its a literal plot point in the comic that the adamantium in his body was poisoning him but his healing factor was responsible for keeping it at bay. so in a movie where there was a drug to essentially neutralize mutants, his healing factors effectiveness was being reduced over time and the adamantium poisoning was starting to effect him.

@Dranzerofhell

The problem I have with addamantium poisoning is that it doesn't make sense. In the past, people with artificial joints suffered from poisoning over time because materials such as cobalt rubbed off. Titanium, on the other hand, is not toxic in itself and is very well tolerated by the body. Gold would be even better because it is basically chemically invulnerable. It would just wear off quickly because it is too soft. Addamantium is something that doesn't exist and is said to be virtually indestructible in the comics. So no abrasion caused by movement, no corrosion caused by chemical processes. Once installed it would not change. So how are pieces of it supposed to be deposited in the blood, leading to inflammatory reactions or organ failure? Not at all. And that's why addamantium poisoning is nonsense. It's also good that Magneto can influence it so easily, but that's another topic.
@richardduncan2954
@richardduncan2954 3 ай бұрын
@Dranzerofhell I actually never assumed it was deposited into his blood and more of his healing factor was damaged by the skeleton being cased in and stuck in place. In the comics this is the case where after he loses the adamantium skeleton he gets even stronger healing and slowly evolves and gets taller. The skeleton is one of the reasons he's so short in the comics. But like you said it's a made up metal and the movie and comics are separate and they have different rules so we can only actually guess.

Actually in the comics they explained that Wolverine's healing abilities are working around the clock 24/7 after having the metal grafted onto his skeleton. His body is having to constantly fight off the metal poisoning it causes. Which is why his daughter/clone wasn't given the full skeletal treatment just her claws were covered so that she was able to heal faster. She's more easily injured but she heals faster than Wolverine by a long shot. So it's a mix of both his age and healing abilities have been pushed to limit while also being slowly poisoned to death by his own skeleton.

As Logan (in the comics) was injected with Pure Adamantium, it does not react with his body in a normal fashion and *does not poison him* but it does retard his natural mutation that would see him ending up a smaller version of Sabertooth. We know this is exactly what happened as in the Fatal Attractions arc (also recently portrayed in X-Men '97), after Magneto ripped the Adamantium through his pores, he began to mutate rapidly. The Adamantium had been retarding his natural mutation since the Weapon X program. However, it also allowed him to center himself with the X-Men's help. He later fought an Adamantium laced Sabertooth for the Horseman of Death role so that Apocalypse would rebond the metal coating back onto all of his bones. Even at 5'3" and 300+ lbs with a very dense mass, you do not want to get lunged at by him, even before the claws get popped. His superhuman strength, speed, and stamina plus his drama tically boosted senses just add to his lethality.

Personally, i think it was a combination of the food, and his adamatium. As mentioned in other comments, the adamantium bonded to his skeleton, is meant to be incredibly toxic. It was one of the reasons he was chosen for the weapon x program, as his healing factor was able to compensate for the adamatium toxcicity, but it took a good portion of it to do so. In a couple of the comic off shoots, in one where he never got the adamatium, his healing factor actually caused more extreme mutations, and logan became more of a feral beast. In another where Logan is subjected to a similar effect as the control collar used in deadpool 2, the adamatium is killing him in a way similar to extreme radiation posioning. So, I think the x gene suppresant in the food, is lowering Logan's healing factor considerably, which is causing it to struggle to keep up with the adamatium toxicity. In turn, this is also causing his wounds to not heal as fast, andnas a result, his 197 years are also catching up with him TL:DR, i think its actually both combined.

It depends on the version of adamantium he has, as True Adamantium is said to be "virtually indistructible" which in turn would make it not poisonous. The poisoning from metals comes from small particles shaving of with time and building up in the body, but if the adamantium was perfect that wouldnt happen. Couple of points : comics does states that adamntium is toxic, but I like your theory. In Death of the Wolverine, Logan loses his healing factor and Mr Fantastic explains that it helped him carry his super heavy skeleton around. Must've been agony lifting an arm at that age with no healing factor. Finaly, in 1 comic, Magneto forcibly removes the adamantium, causing Wolvy to evolve further. The adamantium is actualy keeping his evolution in check and greatly reduces his healing factor, since it constantly fights the poisoning and damages caused by it's own weight. While the adamantium gave him a power boost, I'd argue he might've been better without it with time. Also, the bullet makes no sense to me. He gets domed every now and then and the brain grows back anyway, so having a bullet that can circumvent the skull changes nothing. Plus we know he can survive the poisoning.

In the comics adamantium, despite not rusting or anything, still causes metal poisoning. Logan's healing factor is constantly keeping this toxicity at bay. There was a brief period in the comics where his healing factor was shut down and he was at higher risk of metal poisoning, necessitating the use of drugs. His super healing also alchemically changed it into adamantium beta, which allows his bones to perform their regular internal function such as blood cell production. The film specifies that corn based foods (i.e damn near everything) are laced with a mutant suppressant. Old man Logan, the version of the character that this film is loosely based off of, did eventually die of old age, but his adamantium didn't seem to cause too many issues. Lastly, movie adamantium is more closely based off the ultimate comics, in which adamantium is not unbreakable, but simply has an insanely high durability. Whereas classic adamantium is truly unbreakable.

If you watch the movie closely, it gives you the answer. Adamantium is a havey metal like lead and is poisonous like lead. However wolverines healing factor keeps the poisoning at bay. Sometime in this movies history a bioweapon was released into the corn syrup, and some water supplies. This bioweapon killed some Mutants and the ones to stubborn to die, had their powers suppressed. With wolverines powers weakened, the Adamantium started poisoning his body. Also Roanoke, you should do ghouls from Fallout

Adamantium poisoning doesn't make sense brother if the metal is indestructible it doesn't break or corrode its just a studio decision to kill of the character, in the comics this isn't a thing they try to kill him by encasing him in adamantium and he broke out
@hathynhighley8548
@hathynhighley8548 3 ай бұрын
@Hlebka so it's not exactly like lead poisoning. I always understood it like this. Adamantium is toxic. Only those with high healing factors can have it in their body due to their body holding back the toxicity. With the gmo corn weakening his healing factor and causing him to age, the toxic metal is 'poisoning' him. So to me, their explanation makes sense. I also believe the video was about the movie and its world, not the comics. These are different universes and thus obey by different rules. In one Wolverine comic, it's stated that his healing factor was actually enhanced by the Adamantium, reduced when he later had the metal removed. The corn poisoning makes a lot more sense that way, as it would be the timely factor which lined up with his sudden aging. The one element of the movie they clearly didn't think through, though is bonding metal to a little girl's skeleton. I can't even imagine the issues she'd have as her body tried to grow up, with invulnerable metal binding her whole body from the inside.

They had an episode about this in Star Trek: The Next Generation. If I'm remembering correctly, it was a season 2 episode, because it featured Pulaski as the ship's doctor. It basically was about 2 sets of colonists who had each made a separate colony on a distant planet. One was a small group that had to resort to cloning to survive, because their original gene pool was not big or diverse enough to survive through regular procreation. After a few generations of cloning their originals this way, they ran into an issue where each new generation of clones was exhibiting more flaws (the show had a name for it, but I forget what it was) passed down from previous generations, which would mean that eventually, their clones would fail and die off unless they introduced new material to their gene pool. They initially hope to take some from the crew of the Enterprise, but in the end they settle of co-existence with the second group of colonists. I'm sure it's all pseudo science, but still, it just goes to show that they were already doing interesting TV/movie stories about the dangers of cloning, regardless of how 'realistic' these things would or could be in the future.

the problem is when you take the DNA sample used to clone the person is exactly how old the child being born would be. Say you take the DNA of a 70 year old person, that baby would still have gray hair, dementia, and all the same DNA related problems as the original subject. cloning uses the DNA at the time the sample is taken, not just reverting back to how hte DNA was when the original subject was born.

idk if you know but in the movie's timeline. Anti-mutant or mutant-cure is a thing and is present in some everyday foods, mainly corn syrup... which also happens to be one of the main sugar substitutes in beer, the drink wolverine drowns himself in. You're right in normal cases since his healing factor would overpower it but the slow degradation of his powers due to the mutant-cure is the main reason why. It makes even more since Essex, the company mentioned in the movie and in comics, is owned by Mr. Sinister. Also probably the reason why no mutants have been born in the last 25 years.

I've been pointing out that, according to the film, the food is killing Wolverine, not adamantium. It is explicitly stated that the food was developed to suppress or destroy mutanism in the wild. This is the first time, I've heard someone else point this out. I'm guessing the comics it was adamantium poisoning; hence, why people latch on to Logan's incorrect assumption of what is killing him. But it goes further. Likely, the food is what is causing Prof. X's brain to deteriorate. This, with other clues and comments, subtly implies that in one of Prof. X's first "episodes", he accidently killed most surviving mutants.

I'd love for you to cover more superhero content. Like Daredevil.

The strength of Logans regenerative properties revolved 100% around the type of story that is being told. Logan has regenerated from a single cell, while in other times becoming a zombie, or losing his hand completely. Sometimes a rapid recovery can make for an amazing set piece, while other times you need your hero to have some vulnerabilities.

As for the "why mutants existing is a bad thing" question... The TLDR is we're human and that's just what we do. If we'll hate someone for having darker skin, following a different god, or holding hands with someone of the same sex, of course we'll hate someone for having bone claws or laser eyes.

wtf is the point of doing a whole movie recap and stretching the video to 40 mins instead of just answering the question?

He didn't say "so this is what it feels like" in regards to death, instead he meant having a family, like Charles said

That's a good theory, one I never considered. Also appreciated all the car nerding, as I do that too.

Woo achievement unlocked! This was the first Roanoke video where I knew the answer to the topic prior to watching. After years of watching I measurably know more about biology and anglerfish!
