One advice concerning cats, it is to feed them close to their carrier. That way they associate the carrier with something they like (eating). So it helps a lot for getting them to the vet smoothly. For the rest, it's completely normal.

@@nicolecloutier4923 I do the same and my two will sleep in it and my big cat, Loki, eats treats in it. When it comes to getting them into the carrier to go to the vet, Loki won’t go anywhere near it even if I put treats in it and as soon as I close the gate he cries and tries to escape and sticks his front paws through the gate. Thor, my kitten, is easier to get into the carrier and I put a toy in with him but once the gate is closed he does the same as Loki and bites the gate too. When we get home from the vet and let whoever was in the carrier out and put it back in their room, they’ll quite happily go back in either together or alone. Thor likes to shut the gate over when Loki is inside and Loki is fine with it. I guess they know what is happening and pick up on my emotions when it’s vet visit time as the crying meows are heartbreaking.

Here in the UK, a charity called Cats Protection actually recommend keeping cats indoors for 3 months before allowing them outside to roam and this is because of the high number of cats that still ran away after being kept in for 3 weeks. So they did a study on the % of cats that run away after 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks etc etc and found that the % of cats that ran away was lowest when they are kept in for 3 months. Also female cats can come into heat as frequently as every month from mid Spring to early Autumn if not spayed. Most domestic cat females stop cycling over winter when not spayed.

I came to say the same thing. I also had a cat go into heat at three months. It’s also important to spay before going into heat as even once can greatly increase their chances of cancer later on. Mammary cancer is the most common although it can contribute to other varieties of cancer. Waiting is only a benefit in large breed/heavier dogs, it isn’t so much of one for cats. Cats and dogs can smell and sense wounds and the vet smell. They tend to revert to survival of the fittest and can often attack until wound is fully healed. Happened many times with brother cats we owned. It is a revert to wild. Not all animals do that but most will. The really amazing animals are the ones who care for the sick and wounded both their species and different species than their own.

i recently learned that some types of ants actually heal their own. In this particular colony they have medics who go around producing this liquid and putting it on hurt soldiers wounds then carrying them away

Aw, I feel exactly the same when I bring my cats to the vet!! One of them yowls the entire drive. The hissing is because she smells funny, it's super common after a pet has surgery and you bring them home.

Yeah I have heard some cats go into estrus at 4 months (I think it’s atypical though - the definition of it is precociousness). I used to wait to six months but I go to about five months nowadays.

@@connthebombcom yeah. I thought so. As a kid I had a precocious young cat that got impregnated (she was just over three months old), and my mom said she probably wouldn’t be able to raise kitten to adulthood. Sure enough, the young cat abandoned her kittens and I had to raise them.

With male cats some vets recommend waiting until the cat's urethra is more fully developed so there is less chance the cat will develop the common problem of getting their very narrow urethras blocked by ash or other byproducts in dry cat food. A blocked urethra is deadly.

About animals not liking going to the vet: it's all about how they get treated at the vet's office. My last pet rabbit (who died a few years back) LOVED going to the vet. The first time we went, the gal doing "patient" intake cuddled him so much that he fell in love for life. From then on, my cue to him was "Do you want to go see Dana (that gal)?" I'd ask him in the morning when I fed him, leave his cage open, and set out his carrier (which was just a small bin with a folded bath towel. I didn't want him to feel like he was in a trap.) I'd go to get dressed and when I was ready he'd be sitting in the bin ready to go. Never a problem with that sweet little guy. Of course, the vet was his vacation spot, too. Whenever I had to go out of town, he went to the vet for boarding. This was an "exotic animal" vet, so in a place full of lizards and NOISY birds, he was the cute animal that everybody petted. Of course he liked going there: he got all the attention he could handle.

"I'm really not a cat guy," Morgan always says... this time while Ginny uses him as a climbing wall. Like everyone else has said, cats come back from the vet smelling funny (esp.. if they've had surgery), so any other cats will regard them with suspicion. Even their own offspring. Also like other people have said, you might want to re-think waiting another month or two to spay Ginny. Cats can have their first heat as young as 4 months of age - and you don't want Ginny to have been running free on the farm when her first heat happens. Lordy, no.

Listening to the "The Dark Tower"? ... be prepared. King had no idea how to end it, so eventually he just ... ended it. And then told people who hated the lame, self indulgent final chapters, to pound sand. His justification: "They should have just enjoyed the journey and not have be concerned about the destination".

She is hissing at mom because mom smells differently! Leave them alone. They will work it out. One thing you seem to not understand yet about cats. They ARE NOT dogs and you don't train them like dogs! You keeping them locked up in a dark old barn without anything but a hour visit from you is just downright cruel for a cat! While they are normally solitary type creatures they still need interaction with people and animals and SUNSHINE! One of a cats greatest Joy's in life is just basking in the sunshine! Their body temperature runs much higher than ours and basking on the sun is good for their very being! Even if they are barn cats and not house cats. As far as the baby kitty as long as they are the proper weight they can be fixed! They can get pregnant as young as 4 months old and that's brutal on a kittens body. Get her fixed sooner than later please!
