Former Wichita police officer Randy Stone, famous in BTK history as the cybercop who who made the key move to catch BTK in 2005, now says BTK in the summer of 2004 tricked him into coaching him how not to get caught while sending e-mails. (Sept. 15, 2014)

If you're a police officer and a guy is asking you whether his emails can be traced, wouldn't that set off an alarm bell or two?

He was a compliance officer with the city of Park City. This guy probably figured that the guy in a nearby office was working on something or just curious about it.

That's super messed up that he threatened him with a mouthful of floppy disks. No matter what it would have to be pretty jarring to get threatened by an actual serial killer.

It speaks of Rader's arrogance and sense of superiority to think that he ever would be given the opportunity or be in a position to stuff floppy disks into that policeman's mouth.

Actually I think he chose floppies precisely BECAUSE it was old tech. He figured it would be harder to trace. I mean the cop starts the story by explaining how Dennis was thinking about using email at first. I guess it's comforting for the cop to view Dennis as inept.

Actually BTK indeed used a safe media like the floppy. What he failed was to use an microsoft office with real data like the user name "Dennis" and data from the church, if he had known about that sure he would have not be caught because there is no way of tracking a floppy by itself
@JamieVegas
@JamieVegas 5 жыл бұрын
Technically, even if he authored a text file, the floppy could have had unwiped data from previous files that may have revealed some identifying data, and the volume serial number could have potentially linked the disk to the box of disks at the church, if other file data had pointed to the church.

He ended up the way he was because of what humanity projected onto him. And he learned to find joy in the suffering of others, to compensate for his unhappiness. Either that or he was supremely spoiled as a child, mixed with various personality disorders stemming from an unusual childhood. Same applies to all serial killers/sadists sociopaths

@Brian He has himself said that he was not abused as a child. His upbringing was unremarkable. Despite his absurd belief that the detectives he was communicating with had his best interests at heart - he was not an unintelligent man. He had clearly studied the lives of other serial killers. He would have known that the only possible way he could elicit one iota of public sympathy would be to plead abuse as a child. However, he didn't do that. The notion of "the bad seed" is unfashionable these days, but I have come to suspect that some people are simply born evil. Denis Rader is probably one of those people.
@kedabro1957
@kedabro1957 2 жыл бұрын
@@reesemorgan2259 Scientists have discovered that high levels of serotonin during pregnancy produce psychopathic babies. A happy mother in a healthy environment is more likely to give birth to a born killer. Unsafe environments create killers out of normal babies. Evolutionarily this makes sense. A culture of violent people would be very good at spotting a young boy with all the tools to compete with them at their own game. They would eliminate such children as soon as they could. Or at least disenfranchise them from opportunities to advance. But a culture of peaceful people would be less suspicious, and less likely to condemn a child even if they did realize what he was. Perfect environment for a manipulative killer to thrive.
