Fantastic start, Uluru n Kata Tjuta are very special and really hard to describe the feeling they give. 100% over commercialised. We drove from the other side a few years ago, just after flooding, the road there was spectacular, 2 weeks later it was a rutted, corrugated nightmare. Looking forward to next week.

G'day. Good stuff. I was interested to see dual cabs with the 270 awning. It was a bit hard to tell how they were mounted but it appeared that they may have straddled the cab and canopy. I was told by the manufacturer that I couldn't do that as there is flex between cab and canopy and that any damage to the awning if fitted that way would not be covered under warranty. I am therefore interested to hear if they were in fact mounted that way and if so, have there been any issues. I look forward to hearing.

A great video. I'm looking forward to this series. The GCR is awesome with stunning scenery. I've travelled that road about 8 times now. The first time was in 1999. In a way, it's a shame it's being bitumised. Being a dirt road is part of the adventure.

Just a quick tip while using a Travel Buddy. Consider buying and using Silicon containers that can also fit a lid to use as Roast or Curry/Stew containers when cooking. That way spills are reduced and if the correct sizes are purchased there is no wasted space inside the oven. Also all the veg and meat can be added to a roast bag that is sealed to stop leaks.
@merv1905 ай бұрын
Why not just use foil trays ?
@WildTouring5 ай бұрын
Cheers mate, will have to have a look for them. Havnt seen them with lids! That would be handy 👍🏼

Foil trays always slop the contents out eventually plus they tend to be single use. Silicone seal elk and are used for years.

Hi Cam, great start to the series. Really enjoying it. The reason for more fuel usage (20%) would be that the tyres have lower pressures and on gravel (less traction). Just a thought. The 300 is going well by the look of it. Cheers Graeme
@WildTouring5 ай бұрын
I reckon you’re spot on Graeme. I thought that at a lower speed, with less wind resistance we would get slightly better economy. But it was no big deal, we were prepared with a large margin for error! The $3.60/L at Warburton roadhouse was painful though 😣

$40 a night unpowered and mice everywhere to eat thru your swag & tucker. Pretty ordinary ha! We fortunately RTT it, up aways from the little buggers. Curious about your electric blanket power consumption. Whilst we run a 12v unit in RTT, along with a diesel heater it's hardly ever used however we use a inverter to run ours in the van, consumption with both sides on is 3.1 amp with both sides on 3 (high) to initially warm the bed including dedicated 600w inverter (solely for blanket use). If we left both sides on 1 (low) we're drawing 1 amp only. Whilst we have no reason to leave ours on, I must do it just to see the results next morning. Curious now as I've always informed people they draw nothing. Mind you, almost negligent now as van is heated too.
@WildTouring5 ай бұрын
Diesel heater is the way to go, any heating element on 12v will draw significant current! I’m using a regular 240v electric blanket through the inverter. Draws 7a or so. Definitely not an efficient means to stay warm haha. But I’ve got a huge battery bank and was driving everyday so it was fine for this trip 👍🏼
