It's more than that in the comics though too. His healing factor was insanely stronger with his regular bone skeleton, and his claws have spikes and stuff on them in some iterations. The skeleton really slowed him down and nerfed his healing since he has to constantly fight back against adamantium poisoning.

Just a note: In Logan, yes Adamantium acts like a poison in his body but it wasn't the reason he was weaker. It was the anti-mutant genes they were putting on food and water that was killing his mutant cells and everyone's. In D&W, Wolverine is even older than he was in Logan and he doesn't have weakness due to his Adamantium.

In fact when Logan is much older and is the final film when he dies, the first thing Logan talks about is how the food they have been eating for years kills off mutants and killed all of his freinds.

Enamel is the hardest tissue in the body, specifically designed to endure exposure to harsh environments and capable of cutting and withstand high stress. Additionally, enamel originates from the same embryological tissue as nails, claws, and talons. The decision to make Wolverine's claws out of bone likely stemmed from a lack of understanding of basic biological principles.

In the comics the adamantium is toxic as well, just enough to slightly restrain his mutation and slow his healing a bit. It never poses a large issue or causes his death though except I think one run where he lost his healing factor temporarily. @matoros4576

The metal skeleton wasn’t a weakness in Logan. I don’t understand where this misconception came from when the movie clearly states that it was CORN SYRUP that was the issue. They genetically engineered corn syrup to have a chemical that nerfs the mutant X gene chromosome that enables the genetic mutations in mutants. Therefore stifling their powers. Adamantium doesn’t rust. It doesn’t corrode. It’s indestructible. That’s the entire reason why Project X wanted Logan in the program. Him aging would only superficially effect it at worse, doing damn near nothing at best.

That's because in the comic? It was the gene suppressants in the food working in combination with his healing factor staving off the adamantium poisoning that caused his downfall. It weakened his healing factor enough it couldn't heal him from the poisoning whilst also healing his external injuries, until he succumbed to his wounds. In the comic? He comes back to life decades later after his body purges the suppressants and the heavy metal poisoning that built up inside his body.

I think the wolverine Japan series was one of the best famous comics. When wolverine takes on the silver samurai takes away his powers at the end of the movie no more animantium claws no more healing factor. Changed his life in Japan.

He didn't lose his healing factor at the end. The transfer process was halted. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to grow back his bone claws.

For the last time, in logan it was not that the healing factor was failing due to the adamantium and old age, is that the gene terapy that was going on in America due to the modified crops was suppressing his mutant gene, thus gradually rendering him more human. Wolverine in the comics and movies is now literally immortal thanks to his healing factor. If that remains the same he literally cannot die.

The movie literally had Wolverine refer to "putting this poison in me" while raising his adamantium claw. He sure seemed to think it was the adamantium and Dr Rice didn't dispute it. Maybe the mass doping played a part, but Wolverine may have had some concrete reason to suspect Adamantium like they compared a blood sample Jean took in X-Men (2000) to a sample taken closer to 2029 where she noted the blood levels of adamantium were steadily increasing. 2029 is almost as far from the year 2000 as the 1970s is from year 2000, so it would be about half way through the aitology of his Adamantium exposure. It does remove the gravitas of the story of Logan if all he needed to do to reverse his demise was go on a wholefoods diet. It's much more impactful if Stryker effectively killed him by slow poisoning.

@@Treblaine NO, now of course it was the adamantium, among his aging and dwindling healing factor that was killing him (cause comics aren't sience accurate, adamantium being near indestructible should not leave residuate in the body like lead or even iron or steel, but ok). IT IS LITERALLY STATED IN THE MOVIE THAT THE COMPANY IS "POISONING" THE FOOD. His healing factor can deal with adamantium just fine man. But what happens if it were to be slowly weakened? Logan happens.

@@Treblaine ok youtube decided to remove my previous comment but the gist of it was: in the movie the gene therapy is mentioned and it's what is been weakening the healing factor. Of course if the healing is weakened the adamantium poisoning will then start to be prevalent and affect logan, but adamantium alone can't end him with his normal healing factor.

It isn’t holding him back, while without it he’s faster, he’s not stronger physically, and while his healing is increased, he can still be killed by beheading. Ultimately an incredibly strong healing factor while also physically more capable, and impossible to behead, makes him far more dangerous, his claws can also cut through most things.

He can absolutely be beheaded with his adamantium skeleton, but you have to cut between the vertebrae, where there isn't adamantium. After all, it's only his bones that has adamantium, and our bones are held together with muscle.

Also, yes, he got way stronger physically when he got the adamantium skeleton because of the reason you cited. It's like training with weighted clothing (think Goku or Rock Lee).

I should point out that his extreme healing does have one serious benefit when paired with his insane weight. His strength is likely hundreds of times higher than it normally is. The reason the skeleton doesn’t seem to slow him down that much is because it simply doesn’t. His regeneration repairs his muscles just as fast as the break down meaning his strength is theoretically at the absolute peak of human conditioning. Not just world record level but far past that. So his agility shouldn’t be diminished by much if at all

So what he should do is keep the adamantium for a few centuries and THEN get rid of it once he has giga-muscles and become *even faster*. But no in a way you're right- metal swords and maces and axes work better than wooden ones not because the metal is stronger, but because its heavier and retains its edge better. While the latter wouldn't matter for wolverin, the former does. Because he has so much extra weight to throw around, his hits hit really fucking hard even if the total kinetic energy is still the same just because of how inertia works. Pair that with the fact that visibly (in the movies at least) his metal'd claws are definitely wayyyyyyy sharper than his bone ones were, and yeah I mean it is 100% the case that he is stronger with the metal ones. Not to mention that the adamantium bones are tougher, so he can't actually get decapitated or have severed limbs (at least not nearly as easily as bones could).

He wouldn't exactly die from drowning, but there isn't any way for him to regenerate through actively drowning either. Submerging him until he passes out and keeping him submerged permanently is one of the proposed ways of dealing with him and deadpool.

@@Whatsup_Abroadin one of the comics, he kills his son daken via drowning and he stayed dead. if you think about it, there’s nothing to heal when you drown as there’s just water in your lungs preventing you from taking in oxygen which leads your cells to die.

Well I haven't read the comics but I think that when he was young he had alot of chromosomes with the healing factor ability in it but as he got older in the movie Logan his chromosomes kept splitting to form new cells and since he had so many cells the healing factor was very strong in his prime

IT was that GMO foods that they gave to all the mutants to eat that made him weak , so he was fighting too many things at once. Then he (obviously ignored smelling anything weird he would have smelled it). Seems he already gave up on life, he could have grew his own food and hunted and been back to normal.

5:27 it’s actually due to the corn being altered to make it so mutant powers don’t work. After Logan’s healing was lessened due to the corn, he started getting poisoned by the adamantium.

Wolverine has been a hero of mine for a long time. I have a degenerative bone disorder. I'm nearly 60 and eventually every joint I have will need to be replaced. I've been in pain more or less constantly since I was ten. Now...imagine that I could regenerate most injuries, would never be sick, never break a bone, and would live longer, all for the tradeoff of being unable to swim well. Yeah...where do I sign? I don't like the claws...I don't need to use them.

9:07 I think that if say magneto could pull the adamantium from Logan's bones and say put it back but with more of a lining job to Logan's bones kinda like when ur making a building and u line the foundation with rebar before u put cement down bc if Logan had that instead of a full chrome job then that would give him less weight but re-enforce his bones bc like he said without the adamantium then he has to worry about broken bones and worrying about if his muscles and skeleton can withstand the pressure his superhero life puts him through but like also take the adamantium and coat his claws in them fully that way u have a wolverine who's healing factor isn't strained or held back but the metal poisoning him and u have a wolverine who's less heavy so more agility and stamina with the deadly strength and durability as well as indestructible claws that's how I'd write wolverines problems out of the story without making him super feral and animal-like

The healing factor could extend Logan's life a lot more, if it wasn't for the GMO corn that was developed by Transigen to stop further mutations in humans, as well as dismantle existing mutant DNA in currently living mutants. That's why Xavier developed a degenerative disease.

In the comic it was wolverine who killed all of the X-men. That's why they went back and forth with Xavier grabbing wolverine and stating, "What have you done?!" Until he finally remembers himself being the movie counterpart that did the deed instead. Wolverine still comes back to life in the comic after decades of being buried. Because, even though he apparently died? His healing factor did not. It was still slowly trying to purge the suppressants, the heavy metal poisoning from his adamantium, and all the external/internal wounds he received trying to save Laura and the kids. When it finally succeeded? It revived him.

So maybe the best compromise between having it and not would be something like, his spine and skull, along with everything below the elbow are covered in adamantium. I see some problems yes, but he won't be so heavy and the very important parts are covered. Maybe ribs too but starting to get a lot in there now

i think vibranium would be worse. it’s his skeleton that is bonded so all that kinetic energy would be released to his flesh as it’s the layer above the bones. black panther’s suit covers around his body and the energy releases outwards. now imagine if the metal is inside you and the energy gets released outwards

In one variant, Logan’s body mutated the adamantium to his advantage: it didn’t drastically affect his weight, and didn’t clog his bones; his body and bones adapted the metal to be what they naturally are (hollow and porous) just reinforced. The “hot claws” concept is the most moronic of all. If his healing factor remains intact, Logan could theoretically live for thousands of years while still being fairly youthful and vigorous.

Except if the structures that connect his claws to his forearms aren't indestructible he could rip the claws right out of his forearms when attempting to cut through something tough. Then if his forearms is indestructible he can rip it out of his elbow. Then if his elbow is indestructible he can rip his arm out of his shoulder socket...you see where this is going? It's that bad Holywood logic from artist types who clearly didn't take any science classes in high school. Like when a guy gets robotic arms and suddenly can pick up a car, well not if torso and legs aren't robotic too he won't otherwise they'll just crumble under the weight.

If Wolverine had the power to shapeshift parts of his body like a killing machine in the Prototype video games, he could be something more than adamantium.

Well if its just nails that's a different story. Nails aren't vascularized, so there's no blood flowing in or on them (though there is a vascularized layer underneath). Adamantium isn't poisonous to *touch*- its just toxic to have it inside your blood, which given that blood is made *inside* of bones makes it fairly obvious why wolvering was poisoned by it. All of his blood has to pass through a vascularized adamantium layer to get to the rest of his body

She also had a full body of adamantium like wolverine, but also had a healing factor too. Wolverines adamantium keeps him from becoming animalistic like sabretooth, it keeps him looking human, due to slightly suppressing his healing factor from the poisoning. That's the advantage of him having the poisoning. It's like deadpools healing factor. He needs his cancer constantly killing him to suppress his ungodly powerful healing factor. The skrull tried replicating his healing factor, but it was so powerful? They ended up exploding from their cells dividing too fast and they'd grow pustules that looked cancerous. They also did not take his cancer to suppress the healing factor. So, essentially if they don't have something to suppress their healing factors? Something bad tends to happen to their bodies in the future. Hence why deadpool jokingly refers to having no healing factor, but Super Cancer. Lol

I'm on the fence here myself regarding the with and the without of the adamantium skeleton, but I would like to bring something else up. Laura Kinney aka X-23 and then later taking on the mantle of Wolverine herself, is Wolverine's clone/"daughter" and inherited all of his powers, with the single variation being the arrangement of her claws. Unlike her "father", Laura, while still having six claws altogether, has only two claws that protrude from her fists while the remaining two each extend from Laura's feet. In the "Logan" film, Charlies Xavier attributed this detail to Laura's gender, comparing her to how a lioness is the better hunter. In both the film and the comics, Laura did _not_ have her entire skeleton laced with adamntium like Logan did; _only_ her claws were given adamantium, turning them from bone into sleek indestructible bladed claws This would mean Laura enjoys the advantage of indestructible claws while also retaining the potential of her agility, reflexes, and speed uninhibited by so much adamantium holding her back, and yes, it also means she is not as durable as Logan is Not to mention, becuz there is not nearly as much adamantium in her body as there is Logan's, Laura's healing factor isn't combating as much adamantium poisoning as Logan's is I would also point out that Deadpool's healing factor is held back by a slightly similar problem that Logan has; like Logan's healing factor constantly fights the adamantium poisoning, Wade's healing factor is fighting the cancer he was diagnosed with, allowing Wade to move unhibited by the terminal illness but becuz his factor constantly regenerates the cancer cells along with the healthy ones it's kind of a stalemate. As seeing in the second Deapool movie, Wade, after being fitted with an inhibitor collar, quickly began to succumb to his cancer with the collar canceling out his healing factor and most certainly would have died had the collar not been deactivated, at which point he sprung back up (even after getting his back snapped literally a moment earlier)

Nice comprehensive examination of Wolverine's physical attributes. Despite the fans seemingly not taking to the "beastial" Wolverine, I very much enjoyed the Larry Hama and Andy Kubert run, in which Logan lost the adamantium and his bone claws were first revealed. It was a very enjoyable run, though Kubert barely drew enough issues to be considered "series artist".

Movie Logan's healing factor was not beaten by Adamantium poisoning, it was made extremely clear in the movie that the cure that was placed into the food and water supply was causing his mutation to break down diminishing his healing ability. Logan assumes it's Adamantium poisoning. The Adamantium was never an issue until his healing was nerfed.

Canonically speaking, he wouldn't have pop his claws in WWII. He had repressed his memory of having them after killing his father and it wasn't until his bones where grafted with adamantium that they popped out. So the time he started using them as weapons would from around the late 60s to early 80s, so he would never have used them in any of the wars he participated in. Also, due to the adamantium bonding and his adaptive regeneration, he had gotten much stronger and faster than he was previously

Kyle Hill did a video on what if humans had metal skeletons, similar to Wolverine. I personally believe he's a good source for this, where a stronger skeleton allows you to build more muscle. Using this idea, Wolverine likely wouldn't lose much speed, if any, because he can get stronger. His bones can tolerate thicker, denser muscles, therefore he could be just as fast, just heavier than your average person. Also adamantium claws actually allow him to actually cut just about everything

because of his healing, what a lot of people dont realise is the adamantium made him incredibly strong. And I dont mean he has more weight to throw around, I mean his muscles are crazily enhanced not just because of mutation, but because of the fact he'd have torn them all when standing up with adamantium for the first time. When you add in super healing, any workout he does (like lifting a 300lb skeleton) will enhance his strength permanently.

Basically if he goes into the water conscious he can swim, if he goes in unconscious he'll sink. He has enough strength to swim 🏊 on the surface but not enough to swim up from the bottom of the water. He's heavier at the bottom than he is at the surface. In Xmen Origins he jumps out of the helicopter and bounces like a stone on the water then starts swimming. If he had sunk at any point in time, we'll let's just say the movie would have been a whole lot shorter.

Technically, he is killable. Blood is created in the long bones. Since his were coated with the metal, and it wasn't addressed to whether or not the epiphysis of the long bones were perforated to allow for newly formed blood cells (erythropoiesis) to enter into the bloodstream & body, he could technically be killed due to exsanguination

I think adamantium is better cause sure he heals slower but there will be less to heal and his adamantium makes him immune to head shots due to his brain being incased in adamantium and he can't be decapitated because any blade will be stuck on the bone and his claws and cut anything pretty much plus limb removal is impossible so any sword fight is way easier since any hit to the limb will be ineffective as the sword will be stuck on the skeleton

Good video, You made numerous valid point(s)!!! I thought Platelets are responsible for the clotting effect. Red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body. I’m not sure if bone marrow is responsible for making all blood cells or just certain types… so there’s that 😅 aren’t red blood cells are also made in the spleen?? So he’d still be good right?

【Sunglasses Pirates】My favorite is One Piece anime/manga, they who have eated a Devil Fruit becoming a power user much like in a same way as in Marvel universe (there is a very powerful magnetic man "Captain" Kid example) and eating the fruit is kinda like Devil's Bargain as you become a "hammer" as you lose your powers like a superman & are rendered immobile in water above the knee while salt water brings even more severe effect as you're said to be "cursed by the sea" for taking this Devil Fruit. Funny to see this water effect on the Wolverine, there is actually one main character Sanji who is a human artificially made mutant/cyborg who has healing factor, exoskeleton and enchanged speed & power who uses only fiery kicks

But a lot of people don't realize that when a person's bone is broken, it heals it comes back stronger. so I would imagine that Wolverine's bones, when they're broken when he doesn't have the Adam antium would do the exact same thing, but because he's getting them broken more frequently. They would keep coming back stronger and stronger and stronger. To the point where he would be more like doomsday and his bones would eventually get to the point where they're unbreakable. I would love to see the storyline that goes along that factor and see what Wolverine would have become if they had just left him alone and let his bones become stronger on their own.

God hearing the same WRONG thing,over and over is driving me nuts... Okay so first Logan does NOT die from adamantium poisoning naturally, his healing factor works all the time to counter that, BUT he starts aging and dying when his healing factor is less effective as its shown in Logan (2017) and that was because of the modified crops that were killing the X gene in mutants. the adamantium skeleton gives logan better resistance more strength and pretty much makes him immortal while also preventing his mutation to turn him into a beast but the cons of the adamantium are decreased agility due to the skeleton's weight and being Magneto's toy. In conclusion Logan will always be better off with the adamantium he was made for it.

In the Logan movie he was also taking pills to boost his healing during the war of mutants and at the time they have implemented drugs laced with chemicals that dull or can potentially completely negate there mutations which was fighting his healing facter as well and he still borderline had a strong healing factor the over toxicity of the drugs when he reach the crashing end of the drug left the toxins in his body before it could get rid of them before the temporary boost was over, even in the show he stops using them and u can see his healing get better over time (just not soon enough)

My headcannon remains that Logan wasn't actually dying because of adamantium poisoning, because why would a unbreakable super metal also break down into his system. If the metal is as strong as claimed, it would be inert. In order for it to poison him it would factually need to be breaking down at a molecular level and shedding metal elements into his blood. I find it makes far more sense that his healing factor was being diminished by the mutant cure they were putting in grain used to make all the whiskey he drinks, resulting in his diminished ability to produce blood due to the metal barrier. His healing factor allows him to somehow still produce blood despite the fact his bones are impervious, without the healing factor, he has no proof production and his blood will decay.

Not even a debate at all. Weapon X Wolverine is 100% an upgrade. With the adamantium he can cut and slash anything, he is a literal tank ( mitigate or block any major or massive damage with the adamantium) and his healing factor it's still really strong with the poisoning. Without the adamantium he is faster and more agile but fragile, his bone claws won't be able to cut anything and can break easily and being a mindless beast is as useless as it sounds.

I always thought Wolverine would be a more interesting character without the adamantiun and with a weaker healling factor. It would force him to dodge and block attacks, show his century old fighting experience. He would be faster, stealthier and above all, he would be able to face Magneto without the handycap of becoming a ragdoll under his powers. You could say his adamantium and healling factor makes him an avengers level character but let´s remember, Hawkeye and Black Widow are avengers and they are just humans with good trainning.

Can you elaborate? I've looked it up even comparing them in a rpg, they both had regeneration 8 . But I've also seen them talk about both of their healing attacking some conditions too aggressively, Wade's cancer, and Logan's factor is at a lower, more sustainable level because of the Adamantium poisoning. I don't remember how out of date this information is.

Super-sharp metal that can't be damaged is going to cut his flesh more cleanly and quickly than his bone claws would. Yes, the adamantium was poisoning him, but it wasn't why he got old and died. There was something in the food that was destroying mutants' powers, that's why he got old and died. If that food poisoning hadn't happened, he could theoretically have lived to be 1000 years old or older and still been fine.

Seems like the logical move would be swapping out his adamantium for vibranium. As long as it's not poisonous, and I don't think it is, he would absorb any heavy impacts and then release the energy back at bad guys. And the coating technique would probably be more precise, allowing for openings in his bones to allow better blood flow and access between his body and bone marrow.

Of course, the idea of bone durability limiting one's strength would apply to other superhumanly strong characters as well. So, for instance, Spiderman (who can canonically dead lift 40 tons) must have a skeleton comparable in strength to Wolverine's.

I felt wolverines feral state was an over correction of his mutant gene and healing ability, making sure it never went through the trauma again. I forgot who and why he gets the metal back later.

One thing always bothered me… When he got shot to the head with an adamantium bullet, then only the bone healed, right? So did he have a circle of just a bone without adamantium on his forehead from then? Kind of a “soft spot”? And he didn’t even remember it?

As to drowning: Why couldn't Logan drown? His cells heal themselves, but he's not magically immortal. He needs food, and oxygen. If he were drowned, his lungs could not bring oxygen into his body; his heart could not pump oxygen to his brain; his brain cells would eventually die. It might take longer than with an average person, but he's not "immortal," he has incredible powers of healing. There's a difference. You can't "heal" from a lack of oxygen. Frankly, he should be portrayed as eating pretty much constantly, because he must have such a high metabolism to keep up with all the healing his body does. Your cells cannot simply duplicate without the necessary building blocks. You can't build an infinite tower of legos without more legos; no matter how good a lego builder you are, or how fast: if you run out of legos, you cannot continue to build. Could his body "heal" itself into some form of instant-evolution (which is not how evolution works, not how his mutation works, but extrapolating "healing" to an extreme degree), allowing all the cells in his body to take in nutrients and oxygen directly from the water around him, even though human bodies are not designed to do that? Even filter-feeding organisms have to come up with creative ways of capturing the tiny bits of organic matter that float around in the oceans or lakes of the world. A large, multi-cellular organism, wearing clothes, with a metal-laced skeleton, lying on the bottom of the deep: how are nutrients going to reach his brain? How is oxygen going to reach his brain? Frankly, if he were dropped into Lake Superior, and he sunk to the bottom: his best bet would be to try to walk out. Maybe- maybe- his body would hold onto enough oxygen to allow him to walk along the bottom of the lake, until he could walk his way out. Lake Superior is no joke, though!! Ten thousand years of sediment; not exactly a solid rock bottom. And it's the deepest lake in the world, so good luck! Dropped into the ocean: the depths would crush him. Might not crush his skeleton, but would crush his muscles into jelly. His brain would be smushed inside his metal skull, just by the pressure. Being down there has nothing to do with how "strong" you are, but how adapted you are to that kind of pressure. Logan is strong, but his strength is of a human kind. He's not built like an angler fish or a blobfish or a vent worm. He'd be absolutely, completely, smushed. I think that, if Logan were dropped into a deep body of water like the ocean, or Lake Superior, or something like that: he would die. He would not lie there, awake and conscious, forever and ever, unable to die. No: His brain would cease to function, and he would lose consciousness, and he would die. If, as I said- the deepest ocean: absolute smush, before or after losing consciousness. Maybe- considering he's come back from nuclear blasts and such- if he were found and brought up to the surface, and his remains were given oxygen and some kind of nutrient bath or something, maybe whatever spark of life remained in them would regenerate, and he would come back to life, back to consciousness. It's all fantasy anyway, so anything's possible- as long as it serves the plot.

I think you maybe misread something. He weighs 300 with the adamantium. Not an additional 300. And considering that its about as well distributed as something can get on the human frame... Any slow down is likely balanced out by the added momentum the weight adds.

Would be cool if they just did selected parts like spine, skull and claws that’d be handy, then it protects the important parts and deadly parts (Maybe knuckles would be handy too)

I think that the animated show said as much that Logan never had the bone claws before the adamantium. They do say that after the stuff was peeled from his bones by Magneto does he become a brutish and stronger Wolverine with bone claws. But before he was using regular metal claws cause he did not have claws before I believe but then also there’s a story about Wolverine took part in WW2 with Captain America. Pulls out some ninja claws to climb some walls so that tells me he doesn’t have claws, not bone claws that become steel blades after the adamantium. How close in accuracy are the cartoon to their source materials, the comics.

im not sure which YTer it was may be Roanoke Gaming point is they compared Wolv & DP heal factors, Logan being natural cell devition and repair, While DP its cancerous regeneration, with his powers his whole body is a cancer cell that remembers its shape . it was an interesting theory anyways

I believe that having the metal skeleton is better as he is more durable, has stronger claws that can cut through most things and is sane because of it He may be losing a stronger healing factor and agility, but it is still really strong and he becomes stronger with the heavier weight, the lack of swimming and being magnetic is really the main downsides, because people can use big magnets to stop him
