The one thing I was surprised at was how little Crowdstrike lost of their share price. It was only about 15% of their value for a catastrophic global issue.

Yeah.. and the employees working on the ground apparently just got a $20 gift card lol.. not sure if that was the best thing to do

Companies, big and small ones, are paying high values due to ransomware, but consider it a too expensive thing to hire new people to reinforce their security. Unbelievable! Great video, Sandra!

I tried applying for an internship at Crowdstrike a few months ago but I got denied. My only experience is being a security specialist at an Amazon Robotics but maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. I feel like I would had been the cause of the incident lmao

Great video. I think this is going to happen and correct me if im wrong. With ghost jobs becoming the new norm, i think companies are going to post more ghost IT jobs to make it appear to investors that they are being proactive but really not doing any hiring. I also think that companies are going to be looking MORE so for that unicorn of an employee that doesn't exist. That's my guess.

Even big corporations don't have dedicated cyber security incident response teams... they only see it as an issue afyer the fact... reactive vs proactive...

THIS!! 👆 We always hear about being "proactive vs reactive" but it's more often said than actaully done.

I work in the federal government in Oklahoma. Tinker Air Force Base and they’ve been hiring a lot of IT Jobs. Most of it are direct hire with no interviews.starting pay is $86k to 130k a year.

I couldn't even clock into work or use our ticketing system until we were given the commands :/
@genjioto4 ай бұрын
I think keeping things fragmented instead of having one large cybersecurity entity manage so many firms infra would be ideal. I do not even work at a cybe security company, but the MSP I work for is noticing a huge uptick in cybersecurity related “tickets.” Tier 2 techs are already using cybersecurity playbooks.

The issue is that most companies see IT in general as a cost center (even worse for Cyber security) and people have short memory as it relates to incidents like this, remember the Experian hack a couple of years ago or the most recent United Healthcare breach, it's business as usual for them and in the case of CRWD I believe there maybe some short term gains for hiring but by this time next year most would have moved on from this.
@GeorgiaMade4044 ай бұрын
I’m convinced most companies don’t care about cybersecurity, they see it as an unnecessary expense. It’s cheaper for them to just deal with the consequences whenever a breach happens.

Although I do agree with you that there will be a surge of available jobs, whether it's from the CrowdStrike fiasco, or the disillusionment with "AI", I don't think any amount of QA, or Cyber Security teammates would have stopped this, unless they all had eyes on the deployment process, and saw that there was a bug, nothing would have changed. This was a master class on how not to deploy. They deployed close to the weekend, did not deploy to Canary systems to check if they'd be okay, did not seem to follow any testing, or CI/CD, but even if they did, at the point that they decided to make their software necessary to boot, they destined the system to be in infinite boot loops.

Great insights!! My last company had a pretty new Secure SDLC process and these are the things that needed more work. Not every company is gonna get this right bc there is a huge disconnect between cybersecurity and the SDLC. It sounds like they needed more controls in place bc their process should REQUIRE testing in a non-prod environment, otherwise.. I wonder how many other companies have similar gaps to this
@juanmacias59224 ай бұрын
@@WithSandra exactly, the SDLC and Cyber Security are not seen as related, I assume because one deals with outgoing data, and one with incoming. But there should be some overlap. And I'd say many companies have these similar gaps, enough to make anyone nervous. The worst part is that CrowdStrike knew their process was faulty, they had already taken down a few Debian servers months prior to their latest fiasco.
@Jupiterxice4 ай бұрын
The thing is companies knew for the longest their bad practices and way after Cybersecurity tried to warn them. So I think now they will have to start finding and hiring.
@LeonEdwinsHeart4 ай бұрын
I think companies are still laying off workers, so I'd be surprised if they are expanding their IT workforce because of Crowdstrike. Would be very nice if it turned out to be true.

Once all the lawsuits start rolling in for CrowdStrike, I'll be surprised if they're still around in 2026. Especially with so many companies competing to be at the top of AI and security. I do hope they don't come crashing down because there are a lot of people involved who need a paycheck.

@@mishy_mix Verbal litter {"basically," "like," "literally") is the enemy of clear and concise communication. Words have meanings: they shouldn't be used as mere filler (and once every six seconds makes a presentation nearly incoherent).
