Commercial pasta sauces have added sugar in order to cut the acidity of the tomatoes. But there's a completely natural way to do this without any sugar at all: baking soda. Add a teaspoon or two (dependnig on how much sauce you're making) to the sauce at the final stage and the two will neutralize. Warming: it will bubble and fizz! But that's what happens when you mix an acid and a base (think the "primary school volcanos")

Wonderful video Emmie, thank you! Jeff Novick's calorie density presentation is also soooo on-point here. The idea of reducing a meal's calorie density by replacing half of the plate with non-starchy vegetables, and in general, making substitutions of less calorically dense foods for the higher calorically-dense ones. I really like how you mentioned the sneaky things that creep up on you like oils in tomato sauce, and the caloric density of even McDougall-approved foods like Mary's Gone Crackers.

So what about whole wheat or protein pastas? Is it a wet or dry starch, because they start out dry but then you cook the water back into them
@darabethany53094 ай бұрын
I eat them but I find them to be calorically dense when I'm calorie counting which is bad for weightloss. But they taste great and are healthy so you could eat half a plate of pasta with half a plate of vegetables to avoid over eating on the pasta. When I cook pasta I measure it and I'm always a little sad there isn't seconds but if I make too much I eat the whole pot 😅

Great video, thank you! Im new to this way of eating...I tried keto and lost nothing but now I know why! My question is this, I thought our bodies needed healthy fats so if we just eat starches and fruits and vegetables where does the healthy fat come from? Or do we not need it at all?
@jenmatt19232 жыл бұрын
I get healthy fats mostly from whole foods like nuts, seeds, avocados, etc. For health sake, we need to focus not only on the calorie intake but the nutritional value of foods and what our body needs. And we do need healthy fats!
