This is a DIY video on how to repair the heater hose and replace the auxiliary heater inlet hose tee connector on my wife 2009 GMC Yukon SLT 2wd 5.3l Flex. The heater hose fitting was completely broken and leaking coolant. We also chose to replace the tee connector while performing the repair. It was an inexpensive part and could have been brittle lithe the hose connector.
Genuine GM Parts Used in Repair:
Auxiliary heater inlet hose tee connector GM# 15055342
Heater Hose GM#22885825

$600 - $850 quotes.. but just $75 in parts. yea dude!!! do NOT pay the shop to do this.. yes, it sucks to unclip the T, but stick with it, and focus on this "wiggle the T a lot- really get up on the motor with your body, to get good leverage, and feel for those clips, definitely do what he did in the video to cut the one part of the T, just use dykes, or vice grips (I used vice grips, locked on, turned, and snapped the plastic - easy)

I just replaced my heater core in my 2011 GMC 1500 Dinali. I work at a dealership and have been for 26yrs. It took me about 5 hours to do. To add to this video lining a thin coat of antifreeze to the rubber oring inside the new hose will allow you to slide the hose on without force. I’ve seen techs break a heater core doing what this guy did by applying to much force to install the new hose. FYI a heater core is not a DYI unless you have a A/C machine and a tech2 or laptop.
@MattFreytag
@MattFreytag 5 жыл бұрын
tlt40s&w 70 Thanks for the tip! Not sure if you actually watched the video or not but I can’t find the part where we applied to much force sliding the hose on. It basically just slide back into place by slightly pushing it on the same as any tech in a professional shop would do. Any car fix can be diy with the proper knowledge and tools. Let us know if you need any help on any other repairs. Thanks.

Why do you need a laptop or a tech2 to do a heater core??? I replace at least one a week for a major used car lot and never need those to replace them with!!!! And I never used any force with the quick disconnect heater core hose bc it just snaps in place...

Just had this fixed on my 2011 Tahoe. Wish I would've seen this first. Needed the car ASAP so the first mechanic that could do it, did it. Small coolant puddles in the garage and a bit of smoke/steam coming out from under the hood at stop lights.He Diagnosed problem via pressure test. Replaced the "T" connector and all hoses for $300. Decent deal I reckon, but DIY for probably $100

@Jarod Marquis Awe Man! That sucks. Wish you would have seen this video first but $300 is not bad since you needed it fixed quick. I replaced those on my 06 Yukon. It had 125K miles and figured I'd do preventive maintenance as I drive through Indio and Phoenix when it is over 110* I also replaced the heater hoses. I ended up having to get a hex saw blade and cutting off the plastic t part in order to slip it off the heater core. I could not slip it off the auxiliary hoses even after cutting off the tabs. Stupid design. My chest was sunken in and hurt for the next week after leaning over the dam fender for so long.

It's Sunday here and all the Chevy dealerships and garages are closed would I be able to replace the tee with a tee from drip hose or a piece of CPVC?
@MattFreytag
@MattFreytag 7 жыл бұрын
Joshua Amerson I probably would not recommend that for a permanent fix! If I am understanding correctly You would have to connect some kind of barbed tee to the fitting on the firewall, the fitting that goes to the rear heat, and to the water pump housing. That would be 3 separate hoses and 6 total hose clamps. For an emergency this could possibly work temporarily but would take longer for the repair and possibly harder to find the proper parts. Hope this helps you and thanks for watching my video!

We actually had this engine rebuilt at around 30k by the dealership under warranty. It was using quite a bit of oil. Even though GM May deny it I would say the main reason for this is there Active Fuel Management system.

Now that it is out of warranty we are going to get a custom tune for it that will disable the active fuel management. I hate it anyways. When you wanna press the gas and go it is so sluggish such as passing on the interstate. Hopefully the new tune will unleash some more power from the 5.3

Napa auto parts carrys a nice aftermarket hose, better than oem. Instead of a crimped end it's a simple squeeze clamp and female quic hose connect check it out www.napaonline.com/en/p/NDP82760481?partTypeName=Heater+Hose&keywordInput=heater+hose+with+quic+connect also the connector www.napaonline.com/en/p/NDP7305659?partTypeName=Heater+Hose+Connector&keywordInput=heater+core+connectora

The proper cheaper easier way is to take a 5/8 brass tee and 2 small lengths of hose and one long and 5 twist on clamps and bam fixed the right way permanently

This is not how I would recommend doing the fix. The male ends on the quick connect are not designed to be used with an aftermarket hose and hose clamps.
