine the discourse on this film if people were gushing over its VFX creativity and how immersive and stunning the quantum realm is. Warning wall of text incoming :) This seems like a problem on paper, but honestly once you start interpreting the MCU in a way that got comic book fan interprets comics it quickly goes away. What I mean by this is that there are... SO many comics. Such a vast array of content produced for a vast array of characters. Us comic book fans don't read everything that comes out, we read what interests us. I've always seen the MCU the same way. If you decide to view the MCU is something you need to see every individual piece of, that's you exhausting yourself. If you plan to stick with the franchise (and if you don't, that's fine) I promise you that you will be much better off cherry picking what interests you rather than watching everything marvel pumps out like homework. You will have a much more fulfilling experience. I don't really agree with the consensus of the video that you should feel compelled to watch every bit of scrap you're fed in case you miss anything. If you don't want to, don't. It's your time, your spend it. I wasn't interested in Thor 2, or Black Widow, so? Didn't watch it. Didn't watch WandaVision or Loki or What If, and I'm not gonna watch Ironheart when it comes out this year. If something comes out with a character I like who I missed, I make the choice to go back and watch that. This doesn't really fix the quality problem, but it does mean you can live your life. Disney couldn’t care less about the quality of the product they’re releasing anymore. They just care about generating mass amounts of revenue by pumping out as much product as possible, hence phase four having more content in a shorter period of time than the first three phases combined. I'd be willing to remain optimistic. Another comment I've read points out that this fourth phase has emerged during a lot of corporate changes at Disney, with Chapek pushing their content to the newly launched streaming service right as the world went into pandemic lockdown. Now that streaming competition has taken away that lustre from Disney+, and Bob Iger is back in the driver seat, the changes to their productions should be palpable. I think the slowdown in title rollout will help to not only improve their graphics, but also won't drag them through pointless rewrites and edits that make these shows and films unwatchable. Hiring directors like Gunn, Coogler, Shakman, and Herron shows to me that they trust their artistic direction and creativity, which has paid off in terms of audience reception. I have my fingers crossed that they won't go the same route as Warner Brothers and HBO Max with their slash and burn tactics to try and get their franchises back into profitable margins. I think they were lighting the candle at both ends by pumping tv series to the platform while rushing to return films to the theatres, which stretched their production teams too thin and abused their talents in unforgivable ways. I would much rather wait longer to see the films they have in the pipeline than to have routine releases of MCU titles every 4 to 6 months, knowing that they have some time to breathe and really focus on the storytelling, rather than overwhelming the viewers with over-the-top CGI and lackluster dialogue. Given some space, there's a lot of material to work with as they move into the next phase with new actors, in ways that are particularly sensitive to the films that came before it.

Another reason it is failing is that they thought the franchise will continue to be successful by itself because it was well established as successful at that point. They were so confident it will keep on going by itself and they removed Iron Man, captain America (and even Thor I would say) without having first established replacement characters that would have the same appeal to continue as leading figures. Let’s be honest, Iron man and cap heavily carried MCU up to this point and I was hoping that Doctor strange would be a viable next leading figure but he was given a secondary role even in his own movie. Honestly though, it is a good thing they removed them, imagine seeing Tony and cap in movies like love and thunder and in series like she hulk…

For a very simple reason. To compare it with videogames, the MCU is right now in that stage where you are playing an open world game or RPG, you just finished the main story and you are now just doing side quests. Sure, there can be a fun side quest every now and then, or have fun fucking around for the sake of it, but nothing takes away the feeling that the game is over, that the ending happened and the credits rolled. The MCU is in here but even worse because it also got rid of not just it's main characters, but what have always been the most important Avengers like Cap and Iron Man. It happened what I think many people feared: that they had no plans after Thanos.

Technically, I think it's because it also didn't need to be directly connected as well. What happens in each movie isn't largely important other than Avengers and Infinity War. Heroes are largely simple, and the point comes across easy enough. In Avengers, it was about the team. In Infinity War, it was about Thanos. Maybe it helps having a lot of experience with comics, but it's not like you're coming into a complex comic run where you have to read every issue. I don't really worry about characters' motivations between series. Overall, to say you don't need to watch every entry.
@donkrouskop4753 Жыл бұрын
Phase 4 had two perfectly serviceable possible villains that it completely wasted or didn't use at all - Scarlet Witch and Mephisto. So much of the latter half of the first decade of the MCU was spent setting up how powerful and dangerous Wanda Maximoff is, and WANDAVISION set the stage for her to go on and become the ultimate "big bad" for the next era. Or at least, for her to be used in that way by Mephisto, who was manipulating things behind the scenes. HOUSE OF M was perfectly set up and then summarily dropped because the makers of MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS decided they had to shoot their wad sooner rather than later. The audience was invested in Wanda. Having her turn and then ultimately be redeemed (likely sacrificing herself) at the end of the larger arc would have been brilliant. Instead, she was shuffled off the stage hurriedly so Kang could step in and also thoroughly underwhelm. There's just no singular vision anymore. Feige and his masters at Disney don't know where they're going. So we, the audience, don't care anymore.

One thing that annoyed me with MODOK was the fact that Mechanised Organism could have referred to his design having metallic cybernetic implants for life support. That would have made the design look far more monstrous and grotesque. Also the fact that it is stated in Ant Man that shrinking down without a functioning suit messes with the user’s brain chemistry which could have allowed the writers to give MODOK a genius level intellect due to him shrinking to a subatomic level. It frustrates me that the writers didn’t try at all to make MODOK a serious villain. Calendar Man in DC was reimagined to me a terrifying criminal in The Long Halloween and I feel like MODOK’s premise could have been used effectively if the writers actually cared. On a different issue, Cassie’s recklessness is a character flaw that could have been interesting but the movie tries to recast the flaw as altruism to try and make her more heroic. I didn’t enjoy this film, not because it was the worst movie, but because it wasted a lot of potential and it is riddled with the exact same problems as Phase 4. But the worst thing by far about this movie was the fact that I was talking about this movie to a friend (we both saw the film independently) and he told me that it was the first time he left a Marvel Movie feeling nothing, and the same was true for me. When the movie finished, there was no continued buzz and excitement that Marvel used to give me and it’s a shame that that’s what this film represents, to me and my friend at least.

Idk when that point was reached. I remember enjoying the Hawkeye series and Moon Knight (tho I did wonder how tf Moon Knight would tie into the rest in the future), but then...nothing. I hated Dr. Strange 2 for what they did to Wanda. I was annoyed at Thor 4 because they just wasted the God butcher (and Bale) and the tone and humor were awful. Black Panther 2 was boring as hell and so was the villain. I can't even remember what shows we got. I liked Ms. Marvel, but it just didn't feel like it belonged to the MCU und it doesn't fit in there. She Hulk was an abomination (pun intended). For me after endgame not a lot of mcu projects even get me hype anymore like they used too. Rn marvel is pretty much just throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. It’s sad Marvel has somewhat lost that spark they had. Not all of their newer projects are bad but it’s definitely a majority of them. ESPECIALLY some of the shows. Rn it’s just oversaturated. Kinda want them to just go back to the drawing board and actually take their time making them films instead of rushing them out and actually give the vfx team time to work on the cgi too. The fact a transformers movie looks better than a modern mcu film scares me 💀. Not to mention kang just doesn’t come off as threatening to me. A perfect example on how to make a villain threatening would be how Atriox was introduced or hell even Thor from god of war ragnarok felt a lot more threatening.

Imo spiderman far from home has been the only great movie after endgame, no way home was mediocre at best and everything else has been trash
@Nightlizard1564 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelseif1688 imo i agree but I don’t necessarily think nwh was mediocre since while they did use fan service it actually worked for the plot pretty well. For me the only projects I liked was nwh, Loki, falcon and winter soldier, MK, and werewolf by night. Everything else to me was either mediocre or just bad in general

Such a shame about Cassie, her character compared to the other movies literally feels like they started from scratch just based off of what the new actress looked like
@PokeBeardTCG Жыл бұрын
Cassie is literally barely in any other movie. What are you talking about

She’s my favourite character in the original comics and I guess my bias kept me from realising how bad this film was… still like Cassie though.

@@PokeBeardTCG She's in Endgame and that version (lightyears better despite being in one scene) is nothing like the garbage we got in this shitshow of a movie.
@PokeBeardTCG Жыл бұрын
@@thetruedarkener that one scene isn't enough. You're full of shit. You just don't like this new acress. Compare their credits and the new Cassie has done bigger and better projects. I had no complaints about Cassie.

6:13 "It became a chore" OMG yes! Like I could tolerate the occasional Thor 2 as long as I knew it was leading to something better but now? It's like quicksand. We're just slogging through never ending crap.
