Hey ya'll! In this review I'll be showing you a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with the 3.0L Diesel Motor. Currently today it has 125,000 MILES and a Price of $10,990. Every time I show it to a customer and mention about the diesel motor they walk away from it. Do they just not know about Diesel Engines and how long they will continue to run for? Let me know your thoughts about this engine and why you think its still here on the car lot all these months later! P.S - The customer that stopped by the see it test drove the car with me and liked it, but did not end up buying it. Mainly due to the price and not wanting to finance it. He was more interested in making a cash offer for it.

Can´t go wrong with a Mercedes diesel. Chain driven cams.. There is no better diesel engines than Mercedes. Look out for oil cooler leaks (a gasket), bad injector seals and clogged crank case vents (make sure they are cleaned). Other than that, it´s a bomb proof engine!

Hi! Mines 2005 Mercedes OM642 just under 190 miles never had issues, but it gets expensive with maintenance at high miles at least in Australia. Great towing rig.

Well honestly pretty good. Here in the Midwest and this has the same engine as the sprinter vans had for the year. The Mercedes OM642 3.0l Turn the key wait like 5 seconds and turn the key. Have yet to have it not start. Also haven't tried to start in -25 f weather but have down to -2. Obviously use anti gel additive during winter. -> I am Not using a block heater or coolant heater. Probably would if our weather was more constant in the - I do use the block heater on the cummins

Hey I’m the former owner of two 2005 Jeep Liberty both being the 3.0 CRD. Had many issues with both. Plenty of torque and lots of power. Did a straight pipe and EGR delete on them. Ran into a lot of issues when I lifted them with the front CV axels. You cannot find parts for these in the U.S.

Hey hey this is misleading. You had SUSPENSION issues , not engine issues and that was the question. And u had suspension issues after taking the car out of its stock form.
@corashae2185

You can't find parts. Pretty reliable. But in America the production levels were low and not many made it to the market. I had many problems getting parts within reasonable time just viability. Had to cross references many parts and some shops refused to work on it flat out because they just don't see them often. But yes I didn't build a daily driver. I built a specific type of vehicle made for off road capability. Noted. But I didn't leave many bolts untouched and therefore gained an interactive understanding and experience that most wouldn't when owning and operating this particular vehicle. It's just insight.
@corashae2185

And how is this misleading? Do you own a parts warehouse somewhere and don't advertise your parts listings when I need a fpcv or icm? Or a ficm? Cause I've bought all three and had to get them used from ebay out of a junk yard in Ireland. And it wasn't cheap.

The Jeep Liberty never came with the Mercedes 3.0 V6 CRD, it came with the inferior VM Motori 2.8 I4, so in that case yes the 2.8 sold far less than any other diesel jeep and doesn’t have parts available. The 3.0 on the other hand is a Mercedes engine and was in numerous FCA vehicles

The video title is misleading.. BUT I will still give my input: As the current owner of a Gladiator EcoDiesel and previous owner of an 04 Grand Cherokee with the "truly bulletproof" 6 inline gas motor, and have had the pleasure of driving an 08 Grand Cherokee 3.0, and I can conclude this Jeep is just as good if not better than ANY Grand Cherokee ever made (as long as you have limited trim or better and 4x4) MOST IMPORTANT WARNING: The 4x4 will burn up the motor that engages it if you put a different size tire on it! In other words, DO NOT BUY IF YOU CANNOT Afford TO CHANGE ALL 4 TIRES AT ONCE or NEVER DO YOUR TIRE ROTATIONS! (Getting mud terrain or all terrain tires recommend even if you live in the city) The 4x4 system (Quadra-Drive II) FEELS as though your vehicle has instant front and rear automatic lockers that engage the second you need them.. it's such a good system it puts any other limited slip to shame because of how quick and seamless it engages. Sooo if you have everything from remote start, to navigation, heated seats, and dual climate control, then you literally have all the modern creature comforts AS WELL AS a Jeep that drives like a Mercedes.. Oh, and this motor is known to go 400k to 1millon+ miles with simple/minimal routine maintenance, AND is known to be the most fuel economic diesel of similar power specs. In other words, this is the type of jeep you can keep, work on yourself, and love to drive FOREVER!

Just a bit of Info: I had a 1997 4.0 straight six Cherokee which did 190K miles and never missed a beat. I changed it for a 04 Grand Cherokee with the same engine, and had to have the engine rebuilt at 80K miles. That engine used to be bullet proof but research here via our UK Jeep club revealed that Jeep made some changes to the engine in 1999 for USA emissions reasons, one being they changed the height of the Piston skirts to reduce cylinder friction. After 60 - 80K miles, the pistons start to 'tilt' and bits of skirt fall off into the sump. 2 of us here in the same town with the same fault, and lots of folk complaining about it on UK & USA jeep forums. Engine was rebuilt 3 years ago with older type pistons and has been great since. Be aware!

Picking my jeep 2006 3.0 CRD limited 215hp next week. Has 150,000 miles on the clock and have been told it has been looked after mechanically but will be inspecting this properly when I see it as I haven’t seen it in person yet. My dad had one when I was a kid same year, engine and specification and was fascinated by this car. The shear size and power was unreal as a passenger from stand still or at low speeds and my friends at the time couldn’t believe that this car could move as quickly as it did. One of my friends parents had a Land Rover Discovery 3 2.7TD at the time as well and always tried to say that land rovers were better, but this generation of Grand Cherokees were on par in my opinion and so much quicker, whilst maintaining similar MPG as the Discovery 3. I now can’t wait to feel that power as the driver now and will have a 4 hour journey back home so plenty of time to get used to it and get a feel for the car. Haven’t told my dad about the car. Will just rock up at his house and surprise him one day. He will think I’m insane but I’m sure he will want to drive it again. This comment is reassuring about the engine. I knew they were good and I’d be more than happy with another 100,000 so if I could get 500,000 miles, that would be even better. I Don’t mind replacing bits on the car as long as the engine remains intact. I live in the UK and managed to get the lower car tax Jeep which will save me nearly £200 per year. Anything registered before 23/03/2006 is the lower banding, but regulations were changed and put in affect on that date and it remains with the life of the car which is good 👍🏻. Only reason why my dad got rid of his was because of this tax increase as his was registered after the 23/03/2006. Mines the 10th 😜. #Wishmeluck

Currently own a 2008 Jeep WK CRD with the same OM642 engine Just a few things: - EGR Valve and Turbo inlet seals; should be replaced over 200k km. - Swirl valves may fail; you can get them replaced or modify them and have them removed and use a tune to stop the warnings. - Oil can sometimes get onto the alternator and cause it to fail - When the Cam sensor fails it may go into limp mode. - Recommended oil should be a 0w30 or a 0w40; if you can get the MB 229.51 certified oil. - I heard that sometimes the differential will growl; when you do a fluid change add a friction modifier. I had a question what size tire was he recommending to go to?

@@11chaos20 if you change out the intercooler seals, turbo inlets seals, issues within the intake manifold. Intake manifold issues are with regards to the swirl valves might begin fail; you can either replace the manifold, or prior to failure you can tune the engine or add a resistor. They can last 310,000 miles. Run 0w40 or 5w40, at 3,000 miles to 6,500 miles intervals. The 5w30 oil is thin. The current engine I have has close to 217,479 miles, being the 3rd owner.

You americans are obsessed with power and petrol. What do like being booked for speeding. Ive owned Diesels all my life [4x4] when youre in sand or climbing a steep gravel track in low range ypou dont want your car running out of low torque and stalling bc your power brakes are gone your steering is gone as you roll back wards down a hill ...scaret stuff. Diesels will keep tuning the wheels if you selected the right gear and you dont have to rev the guts out of it I hate petrol 4x4 waste of time. If you want fast car buy a sedan with a v8 Exxon will love yu!!

preach!! i think america doesn't produce a lot of smaller diesel options because they are too practical and last too long.. so planned obsolescence.. and the fact that our country is bigger then most of europe.. all the diesel we import or produce has to go to all the long haul trucks and diesel electric trains that ship all our food, produce, and all the crap that most americans spend their money on that they don't need.
