Barring injury, Jaylin Williams is definitely a career NBA player. He’s a great defender, passer, and an all-around hustle guy. (And, yeah, the “other” JW is supposed to be good too.) OKC showed smarts with this draft.

Jaylin Williams is who I wanted the Mavs to take originally if they stayed at 26. Still wish they had traded back into the draft to get him. He's probably not going to be a superstar but I think he'll be good and consistent for a long time (a-la Al Horford, the player he compares himself to).

No one is making fun of OKC for having too many picks, are you guys nuts? They can sell their picks for 2 better picks the year after ad infinitum. Also, I'm not sure they feel the need to tank anymore. They can try and see if they can get to the playoffs and then use their picks to improve the squad. It's a dream scenario.
@t4d0W
@t4d0W 2 жыл бұрын
Its not as easy as you make it out to be. OKC only got the 11th pick in the draft this year by selling three future firsts that are VERY protected. The key thing is recognizing the value of those firsts in comparison to picking the 11th this year to get a guy Presti has in his board that he's is confident in scouting him. So I'm safe to assume Presti sees Dieng a boom/bust prospect that he could never easily land with those three protected firsts he had. When it comes to the draft knowing what you have and meeting part of that expectation is better than what is behind mystery draft pick #23 or something.

I know it’s routine for taking heads to see a team’s final record and assume they know everything they need to know. But Kevin was close when he said they were playing hard. They literally had to sit every one of their top ten players last year in order to lose games. They were too competitive with their starters on the floor down the stretch. I really believe that when they release the hounds, this young Thunder team is going to follow in the footsteps of the first few years of Durant and Westbrook. This is how you build an NBA dynasty. Now they just have to keep their best players in town.

I think the Pistons were the biggest winners of the draft. Getting Jalen Duren & Jaden Ivey to go with Cade Cunningham was a terrific haul. Jalen Duren IMO reminds me of Boogie Cousins in his prime when he was coming out of Kentucky, except he's a way better defender & more athletically inclined. Jaden Ivey was the most athletic guard in the draft with very high upside, he plays a similar game to Ja Morant even if he's not as explosive. Those were two very good pickups... I liked the Spurs picks as well Malaki Branham has a Jaylen Brown type game & was a 49% shooter from the floor, he's a smart high Basketball IQ player that will thrive in the Pick & Roll offense & understands good shot selection. And Jeremy Sochan is the perfect fit for the Spurs, good passing Big man that can switch out & guard 1-5. Pistons & Spurs had the best draft hauls IMO.

@@bniamyebrah455 You're right. But Boogie didn't really develop a lot of the offensive aspects of his game until about year 4 in the NBA. When he was coming out of Kentucky he was still more of an old school 90's style Big who only operated in the Post, he didn't develop the Jump shot & the face up game until a few years into his career. I think Jalen can develop a consistent offensive game in the league, he'll never be a guy that can knock down 3's, but I can see him developing a solid face up game & being able to step out around 15ft to get buckets. But most importantly, he'll be a great rebounder & Rim protector in the league because his size & athleticism will be tough to contend with as gets a better understanding of the game. Duren can have a Myles Turner type impact as a Shot blocking Big.

@t4d0W 2 жыл бұрын
Being bottom 4 isn't bad. Sometimes the draft is pure luck for a team to do bad but get that top 1~3 pick in a draft year where those positions have franchise players. The Wolves landing #1 to get Edwards is huge as they already have two all-star caliber guys in Russell/KAT. Hornets getting LaMelo was huge too as it gave them a great player to build a team on (playmaking big guard). OKC is still that talent away and a proven perimeter defense but once they get that player, Chet/SGA/Giddey/Dort and the project picks are a good well developed cast to have around.

@undergrounddojokeyboardcag701

They'll barely miss the POs... actually, they might even play in a play-in game. People really ignore that Presti and the coaching staff had to keep putting players on the IR list for extended periods of time for them to stop winning too many games. And we saw how much SGA learned from CP3 about leadership and running plays.... you throw a couple vets on this team and you don't hinder them in an attempt to get a top pick (which i don't think they will after last night's trade, even tho its protected) and you have a pretty dangerous team actually.
@t4d0W
@t4d0W 2 жыл бұрын
Some franchises run their playoff testing program better than others. Thing is everyone in November has a 'shot' at the playoffs. But by December/January, teams do their job distinguishing themselves if they can 1~6 spots in the playoff race. Scrappy teams who are solid know if they have the talent to match up and get out the play-in to take the 7-8 spots. And probably will make key acquisitions for the play-in but won't over extend their resources. Those who know they have young talents but have no business pushing deep will just make moves by the ASG to get their roster fit for tanking and getting their assets ready for the next offseason.
@BREAKFROMLGBT
@BREAKFROMLGBT 2 жыл бұрын
They definitely won't do that, if they start winning they will sit guys. They aren't impatient like some other teams like Pacers or Kings
@undergrounddojokeyboardcag701
@undergrounddojokeyboardcag701 2 жыл бұрын
@@BREAKFROMLGBT That's silly. I'd actually say that Presti making that trade to have a total of 3 lottery quality players for next season, very much tells us that next year will be the start of no more tanks. You cannot ask young, developing, lottery talent (with one being a possibly unicorn) to keep intentionally tanking. And It has nothing to do with rushing a gameplan or the franchise being impatient. Rather the young players are impatient but even more importantly, you cannot continue to hinder their development by doing this, which is exactly what is going to happen. Dort and SGA were already established players who are merely perfecting their game's so asking them to do this for two years in a row is not as big of a deal, but you still don't want to continue to ask them to do this. With those three picks we now have an 8 or 9 man rotation, all developing players in their rookie contracts (except Favors) and all need to learn how to play on an NBA level and on that team with that team's dynamics. Im not sure why you'd lump the Pacers in with the Kings, the Pacers are pretty good at creating rosters and competing teams. The Kings on the other hand have not done anything note worthy in decades.
@t4d0W
@t4d0W 2 жыл бұрын
@@undergrounddojokeyboardcag701 Dort and SGA got significant starting roles with the Thunder. Before that SGA was a pet project with the Clippers and Dort was an undrafted gem. Thing is making the playoffs is not as EZ as just putting talent together and hope something sticks. Defense is an interestingly big metric to be a playoff caliber team and being able to play like a top 10 defense will get them there. Look at the Wolves/Grizz/Mavs for that matter where all those teams were top 10 defensive squads by the ASG and were on track for the playoffs (Wolves would settle for the play-in but win anyway). Then you need an offense that has various answers. OKC needs more than just SGA to punch at the top despite the team having multiple ball handlers/passers. The art of the tanking isn't being 'intentional' about it. It is making it out to be a process where the whole team understands what it is to be caliber unless they hit certain prerequisites (or get lucky via other teams getting injured). Then its a matter of hitting the only avenue where the Thunder can get young talent and hope they get their 'KD/Russ/Harden' moment which is the draft.

Perk being mad at the time (and realizing he was wrong later) doesn't change that. The Thunder could have rolled the same team back in 2013, then eaten the tax starting in 2013-2014. They chose not to, because they didn't want to pay the tax. This after intentionally moving their team to a smaller market. F those guys, I'm not going to waste any of my life defending billionaire ownership groups.

Dude played against top national competition in the AAU circuit and dominated (which is why he was a top recruit in the country). Top players who come into the league have played against other top players. Does that mean he will succeed? Of course not. But, it won’t be because he has never really been tested against other top players.

I had an epiphany. KD goes back to OKC. Hear me out. If Nets lose Kyrie this team will fall apart like jenga... KD will not be happy being stuck with Ben. He can go back to his old team like Lebron and try win a title with a bunch of young talent... also, the Nets could get like 5 or 6 1st round picks from OKC and OKC wouldn't even care. This is a way the Nets can just rebuild having the least amount of fallout as possible. Just start over. I think the Thunder are in a spot now that they can just start competing and get that superstar. Nobody better now for it than Durant. He has another 5 years left.

These are smart people, but how can they suggest trading away SGA for having a better chance at drafting Viktor! That does not make sense. Even if you finish last, you only have a 14% chance. With SGA they might finish as 6/7th worst team - still having a 8-10% chance. Is it worth it to trade away a blue chip like SGA for that difference of 5%? No! You tank for a player like SGA. And Thunder has only been 2 years into their rebuild, and they already have arguably the best young core. Another season of tanking and they should be ready to go.

The sixers were tanking for damn near a decade and essentially started scamming the system.
