Michigan is truly a special place to Rockhound. The beauty of the Great Lakes is unmatched. In this video my buddy Rob and I went on the hunt for agate on Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It turned out to be a bigger adventure than we ever imagined!

I'm 2.30 minutes in and the view just reminded me of the one time i went to Michigan at 4 or 5 years old. I got in trouble because I threw a fit saying it was the ocean and got mad that everyone kept telling me it was a lake LOL. Hissy fit toddler rage and I remember it! I want to go back someday!

Lake Superior, as well as all the other Great Lakes, are actually such large bodies of water that they do qualify as inland seas. And even though they are comprised of fresh water, their salinity is higher than that of other fresh water lakes. So I think your 4 or 5 year old self was actually quite justified in your hissy fit…lol.

Fun fact of that banded iron you're finding. The red color is the result of the first oxygen introduced to the atmosphere in the history of planet Earth and oxidizing the iron in the rock. That rock you pulled out of the water is the first time algae on earth released oxygen in the atmosphere. That's over 2 billion years old! Before that the Earth had NO oxygen in the atmosphere and life has just begun. How amazing is that?!

Moonstone... petrified wood. There's a red orange yellow chalcedony crystal called sunset stone. Wish I could send pictures. Found red druzy geode also. So fun to see what the sea washes up. But I can't find any shark teeth. I'm still looking. Takes is easy gents. Keep up the good work 🤙

Is super very hard to pick just one because every Rock You Found I absolutely love I am new to rock hunting but I have always loved rocks from the time I was in Middle School and agates are my favorite I have some really big Petoskey stones but I have giant pudding stones one of them that I have is so big that it's in the middle of my front yard and it's too heavy to move so I built a flower bed around it and it is just beautiful when I water my flowers in the spring and summer in the water hits that big pudding Stone it just looks beautiful❤😊

Hi Kyle!! Rock #1 was my favorite out of the 5. Lake Superior is freezing cold all the time, which makes sense since it is the coldest of the Great Lakes. My Dad took us there on a day trip when we were camping in the U P many years ago. I bet the Agate as big as your head is way out in the middle of the lake, it's also the deepest of the Great Lakes, go figure huh 🤣 I always loved rockhounding. Fantastic video!! As always, I look forward to the next one!
