If you’ve ever used your iPhone on a beach, at a pool, or in a park, you may’ve noticed the screen slowly dim until it becomes almost unreadable. So why does this happen?
Well, it has to do with the direct sunlight making the device too hot. And while there are a variety of things that can heat up your iPhone.

@@Donut-jm6by He either doesent get it twice or is trolling. He means its useless to bring an overheated iPhone to the shade, because shade will not reduce the heat of the air around it. Which is semi-true. What he doesnt get: OP was talking about the difference of OLED and the old screens, bringing a new iPhone to the shade to see the blank dimmed screen is so its darker, not colder.

Not just iPhones even my LG G3 gets darker in the sun. Even worse it reduces the birghtness at its own from 100 to 90 due to overheating which is sometimes a safety barrier to prevent further damages. But on the iPhone side it also dims itself even if it's not overheating like being said on the video, FYI i never owned an iPhone before but it seems like i have been experiencing the same thing to my phone too.

@@megapangolin1093 Yes but there are 2 factors to consider. The Operating system and the brightness nits. If your OS automatically adjusts your brightness then it will be darker by itself. But if the nits are low then you'll get a lower brightness even if you set it to 100. I use my 2 LG phones at 0 brightness on indoors and they are pretty fully usable, i set it to 30 if i am on outdoors as i need more brightness on outdoors. Man i just cannot believe that LG Made the brightest displays even on 0 percent they remain usable on indoors. But on outdoors you need more brightness.

Doesn’t it just appear darker because the sun is brighter than your phone screen? A phone screen is a light emitter and is just weaker than the sun so it just becomes darker. Also, if it is to prevent overheating, then why do features such as adaptive brightness exist? Isn’t the entire point of adaptive brightness to adjust to the brightness of outdoors?
