Rolling the soles of your feet over a tennis ball for a couple of minutes before stretching the hamstrings helps to release them. Try it and see the difference. Also once you reach what you feel is your maximum stretch, take a deep breath and on the release stretch a tiny bit further and surrender into it. Your body will release a bit more with the sigh. You can do this with any stretch.

You mentioned on one of your videos I watched recently that you’re 5’ and I just wanted to say that it’s really refreshing to see someone my same height/build teaching yoga. I’d love to see videos about your experience as a petite yogi, your favorite petite athletic wear brands, and even how you eat day-to-day to maintain your fitness! Also curious if you primarily do yoga for exercise or if you add lifting or anything. Love your peaceful, relaxed style of teaching!! Looking forward to trying out one of your flows soon
@CharlieFollows11 ай бұрын
Hello and thank you for your comment. Honestly being petite hasn’t changed my practice all that much as far as I’m aware (I wouldn’t know any different). As for petite brands I don’t know of any specifically but I love that a lot of brands do 7/8 leggings because the standard size is way too long for me 😂 as for food I eat quite healthy, without restriction. I like 3 decent meals a day and that works for me. For exercise I mix in yoga, mobility and some body weight exercises.

Do you think it's true what they say that some people will never be able to achieve the middle splits due to the shape of their hip sockets or bone anatomy?
@CharlieFollows Жыл бұрын
Yes I do agree with this. If there is bone on bone compression then there’s no working around that. You can’t push past bone so some people will have a limit whereas others will be able to go all the way.
@ashleyltmАй бұрын
This is called femoroacetabular impingement, or hip impingement. 3 types: Cam, pincer, and combined. I have pincer type, it looks like a shelf of the extra bone on my hip joint on MRI & xray. It hits into the top of my femur when I try doing a split. Some of us physically cannot do a split no matter how flexible we are.

That told us absolutely nothing about how to continue making progress for our splits. All you did was explain to us the definition of reciprocal inhibition.
@CharlieFollows Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your observation. The point of this video was the get people to change their perspective on the splits being all about the hamstrings and get them to see that the thing that might be preventing them from making progress is their lack of focus on the hip flexors.

@TheTimHall11 ай бұрын
That's not true, although it is something you will hear people say a lot, because they've heard it from someone. Dancers, gymnasts and martial artists are constantly working through positions from a square front split to an open front split (back foot turned out). If fact, to get good freedom of movement you should work both closed front splits and open front splits. That's the only way you will be able to turn from right front split, through middle split to left front split while remaining in contact with the floor. Some people with badly shaped pelvic bones or femurs may get joint impingement, but that can be true of any joint if your bone structure is not suited to what you are attempting to do.

So finally i achieved my front split in 45 day or 1.5 month and my age is 20 years old but if you think you can do also this in that much time let me tell you u have been train yoga for 3 times in 3 years and for 15 to 25 days and give up but this time i improves my plan ans achieve my split in 1.5 month But here is a key I train through a professional yoga routine for each muscle hamstring ,quad and glutes and i do the exercise for 1.5 hour in one session and twice a day means around 3 hour of training in a day for 45 days And also al exersise trained with full intensity 🎉😅

Okay this is helpful information, but you’re twisted and tilted forward and should be sitting up higher and maintaining proper upright position rather than losing form to get the split- especially when teaching people how to split. form is more important than split depth.
