What You Need to Know About Tiger Woods Old Golf Swing. Tiger Woods old golf swing is the one that most of us remember when he was at the peak of his golf career. Even with all of his success, Tiger Woods early 2000s era golf swing caused a great deal of pain and stress on his body that would later cause him to suffer intense injuries to his knees - taking him out of action for a long period of time. Considering that most golfers try to copy Tiger Woods old golf swing, you need to know how it affects your body too.

I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

Tx Tom.. you are correct, it appears that Tiger has got his swing more on plane and has a better hip turn. (Even though the camera angle on new swing sort of hides it). He's even slightly weakened his left hand grip. I'm almost 63 and was taught by Homer Sead in Ft Lauderdale in 1965. I was taught to post hard into my left leg. I hit the ball along way...played high school and college golf and worked as a assist-pro for several years in Charleston, SC with dreams of playing the tour. I was an average putter and had to find a day job. We'll after right hip replacement and left knee replacement (do to snapping my left knee) I now exaggerate my lower hips and legs and can play still play at a high level with these gamblers in Charlotte. A good trick is to weaken my left had to maintain consistency. sorry for the long respons, but I appreciate your insight and wish I had learned this stuff as a kid, and could of kept my two body parts....lol. Have great a Holiday! Ken

Hi Ken, I'm glad you enjoyed this video and I appreciate your comment! You are correct in that the camera angle on Tiger's modern-day swing was not great and did not fully capture the extent of his hip turn and straightening right leg. Just last week I released a private video for my channel members and online school students featuring Tiger's current swing and the way he is now "stacked" over the ball. This is the face-on video clip I used in that analysis - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXi3fIqViseoqa8 - and it clearly shows the extent of the bending of his lead knee and straightening of the trail knee. I wish you continued success in beating those Charlotte gamblers... Thanks again and have a Blessed Christmas and holiday season!! Tom

Spot on Tom! Keep up the good work!! Since watching your videos I’ve gotten better consistency and length and shooting lower scores! My handi has come down from a 10 to a 6! Regarding the skeptics that are commenting, they must not be aware of how his old swing caused many injuries and how he HAD to retool it to cause LESS stress on the back etc. It’s common knowledge to anyone that follows TW career and golf!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
That's some fabulous game improvement there, @Justin Case - Well done!!! I don't concern myself much with skeptics and naysayers. I may have some fun responding to them periodically, but that's really all it is to me - fun. I mean seriously - isn't it interesting and perhaps even a bit disturbing with regard to just how far some folks will go - and how vehemently polarized they are - when it comes to defending the particular golf swing methodology they happen to embrace, and how their way is the only correct way and everything else is evil sorcery and wrong?? After all, we're not talking life and death here; it's about a means of propelling a little ball with a stick towards a target! The Stack and Tilt swing model is rooted in physics and geometry, and until those principles and equations are modified by God I'll take comfort in my confidence that it represents an optimal set of motions for accomplishing this task. Beyond my own personal experience, when I look at the overwhelmingly favorable comments from folks across the globe of all shapes, sizes, ages, and handicaps who are benefiting and improving from this instruction and thus enjoying the game more, that confirms everything I need to know! And yes - anyone with an iota of a clue knows that Tiger's multiple back and knee surgeries are the result of many years of that repetitive freakish move - one that was built upon creating a solidly resistant lower body, torquing the back and shoulders, and violently unsnapping the "rubber band" against a firm left leg. The way he's swinging now would have likely served him very well back then without the mounting physiological stress that led to the breakdown of his body. Though hindsight is 2020, he may well have eclipsed Jack's record by now and probably garnered a Grand Slam (in addition to the "Tiger Slam") at some point, and he would have been spry enough to outrun an enrage Elin as well.....😂 Anyway, thanks for your comment and support, keep up the great work, and have a blessed Christmas and holiday season!! I am so glad I found this style of a swing when I picked up golf a few months ago before I got too much other stuff into my head. The swing thoughts are so simple, keep hands in, shoulder down and hammer the club into the ball. It's so repeatable, my back doesn't kill me after a session like it did the first few times doing the lift + drop into the slot style swing.

Golf Digest called this (the difference between Tiger's shoulders and his hips) "the 'X' Factor", the greater the angle between shoulders & hips = more power. And who wants all the back surgeries Tiger Woods has had? It hurts just watching his old swing 😲 Ow! His arm position at the top of his backswing is more "Saguto Golf" now ... along his shoulder line. Probably watches your KZbin videos 👍🏻 Great stuff, Tom

I felt the stress on my body in just those few swings I made trying to mimic the Tiger move of yesteryear, Mike!! Yeah - I'm sure Tiger watches this channel under a clandestine name...😆 Seriously, his modern-day swing is quite body-friendly and should serve quite him well for many years to come. I followed Tiger on the course for several holes at the 2018 Players Championship, and I turned to my dad right then and there and said "T-dubs" would back in the winner's circle again soon with that swing. Glad you enjoyed the video. Stay warm up there, and have a Blessed Christmas!! Tom

Saw Tiger when he first came to the UK,I think it was 1998 at Wentworth.When he was at the top of his backswing I have never seen a golfer turn their shoulders so much whilst keeping their hips almost still. Some of my mates did question how long he could swing like that, without causing a serious injury. Once this Covid is over I'm hoping to get out and use some of your tips and suggestions and improve my swing. Thanks Tom. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.

I think with his new swing he could still straighten that right knee more and it would help his back pain even more,he still has days where his back kills him this is probably why,he needs your Saguto swing if he wants on the senior tour in a few yearsnice video as always 👊
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
I do agree with your assessment, Justin, though in fairness the "new" Tiger's right knee does straighten a bit more than the camera angle in this video might suggest. Still, if he would forget about shifting weight into his trail side on the first part of the backswing and instead just keep it forward I think it would do wonders for the body-friendliness of his swing and thus the longevity of his playing career. Thanks and Stay Crispy! Tom

Tom when I load my energy into the right foot (instep) in my back swing I seem to sway a lot less and hit cleaner shots but I’m wary that this is like tiger 1 swing and relies more on timing. How can I try your technique of weight slightly forward, without swaying back? I seem to be getting the odd mis hit with that swing thought for some reason.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, There are no superfluous moves or motions in the swing method I teach, and I do consider any shift or sway in the trail side to be both unnecessary and a variable that must then be compensated for in order to achieve desirable impact and ball flight. Consistency usually suffers as a result. So here we start with our weight forward (55/45 generally, but up to 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. This video from my channel may offer up a thought or two for you in this regard: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4DbqH-Ci691gqc Beyond this, it is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards learning and owning this swing. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. The school's intuitive course layout greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm regularly adding new content. @@SagutoGolf do you teach your students to do trail side arm cracking of the whip with the flick of the trail wrist? I am asking you this because this is the exact move Hogan made in a tilted posture. Hogan knew by doing this he could never overtake his lead hand with the power of his three right hands and that his lead wrist becomes automatically bowed by the dynamically lagging of his club head.. Another words Hogan only appeared to be deliberately bowing his left wrist and leaning the shaft of his club at the optimal impact of club head to ball; but he did not. It was all simply done by a side arm cracking of the whip with a flick of the trail wrist. Would it work in Stack and Tilt? I believe it did for me; but because of the increase momentum of the head of the club my finish was a little different from your. Cheers

Not sure if that’s what he did nor is the reason for his back issues. Adam Scott’s swing under Butch was close to the Tiger 2000 swing and he has no back issues.

His old swing is the SOLE reason he blew out his knee
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
If that were indeed the case, RayDon, then why would Tiger have not returned to the same swing that brought him so much success previously? It's plainly and simply that his broken body could not handle it because his body was broken as a result of it. Adam Scott's flowing swing differs dramatically from Tiger's resist/torque/unsnap move of yesteryear. While on the topic of Aussie pros, Jason Day modeled TW's resistance-driven swing of yesteryear, and already at his young age his back - and perhaps his career longevity - are paying the price. Cheers, Tom

Look at the feet on the left and right. Clearly shows the camera isn’t on the same line. Therefore all of the lines you’re using to compare the old swing to the new swing are useless.
@SagutoGolf

Not useless. One can conclude that since the shaft is shallower (and lower) at P6, Tiger is approaching the ball more from the inside.

@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, bub. The angle on the old TW swing pretty much matches the foot line. Actually, had the camera angle on the new swing been the same, the differences in knee flex would have been considerably more pronounced with his trail leg near full extension at the finish of the backswing. Alas, that was the best DTL angle I had access to on Tiger's present-day swing. Regardless, the lesson conveyed in this video does not change; it's completely your call as to whether or not you elect to learn from it. Cheers, Tom

Interesting: Ask Tiger about the _"illusion"_ of his multiple back and knee surgeries that were directly caused by his swing of yesteryear. Also interesting: He was able to come back from all that to once again perform at the highest level - including wins at the 2018 Tour Championship and 2019 Masters - by building a swing that does not rely on torquing and snapping his broken body. Funny how many elements of his new swing mimic what is taught in Stack and Tilt, but again it's all apparently just an illusion. And now for my next trick......
