When you made the Corrilation between the Distracting of Max and Messing with someone's Oxygen or Wheelchair, that was profoundly smart,however also what should be simple logic to people. I am proud of you. A powerful statement right there and one you should use often as surely that is a simple and logical way to educate and get through to people. I adore you Dom. I live in Canada so I don't know about anyone else but when I was in elementary school we often had people with disabilities and service dogs visit the school and answered questions that the children had. They talked about walking sticks, personal disability questions, how to tell if someone was blind, and service dogs. In my community almost all individuals know and understand service dogs are working because they were taught in school. I think it would be beneficial (if you are comfortable) to visit a few schools in your area and teach a generation of children the importance of service dogs.
@BabyTXGrl6 жыл бұрын
unfortunately most schools don't do this, of course there are always exceptions but a majority of them don't even speak of it! When i went to school yes we had kids with disabilities in the school but they were in self contained special education classes that were pretty much far away from everyone else, you rarely saw them. In smaller communities due to lack of funding they have one school for children with disabilities for about 3-5 school districts so most "main stream" kids don't even see them. This was my experience anyways.
@caiyu6 жыл бұрын
Niki Harper that is a very different experience! Is that in the United States? In Ontario, classrooms and activities are modified to include children with disabilities. Educational assistants are assigned to classrooms to help teachers that have children who have any sort of special needs. It’s never to late for people organize special guests to visit schools though. I think teachers and kids would love it.

I appreciate your putting up these videos. Educating people must be exhausting, and I'm sorry that is another burden for you. I had No Idea of the danger until watching your channel. I was educated to ignore Service Dogs when I encountered a dog who had one of her tasks be to pick up items for her owner -a chair user. I did ALL the wrong things when meeting this woman and her service dog. I said Hi, and bent down in front of the dog, offered her the back of my hand. Just ALL the wrong things. The woman was very patient (as you have been) and explained that when a service dog is working they should be ignored so they stay focused for their owner. My shame was real over the guilt I felt for not knowing. Then I realized I didn't know because I hadn't been around anyone with a Service Dog before. Thank you for educating people all the time - sending you strength and patience (and somehow a long-range deflector for people who would try to distract Max).
@ivypendragon42456 жыл бұрын
MrsMissLisa You shouldn’t have been made to feel ashamed. Most people just don’t know any better...in fact they probably feel like they’re doing the Right thing..being friendly ..NOT making a big deal over someone with a disability. It’s terrible of someone to berate and embarrass someone just being kind.

Thank you so much for making these videos! I knew very little about serivce dogs before your videos and was just as scared around them as I would be around a normal dog due to very bad experience I had as a child. This has opened my eyes and made me more calm and relaxed around them. I saw one today at Walmart and decided to go in the opposite direction of them only because I had my 2 year old son with me and he is still trying to learn animals and I didn't want him to yell at the service dog and distract him. Thank you so much for your videos and I hope you keep making more!
@hisdarlingclementine6 жыл бұрын
Service Dog In Training Chopper that is wonderful that the mother was able to teach the little girl about seeing a serivce animal that not to let it is working. That is what I would have done if my older daughter was with me since she can fully understand what I am saying. Sadly my son has a huge learning disability that he might mimic words but won't understand any words. The only ones he uses correctly is juice and thank you. He calls every one and most animals mommy which we are working on in therapy and can't follow one step direction like to pick up a coat or throw your diaper away. That is why I knew that even if I tried it won't make sense to him and he would not understand it. As the therapy for him progress and he starts to understand and communicate better I'll be able to teach him about the difference between a non serivce animal and a pet with the help of the therapist. I do thank you for your suggestion though and if my son was better in understanding I would start teaching him now. Thank you

@pbmechura6 жыл бұрын
Karen Bradley Not a felony- but this link gives a description per state of what type of interference is an offense and what the fine would be. Most states describe the issue when it is done “knowingly/willingly.” Which is like someone who specifically wants to stop a service animal from doing its task. Which is a rare psychopath, definitely none of the type of people she encounters in these videos who are unaware that saying hi is wrong. www.cga.ct.gov/2010/rpt/2010-R-0048.htm

Spoiler, it's not. Good luck getting a court to do anything because you looked at a service animal. Or said "aww look at that puppy". Unless someone where to legitimately go over and pick up the dog, or kick it while it was trying to "help" its not illegal to distract a service dog unintentionally.

I was at church on Sunday and there was this guy who was a retired U.S marine and he had a service dog. And one of the volunteers at our church was helping people sit down and he went through the aisle that the guy had his dog with. The dog was in the aisle not blocking the way of course and the guy while he is leaving the aisle he goes down and pets the dog roughly saying “who’s a good boy?!” And then thanked the marine for his service. The guy just said “no problem bud” and watched the volunteer walk away... he looks at his dog and makes him move in between him and his wife so people couldn’t see the dog and couldn’t distract him. Then after the service he went to the owner and all that.. I’m not sure what’s it’s called and told them about it and right then and there the volunteers were called and got a talking to. That was my first experience that I see someone with a service dog have a problem with that.

Hi I’m new to your channel. I have new found respect for people with true service dogs. I have a question. How does Max know when you are getting ready to faint? Thank you for letting us in to your life and educating us on proper and safe behavior around a working service dog.
@Lycanbride6 жыл бұрын
Max was originally for PTSD and for responding to her syncope (which we now know is POTS). He then showed signs of being able to alert so she shaped it.
@siphoncipher8496 жыл бұрын
I was gonna guess a sudden drop in blood pressure or heartrate. I was just about to ask this same question to be honest, because I'm curious about just WHAT Max is watching for.
@danitaylor6916 жыл бұрын
I think it’s something to do with her heart rate. I don’t know much about the passing out side of POTS. But, I do know that standing up from a lying position increases heart rate (30-40 beats per minute), drop in blood pressure, and faint like symptoms. So, maybe it’s her heart rate increasing, and her blood pressure dropping that gets him to alert. I don’t know, maybe she’ll reply with the answer.
@karinagriggs76776 жыл бұрын
I am so sorry you have to deal with that added worry all the time. I posted your other video of when Max missed an alert and you fell and hurt your head to my Facebook page to help get the awareness out there. I was one of those people that didn't understand about distracting a service dog. I thought as long as I didn't pet it, that it was ok. I feel so bad now for the times in the past that I've distracted a service dog. I'm such an avid dog lover and it's a knee jerk reaction to freak out over a cute dog, especially one as cute as Max, but I see how dangerous that can be now. I will never do that again. Thank you so much for your videos. You're getting info out there that I'm pretty sure not a lot of people know about.

Your correct with all the things like you wouldn’t mess with someone’s wheelchair, I feel so bad for lots of people that get their service distracted when some really bad things can happen!

I love your videos!! My friend has a service dog and every time we go out together someone talks to him or tries to pet him. It’s a pain really. We feel your pain

This was personally very informative for me, I learned a lot from this video :) I had no idea that talking to/petting a service dog could be distracting to their work until now, and I will keep that in mind when I see people with service dogs in the future ^_^

I’m glad I found your channel, dont get me wrong. I understand the situation and what happened, but I think you could’ve handled it differently by saying “I know you think my dog is cute, but if you have any questions about its work, ask me. My dog is working and cannot afford to have any distractions right now. Thank you for understanding.” That’s all you have to say when someone interacts with your dog.
@Ashtitude376 жыл бұрын
I hate to say it but it almost seems like having Max with you makes you an angrier and more anxious person. Don’t get me wrong. I fully understand he is a life saver for you and no one should be talking to him or distracting him. However you do these videos to show people not to distract service dogs but you’re willingly putting yourself out there with a camera intending to catch someone and get mad at them. It’s only increasing your anxiety. I love what you do but I think taking a different approach would be healthier for you, I think your videos are important so people can learn but I feel it’s adding more stress on you than you need.

she is not going out to catch people, she is recording her life, she is recording going to a store things in her life, doing vlogs many people do this with SD's and without

On Thursday afternoon I was at target and this nice man had a service dog with him and my little soon to be 2 year old brother was looking at the dog and saying “puppy,puppy” in Spanish. And the man came closer and let my brother say hi to the dog and all, but now I’m kind of wondering if it was or wasn’t a service dog since you mentioned in this video that it is dangerous to interact with service dogs. I don’t know, tell me what y’all think??

i would have serious anxiety having to educate everyone the laws. I feel for you I truly do. Most ppl don't know the laws, so i am grateful you have this channel to teach us. It's like trying to teach ppl the laws of Breastfeeding. I've had to do that. It's so hard, but it's not like I'm nursing 24/7. You have to deal with this on a daily basis.

I HATE it when people feel it's necessary to talk to my service dog. Literally everyday I leave my house, some adult tells their kid "Go ask if you can let him!" And he has a Red vest with SERVICE DOG in big letters and a crossed out hand for kids that may not be able to read. He is still young and can be distracted because, as you said, they are not robots. I get severe anxiety that cause me to have asthma attacks and get hives all over my body (weird, I know, I'm told all the time). When he gets distracted, I get anxious. People need to be better educated about service dogs and how to behave around them.

I've been watching your videos since I found your channel a few days ago cause I always found Service Dogs to be so amazing at what they do. How does Max know when you're going to faint? Like what is he sensing in you that alerts him something is going to happen and you need to lay down? 😄

Service Dogs to help individuals outwith Guide dogs and "hearing" dogs are a relatively new thing here in the UK. Fortunately most Children are taught at school about Guide Dogs because it's common place for schools to raise money for the cause. We are taught not to pet or distract the animals when wearing the harness. I'm currently teaching my 3 year old as we will very near a training home for the dogs so we see them daily. The trainers also take the dogs passed the schools to desensitise them from screaming children. Good luck with the training and spreading your message.

I love watching your videos, I just recently started to watch your channel after I seen a service dog in a grocery store with my daughter, I told her to take a look at the dog and for when she sees a dog in a vest to leave them alone, educating her early as possible since there is a service dog in the area and I told her to let her friends know when they see a dog in a vest to leave it alone as well

Alotta stores don't even mention service dogs ever!! Trust me I had a good amount of jobs sense I was 16!
@BabyTXGrl6 жыл бұрын
well unfortunately most due in a sense, it's usually on a poster or in a book they give you and/or have available but 99% of people don't read, look at, or ask for! It's how these places "comply with the law" and if something were to happen it's on the employee not the company.

Okay i'm honna be completely honest here. If i didn't find your channel and learnt that you can't distract service dogs, then i wouldn't know (is that even a proper sentence?! Haha sorry, english is my 3rd language & i'm still learning it). Okay, I wouldn't ask to pet your dog nor would i talk to him but I probably would've made an "aww" sound because i kinda always do it when i see a dog. What i'm trying to say is that i'm really glad that you educate the people that don't know how to behave in front of a service dog! :)

I learn something new every time I watch your vids and I might have one of my dogs ( my puppy Marleigh ) be trained as a service dog for me or comfort pet because of my emotions and anxiety. Your vids help me a lot to understand the rules and how to treat my service dog thx for your help and hope u have a wonderful time doing these vids.!!!!! I am 12 by the way just in case u were wondering

I'm curious as I saw a reply made by this channel to a comment here and got confused. Is the law against interacting with SAs with intent to distract or just any interactions in general, as any could distract a SA? I'm assuming the latter, as it would probably be hard to judge if they had intent or not...
@ServiceDogPaws6 жыл бұрын
Tsusumai if it is obviously a service animal or if you are told it is a service animal interacting with it without permission would be considered illegal.

The way you addressed the manager as opposed to the employee who actually called out to the dog was wrong. It’s condescending and patronising, why not directly inform the worker of the potential risks? What was the purpose of telling management? The excuse that she was working is invalid, she was scanning groceries and can still engage in conversation. You’re attitude is atrocious, inform people yes and yes I get repeating yourself is irritating but manners cost nothing.
@fereallacz_06 жыл бұрын
Emma Wright hunny your way of thinking is atrocious and you need a new perspective. She is someone who clearly deals with a lot on a daily basis including randomly collapsing and PTSD . The fact that she still has the courage to go out and run errands on a regular basis is amazing because I would not have the same strength. It is not her job to let people know they should be able to use those same eyes that they're looking at the dog with to read his vest which clear as day says DO NOT DISTRACT IT IS ILLEGAL. People are distracting her dog who has a 1-2 min timeframe to let her know if she is about to collapse. You must have not seen her other video where the guy was calling the dog, she ignored it (as you would have liked) and then 3 mins later she falls and gets a serious concussion. Don't talk until you've been in her shoes and have got multiple concussions all because people wana act like they're 5 yrs old when they see a dog. You wouldn't be too happy and her talking to a manager is the best idea because she can educate all ber employees as a whole instead of this woman having to tell people one by one while she's trying to shop like a normal person.
@ashwalmsley5616 жыл бұрын
Emma Wright she has the WORST attitude. I couldnt agree more with your comment...ive gone through and watched most of her videos now, my god Dominique you need to adjust your attitude. Get off your high horse and get on with your day... millions struggle with debilitating anxiety/stress everyday who cant manage to pull themselves from their beds, eat regularly, spend time with family and friends... think yourself lucky you have a well self trained dog to help you run your errands and get through your days.
@GiraffeCoco6 жыл бұрын
Emma Wright they should know the laws, it wasn't just that one worker, she wanted to make sure the whole store was informed so none of them would distract guide dogs.
@ilerad6 жыл бұрын
Couldn’t agree more. She may have a disability but treat people with respect. I’ve seen several videos of her being a b**** to people for talking to her dog. I have my own disabilities one being ptsd and I don’t hide behind it as an excuse to talk down on people. That’s why I give this vid thumbs down.
