I’ve got a 06 Sierra with the Vortec and want to do some cam work if I can afford it. I’ve got headers, running a straight pipe, chipped and intake. Sounds great but could still use some power upgrades. Nice vid!

@paulnykyforchyn8404 Жыл бұрын
Haven't done my cam yet but I'm pretty sure most people aren't having tuning issues with the cam itself but the lack of o2 sensors which is how the system tunes for correct fuel tables. The computer needs to be tuned to not look for the emissions equipment that you are no longer using.
@MitchCarveth Жыл бұрын
Mostly correct, Removing the rear 02 sensors won’t effect a whole lot other than triggering the engine light cause the computer doesn’t see them anymore. Bank 1 and bank 2 are the o2 sensors that really matter for the fuel tables. Depending on size of cam lift duration and LSA it can really effect drive ability due to extra valve lift and change in timing.
@paulnykyforchyn8404 Жыл бұрын
@MitchCarveth When the ecu triggers an engine light it also triggers parameters that allow it to run without the sensors it's not seeing this is why when people clear the codes the stalling typically comes back. The real problem is not having enough torque converter stall for the cam profile, you can have a programmer give you higher idle too try and make up for this but without enough stall you will burn up the trans at idle. Even a non efi vehicle will stall out with too much cam for the converter. The ecu is only designed to keep the air fuel ratio within a certain parameter and is not aware of any mechanical parts in the equation. The program that is installed at the factory is used on many different cam profiles and vehicles from factory and learns how to keep the correct afr as you run it. Basically what I'm saying is if you know what emissions you are deleting, prepare for that. If you can't get to a programmer, pre purchase an ecu that has been deleted. There are many suppliers of these for under $200. And if your cam profile requires a converter or different gear ratios then be prepared for that too. There's no way around it. Bottom line is be realistic on what you intend to use the vehicle for and you will be alot happier with your cam swap.

@viciousrap7004 жыл бұрын
Brandon Nunez stage 3 needs a converter to get the engine into the torque curve. Many tests have shown the stage 1 & 2 BTR truck cams to hold their torque without a loss on the bottom end yet they begin to pull away strong through the mid range to above 6000. My pick without a converter would be stage 2 but for me personally I would still put a converter in even with the stage 2. Converters are worth a lot in a 4L60/65E.
@viciousrap7004 жыл бұрын
dornell45 there's roughly about a 10ft-lb loss in torque from a BTR S2TC to a S3TC so no there won't be a change the world difference. There could easily be that much difference in two identical trucks straight from the factory. State of tune can also be a factor but with the S3TC a 3000-3200 stall should go in, I would even stall that much with a S2TC but that's me, I like a good torque converter. If you were doing a full build and not just a cam swap you could mill the heads for a compression bump and get back the lower end power loss which is exactly what I'd do but I'd still put a converter in it.

Scott Hibbard good cats won't kill power brotha, the difference between a catless setup and a catted setup is virtually non existent when you have good cats. The main difference you'll find is that to a small degree cats will muffle some sound which isn't always a bad thing as catless exhaust can be a bit raspy. Sound will come down to pipe diameter, duals or single and type of muffler used more than anything. My Escalade has a Dynomax Ultra-Flow X muffler, dual 3" in and out and it's got a very distinctive sound compared to the Trucks with a single pipe going back. It sounds like nothing else in my area which I love and I get compliments on it all the time. It's going to sound amazing with a cam, more compression and long tubes!
