Glad you were happy with the crank shaft. That had some of the nicest splines, I've seen on a diesel crank

$4,000!? Don't say that. I've got a 730 diesel waiting for a complete overhaul. One thought I had for setting the crank in place without marking up the journals. 3M vet wrap would protect them without leaving any adhesive behind. The other thing I like to do is use aviation gasket maker on the gaskets. I put a very thin film on and I think it seals any deformities in the metal plus holds the gasket in place because it gets tacky after a few minutes. Just my $2.00 because two cents won't buy bubble gum anymore. Great video. Can't wait to see the rest of the series.

That tractor is worth spending the money on. The rest of it is in good condition so yes. Beside your Dad has to spend his money on something for fun. His hobby just happens to be a somewhat expensive one. Just look at it as another farm repair...

When working on something like that it isn’t a question of will it run again, only when.😀 I had an old friend who would say, we don’t ask it we tell it.

Did you ever find out what caused the old crankshaft to snap in two. What if the new crank does the same thing.

Come to find out it wasn't to un common for these cranks to bust even back in the day when the tractors were new....I've heard several reasons as to why they break number one reason the most popular reasons is lugging the engine for long periods of time which we never have but that's not to say some one didn't do it years ago and started the problem....this is a little bit newer crank as far actual build date so it probably won't be a issue ever again

Why didn’t you guys put a coat of oil on the bearings while installing them and torquing them down. They’ll be spinning dry till the pump gets oil to them. Maybe you did oil them but I didn’t see it being done.

Everything got white grease...we also will leave the fuel in the stop position and turn the big engine over with the pony engine to produce engine oil pressure before we allow the big engine to start and also before I put the top plates on the crank case I dumped oil down on top the crank trust me it's good and oiled up in there before it even fires lol

I was always told not to touch rod bearings with your bare hands, always use rubber gloves. Just what I was always told maybe it was bull.

I've never been told that on engine bearings I was always told not to touch the sealing surfaces on ring seals for excavator and dozer final drives

If you are so concerned about not damaging the crank, turn your knife over, cut up, away from the crank.
