that is why I took a decision that if I ever lend money to friend and family is an amount that I'm ok to not be paid back, in my tracking it goes as a gift or donation (although I don't tell them). This way I keep a limit on what I lend and also don't count on it,

Something that has really helped my husband and I get control of our spending is to work out how many hours of work we have to do to buy an item. That often puts us off frivolous spending. Food was the biggest struggle in our budget too. Home cooking makes an incredible difference. Everyone can start with the basics and then you gradually learn to build skills. Bulk cooking and prepping too so that you have some "ready" meals when you are really too tired. My husband and I do a huge shop once a month now and prep ingredients together whilst listening to music and having a good check in with each other. We find that once a week we'll need to top up on fruit and veg, but staying out of the shops as much as possible keeps the money in your bank!

There is something called the $1 plan. You look at things in terms of $1 verses uses. So you look at a pair of shoes, if they are $30 you ask yourself if you will wear them at least 30 times. If not, do not buy. You look at things in that light you buy less.

Jamie Tyler First, there’s been a nurse shortage for decades and nurses get paid very well. Second, I believe their in Canada so that’s $80K Canadian which is probably about $68K US. I’m not sure what the exchange rate was when this was produced but even 15 years ago, $80K CND doesn’t sound ridiculous to me.

It would be a waste of your time and effort. When she walked off the show, "Princess" in 2012, she said that was it, no more tv (the network and the production team tried to force her to do something unethical and she refused), and she's stuck to her resolve. She said in an interview sometime after the show ended that there are just too many fingers in the pie, and far too much greed for her to want to go back (my words, but the gist of what she said).

Mt husband and I are only in debt for two reasons. We got scammed right after we got married, and we were recently in a car accident that left him without work for almost 3 months. Our debt is tiny compared to this couple, and we only got this far without begging because of my penny-pinching skills I learned from my Baby Boomer Grandma. We only go out to eat once or twice a month, I save every coin I find, I squirrel away 10% of my paycheck every month, I sew our clothes when they get a tear, I watched car and home repair videos, I buy generic brands, and and I cook every day. There is NO excuse for not cooking. There are recipe books, cooking videos, and even throwing a tray of chicken nuggets in the oven is cheaper than going out to eat.

These shows make me feel anxious. The debt isn't even mine, and I get kind of sweaty during the section where they outline exactly how much they owe. I would DIE of anxiety if I owed that much on anything (outside the mortgage). We currently have zero debt except our home, which will be paid off in about 3 years. And our kids are graduating college with no student debt. You have to live below your means and start EARLY with savings. Say no to something now so you can say yes to something better later. I can't get my head wrapped around living any other way.
