Just finished AoM today. I LOVE this series. Actually, I read DiW, KoD, and AoM this month mostly through audiobook and immersion reading. The pacing, storytelling, prose, and variety of settings have all been excellent. You can tell this series has been very carefully crafted. Good thing I have the ASOIAF and Malazan read alongs or I wouldn’t know what to read next month. I’d rather read book six, but now I am waiting with everyone else.

Ah man, AoM made me cry so hard. What a good book. I’m also excited for the readalongs! I’ve already started GoT and then I’m going straight into GotM! It’s gonna be a funny year!

Uh oh. You saying that it gets really dark is giving me second thoughts. Are we talking grimdark "Game of Thrones" type stuff? Graphic mutilations, etc? The series sounds like what I need to try to get into Sci Fi, but that's a big turn-off. I prefer stories that are "mostly PG-13". A few "R" scenes is fine, as long as it's not the norm.

I don’t think the violence is graphic. It’s more thematically dark. It tackles some tough subjects, but I don’t think exceptionally graphic.

Just finished Empire of Silence and picked up Lesser Devils (the novella set between books 1 and 2). I really liked Empire of Silence and I'm excited about continuing this series. Have you read the Red Rising series? They're very different while also being very similar in many ways. They're both sci-fantasy told from a first person POV (though in the later books of Red Rising we're introduced to other POV's than the main character but still in first person).
