My church uses the ESV but I prefer the NKJV.. For one thing, they read very similarly to one another already, so I don’t feel like I’m really gaining any extra incite by reading the same passage in both versions. Secondly, I prefer the textual notes that the NKJV offers. I like having the TR, critical test, and majority text at my fingertips and the NKJV provides that.

If your NKJV is from Thomas Nelson, then I totally get it. They do a great job pointing out textual variations in the footnotes. They don’t tell you which variant you have to accept; they’re just informing the reader. They’re the best of the Bible publishers that I’ve seen.

I love the NKJV. Though I am AG, every school I went to was KJV only and I have the upmost respect and admiration for that one. My mom uses the NKJV (you rebound a lovely one for her earlier this year) and I keep coming back to that translation. This year, I’ve done all my reading and personal devotion in the NLT for the first time and loved it. But for study, I plan to go back to the NKJV after several years of trying to fall for the ESV. It just hasn’t stuck with me. I’d also recommend the MEV to you. As you know, you recently rebound an MEV Fire Bible for me. I’ve only read it a bit so far, but I plan to read through it in its entirety soon. Take care, my friend and God bless!

Isn't the TR essentially 'a' critical text as well, just from the past? Anyway, NKJV is great and I've been enjoying it anew lately. How would you rate the paper/ghosting in this edition? Thanks for sharing!
@NeedAVacay-y5u
@NeedAVacay-y5u Ай бұрын
Not really. Not exactly. The TR philosophy was not refined from the manuscripts they had. They simply didn't have the wealth of information we have now and just had to go with the reading they had. You'll notice that TR is 98% similar to the majority text. The ESVs tyndale house Greek New Testament adopts the similar approach in taking the majority of readings in older manuscripts. They just cut off the data to certain period to make sure they're using the majority of readings from only a couple centuries after Jesus. However the critical text behind most other Bibles is different trying to get to the heart of the oldest readings or even reconstruction of readings. So I would say the the critical text that specifically is used by the ESV has the best philosophy. While the critical text of most other Bibles is lacking. I don't believe we ever lost a single reading of the Bible they're over 100 verses that are not found in any manuscript in the critical text. This is because they've hodgepodged these verses together from all multiple readings. This doesn't make much sense honestly.

Thanks for the video. I do have a question. I have never read the NLT or the NIV. Is there a reason you would recommend one over the other. I would like to include another translation in my rotation. I just recently started the NKJV after only seriously reading the KJV. I do appreciate the NKJV. Thank you.

@nobodyspecial1852 2 ай бұрын
The NIV is clear and easy to read throughout and doesn't lose any rhetorical devices but the nuance is turned down. NLT is a bit simplified plus getting colloquialisms and measurements into contemporary/imperial format, does lose some rhetorical device effect and the nuance isn't as much in the interpretation of the reader but how it's written (translation bias). NIV can be bland but thorough enough, you can miss stuff in NLT but it's a better read.... they accomplish the same thing but I prefer the NIV. ESV, GWttN, NRSV, NASB 95/20.... go try anything that sounds good to you.

@martinlohne5128 Except that, it isn't wrong! Yes, there are different words used in the NKJV when compared to the KJV, and to the understanding of most by today's standards, it appears to change the meaning of some verses. But, it really doesn't. When putting things in proper context and looking at the original text and it's appropriate meaning, it actually appears that the NKJV is a more accurate translation. I don't have an issue with the KJV if that's what people want to use, but it really is archaic and a big problem today is that most people misunderstand it completely and try to defend their misunderstanding on false premise. The NKJV is a great and trustworthy translation.
@martinlohne5128
@martinlohne5128 Ай бұрын
@@caseyk6625 It's interesting that the same people who complain about the "archaic" English of the KJV are frequently the ones who yap about what the Hebrew and Greek say and what the original text says. That all boils down to we don't really know what God said. Here's something from a NKJV bible that I have. “In faithfulness to God and to our readers, it was deemed appropriate that all participating scholars sign a statement affirming their belief in the verbal and plenary inspiration of Scripture, and in the inerrancy of the original autographs.” That sounds pretty good, doesn't it? And it's not in archaic English! Here's the translation... In faithfulness to God and to our readers, it was deemed appropriate that all participating scholars sign a statement affirming their belief in the spoken and absolute inspiration of Scripture, and in the inerrancy of the original manuscript in the author’s own handwriting. NO ONE has ANY original manuscript in the author's own handwriting. Here's something in NKJV easy English. "Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready." And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints." Revelation 19:7-8 (NKJV). "Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints." Revelation 19:7-8 (KJV). In this passage the NKJV teaches righteousness by works which is what some believe. The KJV teaches righteousness by the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
