My prediction has always been that Gon already died. Because when Alluka power is used on him, they wish that he goes back to normal. But the vow he made was too powerful. So instead of removing the vow, she just kills him and brings him back to life, effectively “resetting him back to normal”. That would also explain why he lost his nen, but Ging says he could get it back. Because instead cured, Gon was actually “reset”. And this time nen won’t come as easy to him, but because of this, his nen and hatsu are wayyy stronger because he has to work harder and use it smarter. Which would effectively change his whole character and give us a new protagonist.

Given the current story, the only main character death that would make sense is that of Kurapika. It seems to me that Gon’s arc should be finding his purpose as a hunter. Furthermore, Gon dying would not have as great of an impact given that he’s already had a close brush with death in Chimera Ant Arc.

I think he's a little more cruel with Kurapika, because Gon gets arm injuries in place of dying, Kurapika is basically forced to do things he REALLY doesn't want to in order to achieve his goal of returning the Kurta Eyes. Like, his soul is steadily dying because he can't let go of the past, and he can only do things like protect the wee baby prince to keep what's left of his humanity.

It would be crazy if Gon's next nen teacher was hisoka. Who would slowely groom gon into the ultimate prey or challenge. Taking the time to refine the attributes of Gon he would find most entertaining. Though Gon has been reset it doesn't mean he has lost any of his potential. The training and lessons would also be more brutal and sadistic to engrain rational fear and consequences into gon by breaking him down both physically and mentally. The culmination of his apprenticeship being to kill hisoka before hisoka's lessons kill gon or worse.

he kind of story I've grown to love over the years, more then the standard one where we follow one main character all thrugh the story, is one where there is an overarching story, maybe even multiple ones, but the main character changes every so often, so a new one takes the spot for each part, very much akin to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Although I did enjoy this format long before I knew of JoJo or had even watched it. If you are familiar with games like World or Warcraft, or Elder Scrolls, this is what I mean. Where it's one overarching story, with many different chapters and side stories, and the main character changes each time. Sometimes an older character may show up once again, but since they are no longer the main character, they can get killed off if needed. I wish more stories like these would be made.

funnily enough, i think keeping a character like gon alive in the world of hxh is a more difficult challenge than killing him off. losing a protagonist is sad/devestating, but then that character merely becomes a memory and doesnt have to engage in any more situations, kind of giving the author an out. i think togashi revels in the challenge. that said, gon should at the very least have some visible battle scars from his stint on "active duty"

Netero was just an OP side character and Kite had no significance until Chimera ant arc. Yes, Hisoka was killed but not KILLED OFF. Trust me, Togashi isn't as brutal as we want to believe. And the fact that he told us beforehand that Kurapika will die shows he's not ruthless. The hallmark of a cold-ass writer is his willingness to kill off main characters because of the confident in his ability to create new and LIKABLE characters. I'm 100% sure of Togashi's creativity, but like 98% of writers, he's not confident enough to let go of his beloved characters. He's not different from the rest, trust me.

Gon could start being an entirely different person after the chimera ant arc I mean having his nen stripped and all the the things that happened to him in that arc could've drastically changed him and what better way to show that he's changed in someway than to change his *nen affinity* I mean it would be quite interesting like making gon into a specialist based of his recent behavior of being independent now which specialist are known to be (leaving killua, doing his own things and having contact with his father who he himself is doing his own things) therefore giving togashi more creative room to do whatever he wants with gon I mean its not impossible for gon to become a specialist his father is one and his nen was stripped away and it'll be interesting to see cause enhancers has the least chance of becoming a specialist which no one in the manga has yet to do but with this change you can make gon have new goals, new abilities and potentially grow up with his father figure; ging finally being around and gon can become more mature and become a totally different person/character cause he's still a kid growing up, many people that have grown up are not exactly the same character as they were as kids cause of their experiences and hunters are known to be selfish creatures so gon can easily get new goals or selfish desires etc.

The way Gon was healed wasn't just plot armor and convenient. If you look at the Zoldycks family dynamics you realize he had been preparing that for a long time. My prediction for the story arcs of the key HxH characters: The phantom troupe with the exception of Machi will die in the black whale. They will be killed off by hisoka and the mafia and kurapika, hisoka will kill off most of them while the mafia will finish off one or two of them. Kurapika will most likely face off against nobunaga, this makes sense because nobunaga already wants to kill kurapika for killing uvogin and it is my personal theory that the chopped of head of huapikas friend was carried out by nobunaga because of his sword. This will come in play during their battle. I feel like kurapikas character arc will be that he will finally let go of his thirst of revenge and come to terms with things after finally getting his hands on the last of his clans eyes. He will either die finally having had his peace or togashi will keep him alive. I don’t think his character arc will end tragically reguardless of dark togashis writing tends to be. Additionally Hisoka will survive the black whale. It just doesn’t make sense for him to die on the ship narratively , he’s always been this neutral evil who does whatever he wants and often gets the last laugh. I just don’t see anyone on the black whale killing him and having it tie up narratively. Going back to the phantom troupe, I think they will die because they just seem like they’ve been written as these originally innocent kids who where driven to the dark side, and have gone in to deep to the point where it will only be a matter of time before their luck runs out and just like they’ve massacred and killed unjustly, they themselves will meet the same fate. At the hands of hisoka, who is just evil for the sake of it, the mafia, who they made an enemy of during the yorknew city, and kurapika, who seeks revenge for his clan. Basically it would just be the brunt of their misdeeds finally catching up to them. Now moving on, I feel like hisoka will die in the future of this story, and he will be finished off by Gon with the fight to the death that was promised between them both at heavens arena. It just makes sense, hisoka is a neutral evil who just is looking for the next best thing, always thirsting for that ultimate fight and will do anything to get it. Gon is written to be a shonen protagonist who is the ultimate good and represents the ideal good in the story, sure he was scarred and changed permanently by kites death, but I don’t think it’s in a way that would completely flip the dna of his character. He is still the good guy, just more sobered up to match with the more dark writing togashi transitioned the hxh story to. I think hisoka will meet his match with gon, get that ultimate battle and be put away and I also think this will happen during the arc (I’m assuming will happen) with gyro who has been foreshadowed to just be this straight up evil force, and it will ultimately be gon coming out of his retirement to put him down. I don’t know about killuas or leorios arcs I don’t think either of them will die but I also currently have no thoughts for them

One of my pet peeves is people using the expression "deus ex machina" incorrectly. It is a term that comes from greek theater and it describes the practice that super natural entities would not enter the stage normally, but rather be wheeled in on a wagon or lowered with a pulley or something along those lines. It does NOT mean "divine intervention" or "plot contrivance" or " McGuffin". This is something that you only find in nerd culture and people keep copying it over and over. But you have history with theater and you shouldn't perpetuate this!

This may be quite random but I never noticed until this video that they reversed the color of gidos tops and his robe, the older 90s run had red and yellow tops with gido being mostly black/grey. lol I wonder if that was done to make him standout more against the darker backgrounds

To this day I am always incredibly sad when people get so intensely hyped when Gon throws everything away against Pitou.. It is a sad moment where a young boy deals with grief in perhaps THE worst way possible, by giving into blind rage and throwing away everything. It has always been such a sad moment for me, and I'm sad to see that so many people see it as a triumph or a win when it is decidedly not.

Watching the anime I didn’t really feel any tension because I know he can’t die. So even in situations where it would seem doomed for Gon. You know he’ll get out of it somehow. There are some incredibly well done emotional moments, but the stakes never hit.

There is a rumor that Togashi wanted to kill Yusuke during the fight against Sensui (Yu Yu Hakusho) and the others would defeat the antagonist (Sensui) but Shonen Jump didn't approve the idea and then he came with the resurrection idea on that other manga. Probably in Hunter Hunter he has more liberty.

It's like in Prison Break it's clearly written with the intention of Michael Scofield getting caught. Writing yourself into difficult to seemingly impossible corners and then writing yourself out convincingly is the hallmark of masterful writing
