A nice touch about the writing in your videos is your subtle sense of humor. It really adds to the digestibility of your content. Keep it up!

This is a great complementary video to Leon Massey's overview of Fighting Game timers. Got a sub from me. Keep it up.

@E D I like VF's 3 Round, 45Secs since the matches can end pretty quick based off particular reads and you're generally encouraged to fight and not run away as there's anti back dash tech. Don't forget the ringouts. Tekken has a lot of dancing because of the backdash cancels that can negate particular mix-ups. Also, no ring outs, so, that's another thing but wall bounds sorta did change that up a bit. Though, most 3D FGs are like this. SC being 5 seconds longer than VF and DoA being 60 like Tek but they all use 3 rounds. Stages are bigger in DoA and TK so, there's wiggle room for calculated comebacks. Also, those two don't have Ring outs unlike VF/SC. So, the quicker round reminds people to being weary and keep close to not get rung out.

I recently started trying to get into Killer Instinct and I asked myself that very question. I came to the conlcusion that while I do find KIs approach very interesting I always feel limited in various ways by their Round system. I personally find Tekkens to be the best, at least for this kind of Fighter. 3 Rounds to win, refreshed and fixed start at the middle of the stage and a new health bar making every round a new test of skill instead of being able to carry over the advantage one player may have due to a good previous round. I havent made my mind up about being able to move before a round, I do find it a little confusing but I see myself getting into it in the future. That being said Im not very experienced in 2D Fighters so maybe its just my lack of experience in that regard.

I really like that this video doesnt have a really grand message. It really was just exploring round systems. Felt nice and calm.

I greatly prefer games with pre and between round movement like Melty Blood, Skullgirls 1v1, Vampire Savior, etc SG allowing some actions other than just movement between rounds in 1v1 is something I'd like to see more of too (picking up Beowulf's chair, returning Fortune's head)

DoA and Tekken 4 did this too You can kinda psyche people out.

3 rounds for information gathering makes sense because there's always some people that play to 3 rounds in anime FGs since there's more to absorb. It's usually done in player match between people that are playing for the first time.

I know that this is about rounds in terms of how it affects competitive play, but i always thought that story and arcade modes in fighting games could really benefit from changing the amount of rounds depending on the fight. Is the fight supposed to be a dramatic battle to serve as the climax of the story? Give it 4 rounds to help it feel like a long drawn out brawl. You want to emphasize that a character is being ambushed and was caught off guard? One round. Get good or get fucked.
