If this is your first experience sitting down and watching a show of this style, I urge you to approach it objectively. Both the English dubbed and Japanese subbed versions should be watched dubbed then subbed, respectively. I think while the japanese version is more honorable to the manga art form, I love the creative freedom that made the 1st season English dub feel like something funny that middle aged/ older people could relate to.

@harveyhope85174 жыл бұрын
mysterious realM7 i don’t believe anyone said “boring is interesting” but rather talking about the end sequence and how it is a reflection of saitama’s state of mind, as said above by the original commenter. If you think the show as a whole is boring and find the gags not funny then i’m not entirely sure what to say, since i’m not sure how to sway your opinion on that (since comedy is subjective and all) also even though gags are certainly a large part of the anime they certainly aren’t what the anime only consists of. It also features a supporting cast which i’ve heard no one complain about, a main character who you’re able to care for more than just “oh he’s op big whoop”, beautiful animation, etc. Also i don’t agree with every episode being the same (as you make it out to be). jokes are able to follow a certain pattern but that doesn’t automatically mean each joke is the same and therefore loses value because a similar joke has been made before. also it’s hard to even understand what “gags” you are talking about. you are far too vague, even when you reference “tensity”, like no offence dude but i honestly have no idea what you mean. tensity what? what makes something tense for you? is it a crazy drama filled anime or one with insane fights? but if the show isn’t for you then that’s completely fine my dude

The amount of heart put into that scene is enormous. From Genos' understanding of what Saitama wanted, to what Saitama did when he arrived. We (Along with Genos) are supposed to know how great he is, but he doesn't care if no one else does. It is easily one of the best scenes in any anime/manga.
@LieutenantAmerica7 жыл бұрын
It's probably the biggest moment of character growth from him. He starts out wanting to be recognized as a hero by joining the Association, and is irritated by the lack of respect and attention he gets. And then once he realizes that other people deserve that attention and respect more (and indeed, that the Association may suffer serious backlash for their perceived ineffectiveness), he gives it all up. In terms of sacrifice and altruism, it's probably Saitama's finest moment, since he never really faces those factors in any actual fights.
@twelie17 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I agree entirely. I honestly thought the part leading up to it was kind of slow paced to me, and almost caused me to just skip episodes, because they were amping up an enemy that you knew was going to be decimated. It never made me think "wow, I hope he wins". Instead it was "Oh my god, hurry up and get on with it, stop sending other random heroes when it's very clear that Saitama is gonna sweep like he always does". I think the points it made were entertaining and intriguing, but before those points happened, as more heroes went to fight I'm pretty sure I literally just tabbed out and did stuff while listening to the dialogue. Maybe that's just me, though.
@ekki19937 жыл бұрын
+LieutenantAmerica IDK if I would call it "character growth" though. To me it's more of character exploration. The anime industry (hell, the storytelling industry in general) has used the "OP strong hero" trope for a while now. But Saitama isn't your average OP strong hero with a weak mind. He also has what I like to call an "OP" conviction, morals, heroics in general. He's the ultimate hero in every way explored by ONE. In that scene, and coming after his response to the crowd boo-ing him, we just get to see to what extent he's the ultimate hero. It's exciting for the same reason his fight with Boros is exciting: we get to see up to which extent he shatters the adversities in front of him. I'd go as far as to say that he doesn't actually get the recognition because it's something he doesn't care enough as to put his heart to it. He sort of climbs the hero ladder by virtue of being insanely OP to the point where his accomplishments can't be ignored for plot reasons, not because he's actively going out of his way trying to climb. He values his heroic deeds above everything else, and that is, then again, what makes him the ultimate hero.

you missed one of the most important things about saitama. just like you said, the idea of an invincible character is boring. saitama is invincible and because of that, he's BORED. What makes One Punch Man resonate so well with me is the values it demonstrates. Saitama's power dwarfs that of the other heroes and villains, not because of his uniqueness and talent, but because of his consistency, humility, and conviction. This comes out in sharp contrast to most anime. It almost seems like the world of heroes and villains exists as a destabilizing force in the world. Saitama's modest workout routine and balanced lifestyle demonstrate virtues that lie at the core of eastern philosophy. He is not exceptional, he does not overreach, he accepts who he is and his place in the world and therefore he thrives. You'll notice that all of the hero and villain characters rely on gimmicks and tricks to succeed. Many of them succumb to their own hubris. They're jabronis made to demonstrate the imbalance of their perspective and attitudes. I love this show because it is, to me at least, a sharp contrast from the narcissistic wank found in most anime.
@davantejohnson78505 жыл бұрын
Oi oi, don't be so modest now. Infact, I'll just name a few ex: 1. A high-school delinquent with the idea that. a super strong alloy baseball bat WILL suffice against lasers, claws, fangs, buildings, folk #hithewoah👷etc. 2. A black man with damn-near absolutely impervious exterior but his mental frame isn't nearly as tough once the pressure really turns up. 🐣 3. The one actually rather narcassitic hero referred to here, as a genuine go-getter. Plus preserves the role for himself with 💪💀💕

I think the outro music/tone fits the show very well. Next to its awesomeness OPM also has a strong theme of melancholy, human struggle and depression. Spoilers: About the Sea King battle What I really like about that battle is that through out the show, we wanted people to acknowledge Saitema's power. If they just see what Saitema is capable for...If they just see him...They'll understand and praise Saitema But in the end, the crowd all see Saitema deliver that one punch ...........and people doesn't believe him. It made sense, when people see something out of the ordinary, they ignore it or think of other possibilities. They dismiss it completely and start saying, "Oh its not that hard". It struck me, that realities are harsh to Saitema, and to all heroes as well.

"Deep Sea King is an order of magnitude above any enemie we've seen up to that point." Vaccine Man, Beefcake, Beast King and Carnage Kabuto: Am I a joke to you? Also Deep Sea King only took out Puri Puri Prisoner and Genos who at the time actually were actually among the weakest in the S class.
@viktorayy4 жыл бұрын
Seriously, felt like Super Eyepatch Wolf was hamming it up during that segment of the video for no reason. lol His point still stands that it was a climactic emotional buildup to a moving scene, but Deep Sea King was only Demon disaster level. Vaccine Man & Beefcake both destroyed 1 city each with ease, planning to destroy more if Saitama hadn't shown up, making them Dragon disaster level. Deep Sea King was slowly making his way through 1 city, destroying a minimal amount of property compared to the size of the city, and struggled against Genos. No way was he a "magnitude above" them. haha
@viktorayy4 жыл бұрын
@Bacon Spice Water That's certainly true! Deep Sea King as an antagonist through the lense of storytelling was well done, and really helped the worldbuilding of OPM. Although, that's not the context S.E.W. used. He worded it in a way to make it seem Deep Sea King was stronger than he was to justify his point in the video. A threat that was greater than anything before, which isn't true. A little more thought on his scripting would have been nice as he could have achieved the same effect without lying (or being misinformed, not sure) by saying something like, "Had Saitama not been there for other greater threats like Vaccine Man and Carnage Kabuto, seen earlier in the series, even more life would have been lost. It just goes to show you how important Saitama really is. And although, we the viewers know that, the rest of the world of One Punch Man doesn't. And that's why this scene is even more heartbreaking, (Shows Tank Top Tiger & Black berating Saitama and Saitama's Hero speech)" Something like that. I haven't watched this vid in a while, but I tried to make it sound like him lol

Isn´t that how the entire genre works? You can´t really fault one anime for doing what is expected from it. Dragon Ball was about "keep trying, keep fighting but hey, have alien blood in you is not going to hurt you." Even the human that are powerful (I am thinking the wife of Gohan, whose name I can´t remember now) are ultimately useless against the majority of enemies.
@TKUltra9718 жыл бұрын

+Candy Von Bitter I think in addition to what you said, Dragon Ball was about staying humble, always trying to get better, and showing mercy/being a good enough person that you even turn your enemies into friends. That was a pretty major part of the show you can't leave out with people like Yamcha/Puar, Oolong, Tenshinhan/Chiaotzu, Piccolo Jr., Vegeta, Android 18 (and 17 kinda), and Majin Buu (in a way you could say Yajirobe, Beerus, Mr. Satan, Krillin, Android 16, and even the Chibi Pilaf crew) all becoming good guys, among others I probably forgot.

I rewatch it every now and then just to get a little dose greatness. Mumen Rider is the greatest hero in the series even though he lacks any type of super powers.
@gigglepantsiii8265 жыл бұрын
What draws me to OPM os that other shows end up forgettinv to show daily life. Look at DBZ and DBS the fans generally assume that Goku is a terrible father and ditches his family to train and fight since we rarely see him interact with them outside eating and training. Other shows get caught up in the power up arcs and then get criticized for backpedaling with filler episodes to try and flesh out chatacters and their relationships with others. OPM doesn't have those arcs, we still get fun fight scenes but we don't need to listen to voice actors destroying their vocal cords screaming for episodes on end. Tl;dr OPM doesn't have to worry about power ups and it's characters flourish

Saying you'd wish for there to be more females is a strange thing to say in my mind. If the creator can think of a hero that fits a female character well, am sure they'd make them and reveal them. The demographic and concept of the manga clearly is targeted for a male-demographic over female and is meant for power-fantasy moreso, if not a satirical form of power fantasy since Saitama doesn't have to workout or 'power up' anymore to be a hero. Shoehorning females for the sake of diversity, never do that. If you want an anime with a harem of girls, OPM obviously isn't an anime you should look at for it. And of course, forcing a strong female cast just to balance out the amount of males or saying the lack of females = bad is, a bit grasping at straws and is something people should just avoid in this day and age. Animation/stories don't need to force diversity as much as SJW's make it seem. No amount of "It's 2016!" can change that. (Not implying more females is bad, but forcing multiculturialism or gender diversity for the sake of 'diversity' is a really stupid thing). As for the Ending....I'd say it's just a good alleviation of the action/fast-paced nature of the show - by slowing it down to a calmer state. Sorta like if we were to think, while watching the show? Your heart is beating fast - you want to watch more! The show ends, the outro plays, it calms you back down to a state of normalcy. It revs you up with a blazing intro to pump you up - continues it with great episodes and then slows down to a calmer pace to settle you back down. That's how I see it.

I love, love, LOVE that scene with Mumen Rider facing down the Sea King! It works on every level imaginable, but my favourite part of it might actually be when Saitama catches Mumen Rider and says "Nice fight, man". Mumen Rider might be the only hero in the show who does what he does for entirely selfless reasons, and the fact that Saitama recognises that genuine compassion makes me tear up. It was a moment devoid of Saitama's usual lethargic and cynical attitude that really shows how he is a greatly caring and loving individual in a world that doesn't really value his qualities. All the top heroes - or most of them, at least - are arrogant assholes who only care about their PR, and the fact that they essentially control Saitama and Mumen Rider's life and career means that their actual human qualities are filtered through bureaucracy. Yet despite that, the two never stop fighting, never cease to persist in what they want to do, and how they want to do it. Fuck, I'm tearing up again. What a genuine masterpiece of a show.

Not sure how you pronounced it, but the name of the artist who draws the OPM manga is *Yuusuke Murata*. Btw, I really like the parallel you drew between Saitama and ONE, and I'd go as far as to say the comparison goes even deeper. I don't know if you knew about this, but at some point ONE did consider giving up on OPM despite its growing popularity to focus on his work as a salaryman. It's around that time that Murata (whom I believe was ill at the time) caught wind of ONE's webcomic, read it and contacted the guy to dissuade him from abandoning his work and proposed to make a redrawn version of it, because he felt there was the potential for something great in there. They've been friends ever since and Murata has been supporting ONE every step of the way (he threw a lot of small references to Mob Psycho in the OPM manga, and has been closely following and tweeting about the Mob Psycho anime as it was airing). In a lot of ways I think their relationship mirrors that of Genos and Saitama. At the start of the show/manga, you've got a 20 something unemployed and isolated man who suffers from serious ennui and isn't far from depression. Then Genos comes in and turns his life around; becoming his disciple, encouraging him to join the Hero Association and always keeping faith in his sensei's potential and good heart. It's a really heartfelt and human story, and this humanity is what I believe characterizes all of ONE's works (whether it be OPM, Mob Psycho or Makai no Ossan) and what draws so many people in.

What I love about one punch man is the one thing that made me a super fan: it felt real. What made me a fan of it wasn’t his seemingly infinite power, but rather the story. Everytime I watch the scene where Saitama uses a serious punch on Boros, takes me back to where he said he dreamed of becoming a hero where he could send villains flying with a single punch. Seeing Saitama where he is and could finally one punch monsters makes me feel like I’m in his shoes, it feels like he achieved his dream of one punching monsters. This may not be a super good reason but I just really understand Saitama and how far he’s come to achieve his childhood dream and that’s why it’s my favorite anime.

I'm glad I came across your channel. Thank you for the video, it actually convienced me to watch One Punch Man anime. Good luck and keep doing what you do!

So what do you think of the show?
@МаксимЩербань-т6ы8 жыл бұрын
TheDragonfriday It's one of the best things I've seen in my entire life! I am not kidding, I've appreciated this show about as much as I did FLCL. The only issue I have (with this video, not the show) is that the dude presented Deep Sea King as some sort of final boss, when in actuality Lord Boros was the final boss.

You, my friend, is amazing at what you do. Thank you. From the core of my soul, thank you. This video helped me stand up against difficult time in my life. Please keep doing analysis like this, I'm sure that there is someone who needs it just like me.

Love how he prounces the word heart! Kinda sounds Irish, but man really puts passion into the word.

I noticed Saitama is the only truly internally motivated superhero in the show. Everyone else is pursuing a specific goal, or wants the approval/respect/prestige of being a superhero. Even the most modest of the heroes in the show have some external motivation: Genos is seeking revenge, Mumen Rider wants validation by proving to he actually CAN be a hero, and Bang wants more students like Saitama to pass his art down to. Saitama just wants to be a hero because it's fun. I think that, more than anything, gets me thinking about whether the show's core theme is about how doing something you enjoy, rather than doing it to get something out of the world, has greater power. I would bet money that it is so.

Oh my goodness, this video was amazing! I finished this whole show in 3 days when I first discovered it and I was curious as to what you might say and you just totally put words into the feelings I couldn't describe for the show. And where it really hit home is when you were talking about the show's heart, I actually teared up. You just earned yourself a new subscriber :D

Come back to this and the mob video often. One is a fantastic creator and I’m forever thankful I was able to be alive when he created these stories

One thing I really like about saitama is that he has everything a character needs to be shallow, he overpowers everything and nothing can oppose him... but he still is a deep character.(not that deep... but way deeper than you would think)

I was about to scream at you that there are 2 seasons then I realised this was made 4 years ago
@weeksweeks95523 жыл бұрын
Season 2 basically undone everything season 1 was. You get more action by shaking the manga book than watching the anime
@d4s0n2823 жыл бұрын
@@weeksweeks9552 I disagree, season 2 fleshed out a LOT athough the visuals were overall a LOT worse
@weeksweeks95523 жыл бұрын
@@d4s0n282 Storywise - yes its probably better than S1 , but the animations were so shit and they decided not to animate some of the fights. At times i felt i was just reading the manga on my screen but with voice overs and camera shakes.
@d4s0n2823 жыл бұрын
@@weeksweeks9552 true, but a lot of the reason we watch is the story lol, and was the manga not super low quality since the artist was not that gifted but gave a amazing story? also the animations were not that trash, sure they were bad but 99% of the people that watch care way more about story then how the animation looks. although it helps

ONE will always be one of my favorites authors, both of just straight how good the stories are and the passion that goes into them. OPM and MP100 will always be close to my heart
