Michael Crichton’s book The Lost World has an awesome Jurassic Park dinosaur scene that needs to be in the movies as soon as possible. It involves a scary attack on Isla Sorna featuring camouflaging Carnotaurus animals that was kind of put into Jurassic World with the Indominus Rex but I think we could have something much more faithful to the novel!

If they ever continue this franchise, they really need to bring back the horror and suspense atmosphere. The Camouflage Carnotaurus scene in the second novel is easily one of the best sequences in the books.

@@johnwharton7094 please no. Unless they retcon Dominion out of the canon, they should let the franchise rest for another decade or so. Even the fanbase hasn't been the same after that atrocity of a movie. And we still need a proper "Endgame" for the JP franchise, because JWD failed miserably at it

00:34, it can camouflage! I read the book, and the scene is pretty terrifying where Levine and Sarah spot 2 Carnotaurus underneath the moonlight walking towards them, where they blend into the background, but the fence was keeping them safe, for the moment.

The idea of dinosaurs having new abilities based off characteristics from real life animals due to gene splicing has always been the coolest thing to me. It's like they're Franken-saurs. Aside from the hybrids (ugh), it feels like we don't get much creativity from that side of the franchise anymore.
@Bagelgeuse

I agree. JP's genetic modification of the dinosaurs is literally the perfect catalyst for unique and memorable dinosaur encounters. Unfortunately, the only thing that came from it are lazy monster designs that somehow make DINOSAURS look boring.

My favorite moment from the books! You know you've succeeded at being scary when velociraptors and a t.rex (yeah at one point in the book a t.rex was afraid of them) won't go near your territory.

Huh, funny how the relationship between the T.rex and Carnotaurs went to sh*t in Fallen Kingdom. Such an awesome dinosaur in both real life and TLW novel is makes its long-awaited debut in the movies... Only to be Rexy's personal punching bag.

This just solidifies my idea that Universal should make a TV series based on the first two books. It’s familiar enough for people to be interested but different enough to warrant it. Similar to what The Last Of Us is doing.

Yeah I agree; it’s best they just adapt the books to a series as closely as possible. The material is great, just work on the effects and give us some great shots. No need to write another bad Jurassic plot if they stick to the source.

The JP novels had this way of making dinosaurs seem alien while keeping them reasonably animal-like that the movies never really replicated. The closest would've been the original JP raptors. The way the first one lifted Jophery clear off of the ground and the way everyone spoke of them, as well as their methodical and suspenseful way of hunting the main characters is something that didn't really clash with the idea of them being mistreated animals ( even if they were portrayed in a villainous way). I feel this sort of thing needs to be implemented more if the franchise is to continue.
@Princess_Celestia_
@Princess_Celestia_ Жыл бұрын
"didn't really clash with the idea of them being mistreated animals" Not sure where this "idea of them being mistreated" comes from, but all evidence suggests that they were the way they were because of the influence of The Big One who had been modified to be more intelligent and more aggressive resulting in her killing all but 2 of the other raptors and then hunting down the humans because she enjoyed it. In a way, she was the prototype to the indominus rex.

The chameleon carnos were awesome! I loved how they were used in the chapter detailing Levine arriving on the island. Another fantastic scene I would like to see done eventually is the Raptor chase sequence, with Arby in the cage, a raptor pack rolling him away, and Kelly riding behind Sarah, trying to trank the raptor who snagged the key to the cage. The Lost World was fantastic.

Came right when I got notified Klayton! The Camouflage Carnotaurus scene from The Lost World novel is definitely a favorite of mine! Not so much scary and gore but definitely an awesome suspense scene! The Indominus Rex scene was a good tribute to the camouflaging dinosaurs from the books but we definitely need a full suspense scene in some media like this one if there is future Jurassic projects!

Honestly, I'd love to see a high budget HBO style series of the Jurassic Park books. This gives plenty of time to develop a lot of the story and characters while allowing time for suspense for scenes to build up. One of my favourite scenes from the first book is the young T Rex Hunting and killing Ed Regis. The way it plays with him before killing him is very chilling.

Camp Creatacous heavily used to Carno as a main antagonist for the kids, that would've been a great opportunity to show off the camouflage abilities, but since it coincided with Jurassic World and the Indo rex, I get why they didn't, but it still would have been a great opportunity to recreate that scene

This scene from the novel you are talking about is actually my personal favourite scene in the book because I love the feeling of creepiness at abandoned worker village were the main characters are watching out for something. And that something is the camouflage Carnosaurs. In my opinion, I personally wish scene was done in the movies (mostly in the second movie of it was adapted well) and sadly it not which would be a awesome scene to watch as you can feel not only the creepiness, but the tents feeling when watching the scene.

That camouflage Carno scene in The Lost World had me on the edge of my seat when I first read it. It's too bad we didn't get it in the movie. This is a fun and thrilling scene to read in the novel and is worth adapting into a Jurassic Park movie or TV adaptation program.I think more of Michael Crichton's ideas should be shown, including this version of the Carnotaurus. It stands out a lot in the arcade game and is creepy and fun to encounter. The light switching on and off is a clever idea to reveal the Carnotaurus' and still keep them primarily hidden in the night background and a way for the human characters to survive the encounter.

When I got to the Carnotaurus section, I legitimately felt worried for Thorne. It’s incredibly suspenseful and you’re left wondering if the two Carnotaurus will eventually kill him or if Sarah and Levine will manage to rescue him. Interesting to note that Carnotaurus here are described as ‘not particularly fast or active.’ when it was actually a fast runner. But then again, they’re specifically camouflaged Carnotaurus that are essentially ambushers. I’d assume that they were originally like their real life counterparts but some versions were given a camouflaging ability and learned to hunt with that. Or I’m just reading too much into this and being completely wrong.

Honestly, it could be terrifying brought to the world of cinema. But it would take an insane attention to detail to really pull off the suspense that Crichton brought with his words, of the reveal with the lights and the gradual shift as they adjusted their camouflage, and the survivors fighting off panic and desperatly figure out how to keep them in sight. Translated into the visual medium that is film however, it could easily devolve into unintentionally goofy, where some scary carnivore chameleon dinos show up, then are quickly spooked off by waving flashlights at them.
