First-hand experience of a counter-sniper. In 2009 my wife and I stayed at a hotel near the presidential palace in Sri Lanka. Our room was on one of the top floors of the hotel. Soon as we went inside I took out my binoculars, opened window curtains and started looking at the surroundings. Within two minutes of the time I opened the curtains, the phone in the room started to ring. My wife answered and the call was from hotel reception. The receptionist told my wife to request me to step away from the window and asked to speak to me. So I spoke with the receptionist and asked what the issue was. The receptionist said to me, "Sir you can't use any surveillance devices to look out the window and if you have made any recordings please delete them". She then told me to look at a sign at the bottom of the window which I was not aware of. The sign on the window said no surveillance devices to be used to observe the surroundings because the hotel was located in a high-security area. After I ended the call, I became concerned about our privacy and went down to reception to find out how they knew I was using my binoculars to look out the window. The receptionist explained that there were snipers and observation points placed on top of the buildings to identify any threats to the safety of the area due to the presidential place which is located near the hotel. In the experience mentioned above, the security personnel who spotted me using my binoculars had to spot me amongst hundreds of windows. It is very hard to believe that the American Secret Service with their experience and resources they have could not spot one guy moving around a roof with a gun.

Going by this video and other reports they did have an eye on him just they cannot shoot an innocent citizen so had to wait until he did something. The failing is that they only sent 1 police officer to take him done not many and he got scared for his life then didn't try again. Yeah i get it they were thin on resources for the event and should make Trump no longer do outside events in the theory of the inside is safer but still the failing of giving up after 1 time to just keep an eye on him is a major failing. Yes it can take 3 minutes to line up a sniper shot from just having the range finder on him to taking the shot. Mostly to make sure that when the guns shoots it will hit the target and not miss. The major delay seems to have been having to realign the sights as they were not with guns trained on him until he started shooting just what looks like a range finder so they will know how to set up the gun to kill him if he shoots. So maybe they need snipers who can line up and take shoots quicker though most snipers like that are in the active offensive military not the secret service. The other issue is it isn't illegal to fly a drone over a rally, it isn't illegal to use a range finder as a way to see something far away but not shoot at them suspicious yes also it is not illegal while it isn't illegal to process a gun at a rally. So he did nothing illegal until he started shooting at Trump to which he died soon after.

It has a temporary disable button, but this button is the same as the test button, so what happens sometimes is that it beeps for a few seconds and by the time I get to the button it has stopped beeping, so instead of temporarily shutting off the beeping, I end up inadvertently triggering the test functionality, which makes it do MORE beeping; then after I've walked back to my chair it detects the _nonexistent_ smoke again and starts beeping again. Ad infinitum. I put some tape over the speaker. It still works, it's still quite loud, but slightly less harmful to my ears.

Oh, and the shooter is clearly related to Elizabeth Warren. This was a psyop with absolutely no legitimacy: the shooter's name is bs; the location of the shooter that is shown is bs; all the conspiracy theories being thought up are bs; the supposed bystander who was killed has a name that concords with "out of the house of Baal"; and Trump actually flinched his head INTO the line of fire (were there actually a bullet, he would have died that day)!

Another video shows the closer barn sniper obtaining and breaking off a target, just prior to the Trump ear-shot. We only have speculation as to why he stood down, it could be anything from a completely wrong target, seeing a cop stick their head up, other obstruction etc. Regardless, it would be nearly the equivalent of firing at the roof of an occupied police station, from an elevated position. Any-to-Many intra-squadron radio contact is obscenely rare, and would more likely cause more confusion. Instead, this would typically be small count ops roles, who would have all the tools channels radios texts at their fingertips, and able alert or command any group/squad, without the other group's knowledge. I don't believe we have the SS account yet. Abscence of information release is not confirmation of inaction ~ as has been widely speculated. To me, I would suggest we can visually see that somehow the snipers had been alerted.

@@visionhawk4403 It's standard to have a command post with representatives from USSS and all supporting agencies. Local police do not (and generally cannot) communicate directly with USSS on their radio network because they are usually incompatible. The whole purpose of the communication center within the command post is to allow local police to talk to their representative in the command post and for that representative to quickly relay the information to the USSS representative (or other appropriate agency) who can then broadcast the information to the agents working the protection detail. Think of it like this: Local and neighboring municipal police and county sheriffs would likely by on frequency A because they all have radios that can communicate with each other. State police and other state level agencies might be on frequency B because they use different frequencies or bands than the local cops. non-local municipal or county police brought in for the event due to specialties or resources not possessed locally (explosive detection K9s, bomb squad, SWAT snipers, etc.) might me on frequency C because they have no normal need or ability to communicate with the agencies on frequencies A or B since they are from another part of the state. Fire and medical personnel might be on frequency D. Secret Service is on frequency E. However, representatives from each of the agencies using frequencies A, B, C, D and E are all present in the Command Post sitting at a table and specifically tasked with monitoring their designated frequency and relaying any pertinent information to the others. So, for example, a local sheriff's deputy on frequency A sees a suspicious person and calls it in. The representative monitoring A briefs the rest of the group. The USSS agent assigned to the CP can then broadcast that info on frequency E so the agents are aware, and the state guys who might have officers closer can rebroadcast it on B so their people know and can respond. Or much more commonly, someone from frequency A or B sees that someone is having a medical emergency. They radio it to the monitoring CP and their representative (A or B) tells the EMS representative in the room and they rebroadcast it on frequency E to let the nearby firefighters and paramedics know what's happening and where to respond. That's essentially how it works and is supposed to work. The relay process shouldn't take more than a few seconds once the information comes in on any of the channels to get rebroadcast on the more appropriate channel. I do not know why there was such a breakdown and delay in response in this incident. But I can tell you there was (because there always is) communication between local police and USSS through a relay process like I described above. The "creating a secure channel" for everyone to be able to use is just not how it works. In theory, it could work, but in practice, it does not. Some radios are simply incompatible with other radios. Some police agencies are on VHF and some are on UHF. Some are encrypted and some are not. The Comm Center in the CP is generally way interagency comms are relayed to one another whenever you have lots of agencies interoperating at the local, state and federal level. It would not be feasible to issue everyone (a couple hundred or more cops from probably a dozen different agencies) a new special radio that could transmit and receive on one common frequency so they could all talk directly to each other. It would also be a terrible idea to do it since tons of routine radio traffic (like a medical aid, traffic issue, question about something) would clutter and drown out the priority stuff. That's why all comms are monitored in the Command Post and those who are monitoring only brief the others on things that are pertinent to them.

I feel like blaming the insane amount of (near) assassinations on the secret service is missing the big picture. The political system in America is basically perfectly made to created two camps that see the other as "the enemy". So with that and the ease at which someone with ill intentions can get a gun, you'd be hard pressed to find a better breeding ground for assassination attempts. Of course the video raises good points and the secret service should have done better, but I do feel like the section in the beginning painted a false picture

The video actually calls off the reasoning everyone who fired on every president used - basically all of them were severely mentally ill, seeking infamy, or both... and recent news has revealed the kid who did this shooting researched both candidates and fired on the one he did purely because he thought he'd be a strategically easier target. So yeah, even if we had a way better political system with way less polarization, pretty much all of the attempts still would have happened.

U.S. and UK premiers are briefly travelling together, the U.S. team brief about how they have 10 guys here, 15 walking the route, 6 standby locations, 20 armed men waiting in each, 6 armoured cars, a total of 120 men directly involved in the journey. When the Brits mention that they have just 10 guys in total and most of them are just support teams one of the yanks declares "Seriously?" and is met with chuckles around the room, the head of the U.K. team retorts, "Well, we haven't lost one yet." As the US teams present will have been acutely aware of the horrifyingly long list of bullets that have found their mark in presidents in the last century, the quip did not go down well.

Well first, Britain doesn’t have gun crime, they have knife crime which is arguably a LOT easier to protect a high profile individual from. Second, who are they protecting, the royals? Certainly the Queen didn’t need trump-level protecting from a population who absolutely adored her for 3 quarters of a century (most reports I found give her a rating of about 85% with the population). Who else, a prime minister? Have you seen British politics? It’s an absolute circus. The people don’t really care all that much like Americans do about politics. Now I say this as a British American-truthfully most Brits are very uneducated and don’t know the first thing about politics, let alone live in a polarized climate with 2 parties growing further and further apart while simultaneously having easy access to machine guns. In all, I think this argument is weak at best, it’s an apples to oranges comparison.
