For me, what's the difference between what Suarez did and what pretty much every professional footballer does when fouling players on purpose? Nothing. Players cheat all of the time, leave a foot in, grab or tug on a shirt, push a defender from behind to get an open header, play acting (like what won the free kick leading up to the handball). Gyan just blew it in the moment, Ghana blew it in PKs.

Sure enough Ghana miss the penalty and Uruguay advance to the next round, Suarez made that happen. Same thing with Liverpool and the biting incident, Suarez wanted to go to Barca and Liverpool were not going to sell him, so he forced them to sell him by biting another player and getting suspended for 6 month, like it or not, he did what he had to do to achieve his goal lmao, and then goes on to be part of the greatest attacking trio with Messi and Neymar wrecking absolute havok.

As an Irishman I know this ironic when I say this given our incident with Henry, but I'm not gonna lie, if I was in Suarez position, that late into the game I'd probably do the same, it's one of those heat of the moment things that you do without thinking because you want to win. Now I did feel really really bad and sympathise with Ghana that world cup after Ireland was dumped out in that infamous game against France, but yeah, I understand why he did it, have i forgiven henry and should Ghana forgive Suarez, hell no but I understand the reasoning, it's just the need to win that you're willing to sacrifice yourself to help your nation and fortunately it worked out for Henry, you win some you lose some, that's just football and it's why we love it and keep crawling back 😂

I always thought about this idea in football. Like take a scenario where you(non goal keeper) are at the goal post and a ball is coming at the post at the last minutes, that it's how 100 percent sure that it is going to go in despite the stuff you can do with the potential of your legs. Then why not use hands? I know that it is wrong, but to win you got to take some risky moves This way there be a lesser chances of goals scored since it goes into a penalty. Where you once again have a chance to defend the score. Sounds unlawful but is a brilliant move

Great video from Football Iconic, keep up the work man. About the story I understand both sides opinions. For Uruguay it was a show of passion for the national team and Suarez was a leader of the team at that World Cup. But I would’ve liked if you got more in-depth why Ghanaian and African people reacted like this against Suarez. (Before he went back to South Africa of course😂) The past issues he had against black players were not in his favor and all the outrageous comments he made about Ghanaian people after the game and World Cup was also not helping his case. People need to understand that on that day even though Ghana lost on their mistake of missing the penalty which I acknowledge totally. You need to know that on that day the entire African continent was behind Ghana national team not only for representation as the last African team to make it this far in the competition but also because they represented the entire African continent. That day Africans regardless of country, religion, skin color were behind Ghana for winning that game, as they were showing to the World that Africa wasn’t just a continent of poor people who cannot afford and/or eat proper meals. NO!! They showed that they were hard workers, they wanted to get out of that environment of poverty. For a cultural explanation what those players experienced was more then football after that game, they lost more then a game, it was a dishonor. In African culture when you succeed in whatever job you have to take care of your family the entirety of it. And it has an even bigger affect when you become a professional athlete. When you play your sport you do not only represent yourself, you represent your family, your country, the entire African continent which is a big amount of responsibility. (Without going into politics of course.) This is why Ghanaian and Africans felt like they were robbed that day. I hope that I answered some people questions in the commentary section. All of you have a blessed day🙏🏾.

Unpopular Opinion here but I support Suarez's decision to use his hands in the situation. Let's say he doesn't: Ghana Scores in the 119th minute, Uruguay goes 2-1 down and almost definitely gets eliminated. But instead, he uses his hands to block the ball, accepts the Red Card and chooses to take a chance on the Ghana penalty taker missing or his keeper saving it and then hoping his team then goes on to win in a shootout. Then he would have to miss the Semi-Final but could then play in the Final. So, when you look at it from his perspective it was probably the best decision.

Everyone also conveniently overlooked the fact that the "foul" given for that freekick was the most blatant dive of all time. The Uruguay defender that supposedly fouled the Ghana player wasn't even close enough to him to touch him if he tried, and the ref called it a foul against Uruguay. The game was rigged against Uruguay, and the Suarez handballing was no reflex, because the other defender in goal next to Suarez also tried to handball it out. Clearly they thought the refs were trying to make them lose and if the refs play dirty so they decided to play dirty too.
@crosscourttennis17963 жыл бұрын
How I've always seen it is that Suarez knew that it was a certain goal if he didn't stop the ball, he sacrificed himself so that Uruguay would have a chance. Obviously you're gonna hate Suarez for it but he knew the consequences of what he did and he took that risk for his national team.

I don't think Suarez did anything wrong. The rules aren't that you can't stop a goal with your hands if you're not the goalkeeper - it's that if you do so, you'll get sent off. He did so, and was sent off. He had the presence of mind that none of his other teammates had - to use his hands in a last-ditch effort to keep it out. If he had done a violent tackle or something, I'd be pissed, but for this, I think if anything it's commendable. Again, how many players would have the same presence of mind?

I got into football through that world cup and thought that all football matches sounded like that I wasn't allowed to watch many games because I was 9 and lived in Japan and the games were on too late, but the first ever match of football I saw was our country losing to the Netherlands, so I got angry at those two bad bald man Sneyder and Robben

as a South African, I remember watching this game live. What disgusted me more was Suarez celebrating after Ghana missed the penalty

Suarez made a huge sacrifice for his side.

The referees were definitely on Ghana's side, that last minute free kick was a very clear dive. I think that Suarez' handball and Abreu's penalty were some well deserved justice.

Thank you! Finally someone that actually watched the game with their eyes open. Blatant cheating from FIFA trying to push an African team to semi finals for the 1st time at a tournament hosted by African nation. The referees heavily influenced this game in Ghana's favour. Uruguay come to spoil the party always, that's why FIFA hates Uruguay. Example, 1950 world cup in Brazil against the hosts, several times against Argentina in Argentina in Copa Americas, Ghana knockout in 2010 world cup.

@@jamiecripps2887 they did the same in the semifinal against the Netherlands, FIFA was desperate to get Uruguay out of the world cup. Turns out a world cup final with a relatively unknown south american country isn't as marketable

@@tuffmbassador522 i know the memory stings a bit but i recommend anyone to re-watch both matches and just see how many bad calls are given against uruguay,,,,just from the ghana match the one of the top of my head is the hard foul vs Fuchile not even getting a call and the foul vs Lodero theat leaves up to the free kick,,,,and Netherlands the first gol comes off of a foul that is not called and the cavani gol offside is ridiculous (i think someone made a video of all of the bad calls in that match)

My fonderst memory of 2010 WC is most definitely Iniesta's goal in the final. Puyol's winner against Germany in the semis is a close second.

Why didn't you show the phantom foul that led to free kick right beforehand "the incident"? Yeah right,...no others but South American media ever points that out. Meaning; had that never been whistled ,who knows...fates may have favored Ghana.

What?! Suárez is a hero! When you use a last resource, like fouling the striker when is alone in front of the goalkeeper, you normally get get punished. Like Chiellini in the 2021 Euro's final: he grab Saka's tshirt and got a yellow card. Suárez grab the ball with his hands, stopping a clear goal chance, he got a red card and the other team got a penalty. Ghana didn't have balls and that's the end of the story.
