Nothing teaches you better than recovery from an injury and how to lift correctly from that point onwards. 11:37 Is how I train. I've found my own personal favourite exercises and I enjoy doing them; sometimes, I'll add something new, like an attachment on a cable push-down and have to go light to moderate until it is not feasible to do so with the load, then change it up after reaching diminishing returns.

I like his common sense, I agree. I was overtraining bad so I switched to Dorian Yates program and I have a ton more energy now and I like it way better. Two warm up feel sets then one hard set to failure then on to the next exercise, if you’re already warmed up really good you don’t have to warm up with every exercise but definitely warm up at the start of the workout

Honestly it’s so true because with legs I feel like when your going to failure on leg press, hack squats, lunges, etc. The more fatigue you do it’ll affect the next workout. I was always like ah I just need to get through it and it always would affect my next workout.

Mike can you speak to the novelty of an exercise making people feel like wow now I found the right exercise. Sometimes it's just a novel movement, hits the muscle in a different way, but it's not necessarily better than the other stuff...it's just new. Maybe pair this with you Want your body to adapt...adapting is good...freaking your body out consistently won't lead to progress.

what I see in my gym is this weird mix where bodybuilding and powerlifting have blended in to one, nobody is training woth intensity, just train heavy and log it in a book, very few drop sets,super sets or rest pause.. the log book now rules and the pump has been forgotten 😊

Have Mike discuss the idea of "Accommodating Resistance". New & intermediate trainees MAY be able to find 'FAILURE' using the concept.
@ericboslar3 ай бұрын
So you want Mike to talk about making the lift more cumbersome in the setup by using bands and chains to change the resistance curve? He literally makes fun of stuff like that because he is talking about bodybuilding, not strength training or powerlifting. You’re missing the point.
@martinvulu18483 ай бұрын
@@ericboslar you & Mike can make fun of it if you like. If what you are trying to get a new trainee to understand is training to failure, accommodating resistance is one TOOL in the box a person can try. Bodybuilding IS Strength Training. It doesn't BECOME bodybuilding until we start talking about stepping on stage.
@ericboslar3 ай бұрын
@@martinvulu1848 then explain why a 170lb guy will have double the strength of a 260lb bodybuilder. It’s because he lifted for strength primarily, where as the bodybuilder lifts for size. The weight goes up for bodybuilders as needed for stimulus, for pump. The weight goes up for powerlifters and strongmen because that’s their main focus. The main thing is, you don’t have to be big to be strong and you don’t have to be strong to be big relative to your size.
@martinvulu18483 ай бұрын
@@ericboslar "The weight goes up for bodybuilders as NEEDED for the pump." How does one KNOW what's needed to get the pump? With Accommodating Resistance, a trainee can safely keep the target muscle under tension for as long as it is needed to achieve failure. A 30 second set of banded Hammer Strength presses with 15-35# of band tension per side will give me WAAAY more stimulus than however long I'm under the 125s for dumbbell presses. Never mind the strength lost just getting them from the rack into pressing position. How long have you been training? I'm at 36 years. In fact, if there was ever someone who could truly benefit from Accommodating Resistance, it would be the Contest Prep Bodybuilder as what's the first thing to go when you get into your diet? YOUR STRENGTH.
@ericboslar3 ай бұрын
@@martinvulu1848 they know because they self regulate. Hey I’m not getting the pump, hey I’m not getting sore, hey I trained chest 2 days ago and felt perfect to do it yesterday. Everyone is different and requires different volumes and loads to build. You couldn’t throw a 50lb band on someone’s lift if they weren’t ready for it. The issue is, the setup, the bull shit. Then compound that most of those people also need to setup a camera to show it because they need validation. Now you’re the asshole lifting 185 with bands, but you took 5 minutes to set it up, 3-5 minutes of rest, 4 sets, you’re looking at 20 minutes on a bench in a regular everyday gym. You’re a dick. When it comes to hypertrophy, you could literally walk to any weight stack and if you know how to target the muscle properly, can be out of there in 45 minutes including warm up. Don’t have to spend the money on the bands. We’re not talking about guys who workout at powerlifting gyms where that one rack is occupied for an hour. Bodybuilding needs an hour to accomplish 2-3 muscle groups. We’re still talking about the differences of strength training and bodybuilding. Strength training, size is not the main focus but a byproduct of the work put in. Bodybuilding strength is a byproduct of the work put in.

If you train to failure, you just need one set.
