@@tj778 There's no such thing as demigods in the god of war universe. There are just gods. There hasn't been a single reference in any of the games to demigod. So, Kratos is a god. He "loses" his god status in God of War 2 by draining it into the blade of olympus, however, he gets the blade of olympus back, thus restoring his powers. On top of this, every god he kills in god of war 3 makes him stronger.

Also I forget whether it was before or after this but in the same story he lost an arm wrestling match against an elderly giantess who used to be the nanny of the giant king. On Kratos' fluctuating strength, I've always liked the headcannon that due to him being the God of War, he will always be strong enough to complete whatever task he sets his mind to, but he still has to work for it, because what's more interesting, a war that's easily won, or a war that is a struggle to win?

I like to think his power comes from his rage. That’s why in the original series he’s so strong and in 2018 GOW he’s remarried with a child and happy and isn’t holding onto much if any rage anymore. I support the idea that there is no actual limit to kratos' strength, the reason being that in actual greek mythology kratos(also spelled cratos) is the divine personification of strength, and is the brother to nike(goddess of victory)

Kratos was tricked by Ares to kill his family in an illusion so that he would be unshackled by his humanity making him a more powerful warrior. Then kills Ares. After which, the God's corrupted by the spirits in Pandora's Box turned on Kratos. Zeus uses the Blade of Olympia to sap away Kratos' power and attempts to kill him. Athena comes back as an ascended being and attempts to use Kratos to her own end. He then attempts to kill himself after Zeus' end and the world's end. Only to survive that too.

Yeah like someone mentioned you can play all the games on PS now I did a marathon and played the whole series in chronolical order, you start with ascension, chains of olympus, GOW1, ghost of sparta,GOW2,GOW. However if you never played the original GOW or seen the story, I recomend playing that one first then doing ascension, CoO and then rest, the worst game by far is ascension so its all up from there and the PSP games can be completed in 2 sessions each

Kratos fought with both atlas and kronos, atlas in the either the first or second game, and kronos in the third. He kills kronos by using the blades of sparta to cut open kronos stomach and have his guts fall out.

Theory: Kratos is a god of war, therefor, he gets more strength when he is involved in a war. Kratos struggles to fight wolves and smaller video game enemies because those creatures are either too stupid or aren’t explicitly at war with him. Hence why he was at the peak of his power in the third game, ie the war between gods and titans, and why his rage is so strong for his power set. When Kratos enters a spartan rage, he becomes a literal one man army.

Interestingly enough Kratos does exist within Greek Mythology as one of the children of the River Styx, and is the personification of Strength itself which does definitely translate to the games and is most likely the direct inspiration.
