Excellent info here. Took me like 2 years to figure out that I actually had TOS. Mainly from vdieo gaming, work and the lifting 5 days a week. Gotta stretch. Took about 8 months but I'm doing better.

I'd never heard of first rib release but tried it since I've had chronic pain in this area on my left side for years. OMIGOSH... this was the answer! Had to make do with a stretchy exercise band but it worked. Thank you thank you thank you. 👵🏻

Wow. I've been having neck pain and limited shoulder movement for quite a while. I finally went to PT recently and they said I lacked mobility in the first rib on that side. Your explanation made so much sense, and thank you for the stretches I'm going to give them a try.

I finally had mine removed after 3 years of PT. Still do PT when I need to, but surgery isn’t always a bad idea.
@49pickles2 жыл бұрын
I would add that if you avoid the PT before or after the surgery you could end up with other problems as the parts of your body that are compensating for your DISCOMFORT because compromised themselves.
@beatz327911 күн бұрын
How did you go after rib removal and what symptoms resolved for you. My rib is not where it should be and 1st rib is fused over the 2nd hence no mobility to move it with these exercises. I have come to terms with surgery as option now due to arm feeling like its in vice and unable to do much even typing this hand claws up around phone. Neck shoudler and chest all hocked up and soo strained painful and tight so assume removing rib will release this and hopefuly then can strenghten the shoulder and area once i can move more freely
@49pickles10 күн бұрын
@@beatz3279 I felt a difference immediately after waking up from surgery. For about a year though I was in a different kind of pain healing from the surgery. I still have numbness in my elbow to some degree, but not in the fingers. Both arms are the same temperature. I can lay flat on my back. The incision has been numb since the surgery and I have to do a lot of stretching to manage. Overall, I would do it again.

This is excellent and very credible - “physician, heal thyself”. I had a very bad massage, person pushed neck away while pulling on arm, and i have not been same since. I will be going to Hospital for Special Surgery for confirm I don’t have cervical issue; but these exercises are providing relief of something that is now almost 8 weeks chronic. I am convinced I have long term fasciae issues that have contributed to first rib problems, and ultimately have destroyed shoulders. I am old, but not dead yet!

I also use a peanut roller in the upper thoracic area and that feels wonderful.
@spencerhanson78082 жыл бұрын
To intensify the massage, I put the roller to the area I need, and then I slide my body (not lifting my body) slightly to the side opposing the area I want to target. And then I move the shoulder throughout its range of motion. This really gets next to and almost under the scapula.

Thank you so much for sharing this video for us. I believe this is the exact issue I have been dealing with for a long time. The issues for me are on my left side of my neck only. In that area where you pointed out is where it hurts for me also. For me it comes and goes and sometimes it is really bad and other times not so much. Depends a lot on what I am doing that causes it to flair up a lot more so. Since I have had this issue I can't do regular bench press with the bench bar anymore. It really starts to hurt to use the bench bar but can do dumbbells instead and it does not bother me to much at all. I will try these stretches now and see how it feels after doing them for awhile. Hopefully this will help loosen this up more so I don't keep having this issue. Do you think this will be an issue I will always have to deal with or do you think by doing these stretches will help it enough so it goes away. Just so you know I do a lot of lifting and for me I am trying to put more size on and do some semi heavy weight at times.

Can an elevated first rib cause pain in both SC and AC joints? Or anywhere along the clavicle? Have some TOS symptoms and tight scalene and suspect my first rib being elevated is the problem. Thanks for the video!

A naturally occuring anatomical structure is holding you back? Sound plausible? What is the pathology that the first rib is causing? This is just 'content' for contents sake...
@ThePrehabGuys3 жыл бұрын
If the first rib is slightly elevated, which it can become from posture, forward head positioning, various sports or movement patterns, it can cause some irritation and discomfort of the surrounding structures! This can lead to Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and other various diagnosis. Defnitely not saying that the first rib alone will hold you back, but if positioned poorly, it could lead to a few things!
@zod900 Жыл бұрын
Am hyper-mobile with a rotator cuff injury in my past, rib subluxations & collarbone instability. I can assure you that naturally occurring anatomical structures can hold you back. I have to step into my bra to put it on. If I lift in front or over my head, my collar pone pops out. My vision blurs, I can't sing high anymore, get migraines, SCM triggers, numbness..
