Wild camp on the hills west of Sheffield at Owler Bar in very wet and windy conditions. Opportunity to try out my Crux Storm tent in preparation for winter months ahead.

Patrick, I've been trying to work out why I find your videos so enjoyable. I think I know now - your aim is always to engage the interest of your viewers. By the way you talk to us, it is clear how much you value your viewers - you treat us like friends. You have no 'airs 'n graces', you're a genuine fella with a zest for adventure. Your videos are very well presented and your manner is just right. Keep up the good work Patrick, you are an inspiration!

It's kinda cosy in a tent when it's blowing like that. Nice view too. One tip: It's good for the poles to start folding them in the middle. When you start from one end, the shock cord gets quite tight towards the end.

Hallo Pat.Super video.You show Shefield so well.My Daughter went to Shefield University for 3 years and I used to fly over your campsite at about 44000feet quite often.My flight comeing from Canada starting at Fort Worth Texas.we would just miss Nottingham and head past Marham RAF base in Norfolk much lower probably 30ish Thousand feet where I had lived for 3 years then we would climb above 36000ft over the North Sea heading for Holland and finally Germany.At times the midnightish views over Shefield and Marham were very clear the lighting showing lots of details.Well you remind me of England and my travels from around the world and my Daughter who lives in South Korea. Thanks for taking us along Patrick - enjoyable as ever. The tent looked rock-solid - been looking for a good winter tent with room for kt and will look out for the Crux or Soulo bargain on eBay. Some great shots over Sheffield and shame about the focus over breakfast. All the technology bits, we're bound to have glitches. You do a good job for sound recording in the wind! Look forward to the next adventure and may dehydrated turkey roast if you get time for a December camp. ATB Stephen

I liked this one. Good tent. I could have used such a tent back in April in the Big Bend. The gusts were up to 45 mph. I hope you can appreciate how this provides us viewers a new insight into your climate, life in Sheffield, your life and its norms. Cozying up in the shelter of those piled rocks reminds me that cozy is relative. The contrast between our worlds is food for the soul. For instance, here in the greater Houston area, rocks are not naturally occurring. One must travel at least 35 miles northwest, to find one on the ground. We do transport them here, though, but they can be expensive to ship. Six hundred miles from here, in west Texas, there is a lot of rock and the climate is very hot and dry. At night the very dry air cools rapidly when the sun sets, so, in a matter of minutes, we go from wearing layers to protect from the sun, to even more layers to stay warm at night. Your video and stills were great. It was so good to see heather again. Thanks Pat.
@patrickdickinson64924 жыл бұрын
Nice to hear from you and I, am amazed when you say no rocks, we have so many round here especially up on the high ground, as if all the land has eroded away leaving just rocks. On the Derbyshire hills round here we bace alot of stone circles, pagon places of worship many thousands of years old built out of local rocks. Tent performed really well and felt very strong and secure, all the best Pat

Great video Patrick, the tent looked very sturdy . Some great photos, there is so much to remember with cameras when doing stills and video I've done exactly the same (left it on manual focus lol) looking forward to your next adventure . Thanks!

Chris Millington Hi Chris yes the more you use your camera with varied setting more chance of mistakes, been exploring underground before this video and beginning of video is a bit rubbish I had actually left ISO on 3600 and white balance on aLED setting hope nobody noticed, all the best Pat

What a great place so close to home. Conditions looked challenging, though obviously ideal for putting the Crux storm tent to the test ... and yourself :)

Trevor Bailey hi Trevor this was a really strong tent great for winter and bad weather, but with that hours weight. Sometimes you have to find a balance between weight and strength and where and when you will camp. Thanks Pat

I love your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures. I love to see how you dehydrate things like your spaggetti boulinase, so if I spelled that wrong. Thanks again. Take care.

Marsha Mapes Hi Marsha, thanks for your comments, the dehydrated food is a great way to provide lightweight meals when camping, thanks Pat

Fantastic vid showing a fantastic bit of kit. A lot of staff from snow and rock I’ve spoke to use these and swear by them. I live geodesic tents. Hope it serves you well Patrick and hope you are well ATB Steve

Gareth Danks Hi Gareth strongest tent I,ve had a bit heavy but worth it for the feeling of security and the room, pure luxury. I got mine second hand, not sure if Crux are making them? You have a great tent, all the best Pat
@GarethDanks6 жыл бұрын
Patrick Dickinson yeah mate. Bought mine used too. Arrives tomorrow. My terra nova voyager died in snowdonia last weekend. Crux looks bomb proof. 1k heavier as you say but the security is priority after that snapping. Check out my last vlog if you like mate. Keep up the great work buddy. Love your adventures. Be safe! 😊👍🏻

Like I said would probably use my Hilleberg Soulo for a camp like that but wanted to try the tent, in winter when you have extra warm gear, and wet or snow covered gear you need that sort of room unless you like sleeping with a wet coat etc touching your sleeping bag. It is only 2 ib heavier that my Soulo, you want to see what my camera gear weighs, 8lb with trypod mics etc. At the end of the day its just for fun I,am not a serious camper, just a pleasant way to have Fun, thanks Pat
