Excellent review, Randy. My incredibly awesome wife just got me the black goatskin wm Canterbury for our wedding anniversary. I couldn't be more pleased with this beautifully crafted Bible. And, while It's the words of God that matter more than premium leather covers and art gilding, may this precious gift serve as a vehicle to better know, love and serve the God of the word.

One of the things I like to do is to color in the drop caps. I use the Zebrite highlighters (green for the leafy vines and a lighter pink for the letter). It looks great and is fun to do. It gives this Bible even more character--especially if you have this with the blue under silver gilt. I just wanted to leave this suggestion.

Maybe they’ll make this slate version in the ESV with the creeds. With the lined pages in the end in addition to the creeds. That and maybe keep the old 36 gsm for writing in. That’d be my “dream” Bible. Schuyler, if you’re listening...

The Cross on the Schuyler Bible is both the Flag and the Coat of Arms from The Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem (The first Christian nation in Jerusalem) founded by Medieval French, German, and English Crusaders. This cross represented the Christian World for 200 years ! The Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem endured for 200 years(1095-1291A.D.), until Jerusalem was re-conquered by the Arabs. The first Arab conquest of Jerusalem was 636-637 A.D. Pope Urban II was the first to use the word "Crusade" to rouse support for the Christian faith. Christopher Columbus , Spanish Voyager, wrote in his diary that he voyaged West to raise funds for a Crusade to liberate Jerusalem once again in the 1490s. The Leader of the first Crusade was Godfrey of Bouillon, from Medieval France. Search "Christianity during the Middle Ages" to learn more. God Bless.

I personally wish people would not print BIBLE text too small to read. I like at least 12 point font except Cambridge can get away with 10.5 with their dark bold print and layout. E.g. Turquoise and LARGE PRINT editions. Also like NASB 2020 in giant PRINT.

Out of curiosity is there a difference in which liner is the best out of calfskin, calf split, and cowhide, or other various synthetic liners in your opinion? I’ve also heard that some synthetic liners are as good as leather but I’m not sure about that.

The small print concordance has been my only complaint on the Schuylers. So that would probably be the reason I wouldn’t buy this one. If I am going to spend that much on a Bible I want to be able to read all the contents. Aside from that it looks like a beautiful Bible.

I have found that as I age I prefer a margin of some size around the text. This frames the text and allows my eyes to focus better. So I use a WM just to read and study. If I didn't own so many Canterbury bibles I'd get this one for that reason alone, as it would surely be my reader.

I have always been a blue/silver combo type of guy. Because of this I dragged my feet in regards to Schuylers Wide Margin and opted for an Allan (which I regret). After getting the Black Pearl Canterbury (which I find gorgeous) I began seeing videos of the Slate Canterbury (normal and WM) and I began thinking "Hey, this color scheme goes best with the ornate drop caps and other features of the Canterbury." Of course now I can't order it in Slate :( Woe is me. Also something of note the normal Canterbury has 28 gsm paper that feels like rice paper, it's very thin feeling (to me). I didn't know the WM had 38. I also have a Concord WM which I love because the font and readability is second to none (my opinion of course) but Schuyler seems to have some extras I might enjoy more like red lettering and better overall aesthetics. If I can't get this in Slate anytime soon, I will just go with the Firebrick Red as it's very gorgeous. I did message Schuyler earlier today and I asked them to please bring back Slate if they didn't intend to. Anyhow the main reason I am posting is I was checking out your written review earlier because I wanted to compare pictures of the Slate with other versions and I noticed you said this about the glossary: "I plan to write them on the pages with the words, or at the very least mark the words so I know to check the glossary." Did you ever do this? If so how did you go about it? Just curious because I like seeing other people's methods for marking their bibles to give me fresh ideas. I like to be tidy and neat and I am always looking for better ways to improve :) Blessings!

Unfortunately, I haven't marked them yet. I'm still thinking through the process. I'm planning to (eventually) update my book on using a wide margin Bible and I want to include this information, so I need to try a few options first. So far, I'm leaning toward placing a dot at the start of the work using a highlighter. The dot would just alert me that there's a definition in the back.

@@BibleBuyingGuide Nice! I love the minimalistic approach because it's less marking. The flipside is you could always trade that Slate if someone is looking for a trade in the event Schuyler doesn't bring it back. I sure hope they respond to me tomorrow so I know how to proceed. It's either Slate or Firebrick Red for me at this point. Cambridge Concord WM is nice as I love the font but this Canterbury I think scratches the aesthetic itch im missing with my Concord wm.

That's a tough one. Both are excelent Bibles and have their advantages. The Concord has a cleaner text since it doesn't have reference and footnote keys in the text, but this can also be more difficult to use. It also has a concordance. The Brevier Clarendon has chapter summaries. I personally use the Concord more, but that's because I like the cleaner text and concordance and I love the regular size Concord. It's larger than the regular size Brevier Clarendon.

What is the best wide/wider margin KJV bible? Allen 62, Allen Brevier Clarendon Wide Margin, Cambridge Concord Wide Margin, Cambridge Concord Wide Margin Reference, or Schuyler Wide Margin Canterbury? Taking into consideration reference location, number of references, text and reference font size, and concordance size and font size.
@BibleBuyingGuide
@BibleBuyingGuide 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica. Each one has advantages, so it would be difficult to say that one is the overall best. I haven't seen the Allan 62, but here are my thoughts on the others: Allan Brevier Clarendon - no concordance, 8-point font, black letter, reference keys in the text, excellent paper, lots of note pages, nice maps, matches the hand-size Brevier Clarendon, around 44k references and includes footnotes. References are fairly easy to find. Cambridge Concord Wide Margin - excellent paper, 8-point font, text has no reference keys so it's a little cleaner, excellent concordance, black letter, most pages for notes, nice maps, matches the regular and personal size Concord, around 44k references and includes footnotes. References are easy to find. This is wider than the Allan, but still feels balanced. Schuyler Wide Margin Canterbury - excellent paper, 9.5 font, red letter, section headings, no footnotes, references are out of the way, line-matching, best Psalms layout, excellent concordance but text is small, nice maps, not as many pages for notes, 55k references. This is the largest of the three.

The bible wide margins are a respect to the text They need to be white as a shirt collar ! You're focusing too much on writing by side the text...(!) But you should be respectful for the text (that's why you have paper to write at the back, To take notes!... At the back of the book! This book is a piece of art, it's so pity that you don't know to RESPECT IT! Read from It
