Same position as me, stage 2 golf r wagon and very tempted for a m3p in quicksilver but I don't like how US cars are more powerful than the Aussie and euro cars. It's still quick as when I test drove it, got to the demo limiter rapidly but still seems dodgy not getting the same power globally

They don't want you to find out how quickly the motor and brakes overheat. I remember seeing track review between non highland Model 3 performance vs NIO ET5 vs BYD Seal performance in China. While the Model 3 comprehensively beat the other two in terms of lap time, the brakes overheated way sooner than the other two cars. It overheated so quick without warning even took the reviewer by surprise and he almost crashed it.

Did he change the brake pads. The cars typically don't hardly use brakes in normal driving, the brake pads may be chosen for this purpose.

I bought one about a month ago and even on the street the brakes scared me a few times as it can get up to some crazy speeds but slowing down is another story so that will be one of the first upgrades i do to it , i found unplugged performance brake kits

They know the car won’t perform well on a track especially against a ioniq 5n . In saying that Tesla did a fantastic job on the price and as always the software is first class. By getting it under the luxury car tax and setting the price so low has allows it to be fbt exempt which is very smart of them. Hopefully we get the better batteries in the future that improve performance .

Yes, false advertising to get a sale. However, that is Musk for you. I can remember him saying In December 2015, that "complete autonomy" would be implemented by 2018. At the end of 2016, Tesla expected to demonstrate full autonomy by the end of 2017, and in April 2017, Musk predicted that in around two years, drivers would be able to sleep in their vehicle while it drives itself. Anyone still drinking that Tesla cool aid.

Just bought a Model 3. Have owned a couple of Audis (TT & S3), BMW 430i, Mercedes CLA 250, a bunch of Toyotas (Corolla, Prado), Ford Ranger, VW Golf & Tiguan 162, and 9 road bikes. The Tesla is unbelievably good. It is a sign of the future for sure. I’ll always have an electric car in the mix from this point on, alongside my Landcruiser.

I remember when Nissan would void warranties on the GTR if it was detected that owners had been using launch control and broke driveline parts. HSV didn't honour warranty if the car broke at a track, but this move from Tesla is pretty stupid considering it is only a road test, not a track day. Just test it 'as provided', if it looks bad that is their own fault.

I drive a Tesla and am a fan of the brand, but this sort of crap is just plain stupid. I don't understand the thinking at Tesla here. You can't control the way a car is perceived once it is available to the public. I'm betting it won't be long at all before someone will lend you their car for a proper test, bring it on - if the car has deficiencies, we should all know about it.

we tried to book a test drive of a Model 3 performance. Once of the consultants called and asked if we were going to buy one. We being naive told them, "no we are not thinking of buying one as we just bought model 3 RWD last year and considering the depriciation, it's not worth upgrading". Hence, he declined our Model 3 performance test drive. What a pity. Maybe we could have just said "Let's see.." and in the end could have told them "We didn't like it not worth upgrading"

IIt is pretty obvious that if you want to track this car you would need to upgrade the brakes or at least choose appropriate pads and brake fluid, so you can the lower the regen to stop the battery heating up to the point it degrades the performance. Given we get the LG battery which seems to inferior to the Panasonic the power is reduced over the US model. The Ioniq 5N will be a lot better on the track than the M3P but cost around $30,000 more.

Track Mode is the single worst thing you can do for Straight Line acceleration because it cools the battery down. Please do not test acceleration in Track Mode. Instead navigate to a Supercharger for about 8 minutes to heat the battery. That will give you optimal acceleration. If you test acceleration in Track Mode then you are doing it wrong.

No Tesla fan is going to complain about this. This is bizarre. The performance package literally has race seats and "actual brakes". The entire car has upgrades. On the other hand, track day is hard on any car, I don't think you can reasonably sell it after that. I would not want to buy a "new" car that has been to track day. This link was sent to me, a Tesla owner by a friend, a Tesla owner. At this point 3 of us are in WTAF mode.

On one hand, how great would it be to shove it up Tesla's PR that you worked around their North Korean ways of dictatorship. On the other hand, why give Tesla any airtime and promotion, with exception to gaining income through monetisation for yourselves (who are a great team I’ll add)? Then if you bag it out, they'll sue. Hope someone ponies up a car for the process if that's the way you'll go still, and if I had one, I'd be sure to put my hand up. But I'm not keen on changing forward/reverse on a screen so I'm out as a customer, amongst other odd quirks that is this Model 3 (shame).

You were doing so well in sticking to your morals in refusing to do the review until you asked for a viewer to supply one to you. You need to outright refuse to test another Tesla full stop. Car makers need to learn to treat reviewers better or suffer no sales as a result. Tesla wont lern anything now because youll end up reviewing it anyway and thus still plastering their name all over your channel which is all they need you to do.

I disagree Paul, if I were in your shoes I would go ahead and test the vehicle and constantly point out where and when the restrictions take place and effect your review. I'd make the point continually that Tesla won't give you the car to test that is available for sale. This is both dishonest marketing from Telsa and jounalists.

I did think about that. But we spend over $300k a year to hire a proving ground, spend an entire day filming and then there are logistics around collecting the car and editing. It’s not worth our time if I can’t produce a review that matches the rest of our content in terms of the testing we do.

I've tracked my 2022 performance alongside a new 2024 performance. While the 2024 did perform better in a straight line and higher speeds, the 2022 has better cornering. Which is quite a disappointing considering the superior suspension on the new model. We didn't experience any brake heating/fire issues, but they did get spongy after only 10 minutes of track time. Overall I'm actually quite disappointed with the performance on the 2024 model. More reasons not to upgrade. 😢

This may be shonky of Tesla, but at the same time to tell people not to buy a car that you haven't had a chance to review also shows a similar level of arrogance. You're not the only people who review cars that know what they are talking about. Every other review I've seen of the M3P is glowing, and rates it as the best value car in its class by a huge margin. Tesla may have to eat humble pie in regards to the brakes, we shall see. I have the new model 3 2024 rwd, my first EV... and I wouldn't go back to an ice car period

Good video, Paul. I imagine Tesla are overly cautious of people using this like a racing car (it isn't) and the brakes will overheat under heavier than normal/reasonable use. Then people will blow it up larger than it is. Tesla like to talk it up - as long as you don't take them up on it.
