@Tom so excited to see you work with the Silverado EV RST. I am an owner of an RST. I would love you to test charging while the truck is turned on. I have found that at 50% SOC my charging goes from 200kW down to 30 or 40kW, even if I shut off climate control. This makes it really hard to sit in the car in 100°+ temps when you have to turn off the vehicle, and the AC, to charge at a decent speed.

At the end of today's podcast you said you hoped we weren't too bored. Far from it! I believe the combination of Tom and Martyn is engaging in a productive and informative way without the rambling of Dom. I like Kyle's honest and unfiltered comments and nerdy matter of fact opinion. I don't mind the ads since my podcast player has a skip ahead button. Id actually consider paying for a subscription if it was just Tom and Martyn! Some guest appearances by out of spec Dave and Miss Go Electric would be nice.

Most RVs sit next to homes, never driven except a week after they got them. Them batteries better be able to hook up to the house as storage.

National security needs to be addressed for sure, and addressed in a targeted fashion. Blanket restrictions will not work, but create their own independent set of incentives to work around. And subsidies could lead to a higher value transfer in favor of US & global consumers, which is higher economic growth. Conversely, blanket restrictions in climates technologies will hurt the broader picture, on emissions. US could go higher in the value chain. Autonomous Driving etc. laws of economics always rule.

With the PHEV Motorhome, one thing to think about is that DCFC on the road can cost the same if not more than gas when the price of gas is lower. When gas is around $3, and DCFC is 54¢/kWh, gas is likely cheaper. I know with the F150 Lightning, comparing it to an ICE F150, at $3/gallon vs 54¢/kWh, gas is cheaper, and much quicker. I’m typically anti PHEV, especially today’s with a tiny EV range, but I think this could be a good use for a PHEV. I wish the RAMCharger was a 2500 that could tow a large 5th camper. I’d give up the frunk for dual fuel options.

On the Chinese built vehicle front. People don't really care about the car being built in China if it's a competitive price with the features they want. I work at a Lincoln dealership and the Nautilus is our hottest car. It is also the best made vehicle in the Lincoln lineup. Most Lincoln buyers are older conservative buyers, but most of them don't seem to care. We also sell a lot to UAW workers, they like the car and they can still park in the close lot at the plant with it.

It’s worth remembering that in addition to components level security, many things can be packaged from so many places in a connected world, that it needs even deeper thought!

Why do we think China is the only country giving automotive companies incentives? The federal and provincial governments in Canada have agreed to give 15B$ over 10 years for making EV batteries, tech and cars.

12:20. 2025 Equinox EV AWD range rating bumped up to 307 miles from 285 miles 👍. 2025 Blazer EV AWD also got a range bump. Not sure if any differences, but it seems GM is now fine-tuning their numbers where they can. Maybe 19” vs 21” wheel range will get sorted eventually too?

Meanwhile the gas powered Equinox is only 175 HP and there is no option to upgrade to a larger engine like in years past. Can you imagine trying to get on the freeway with 4 people and some cargo in that thing? That would be scary.

The Volvo ex30 is made in China and supposed to be hit with the tariffs, will that effect the rumored $37k price tag when it comes to the u.s. in 2025?
@BatteriesIncludedPodcast
@BatteriesIncludedPodcast Ай бұрын
100% Tariffs killed that plan so production moved to Ghent, Belgium. It was also delayed because of software gremlins so early 2025 seems likely for U.S. launch. The big boy EX90 and the Polestar 3 will be made there though in the South Carolina Volvo plant

The Obamas produced the Netflix disaster movie "Leave the World Behind,” based on a novel. Elon did not like how this work of fiction showed how remotely controlled cars could be weaponized. As FSD improves (not just with Tesla), how much of a real risk is it? I don't know... Corporate and state espionnage is a more understandable concern.

If Chinese EVs or ICE vehicles can meet European safety and crash standards then they’ll meet the US regs with only different brake/ blinker lights. The Chinese design cars for export to meet the strictest rules. Their cars that cannot are for their domestic market and some of those you wouldn’t want to risk your life being a passenger in. I spent several years working in various parts of China and always had an imported European market car at the insistence of my employer.

I think a chinese chip ban hurts Tesla the least of American OEMs. 1) most of tesla’s sales are outside the us. 2) a lot of Tesla’s revenue is not auto 3) Tesla is super agile at changing out tech as they did during covid. -In contrast Jim Farley said in an interview that Ford has little control of their 1000s of suppliers- they are not flexible or agile.

A lot of Americans believe Chinese cars are junk but if that were true we would have nothing to worry about. The problem is the cars are good. I understand protecting our industry but we might be giving them a false sense of security to the point they fail to compete with the rest of the world. Would US branded cars be any good if we had never allowed Toyota and Honda to enter the US market? I don't think so.

I would have thought Tesla would be the best company to work around this they have factories in China they are factors in Germany unless Europe does not take Chinese cars and obviously their factories in the US so if you stops Chinese cars coming in and then it will be a case of Tesla cars can only be sold if they're manufactured in China in China it's all according to what the Chinese do with their imports
