They actually thought that retail stores would be willing to stock 133 different SKU’s of these dolls on their shelves. They would need the equivalent of an entire Walmart toy aisle dedicated to these dolls alone in order to keep that much product in stock.

So did this turn around? This was back when build a bear was big so they had a good concept. If they went to online retailers with a custom website I don't see why it would not work out. This concept was better than the depressing dolls with a story attached for sure.

The customisation should be so much better, then I think even if they sold exclusively online they would make alot of money. The problem is the Doll looks just like a standard off the shelf doll with a certain hairstyle or eye colour etc, they need to really try to personalise the doll more, maybe with some gadgets or designs on the clothing that shows off the personality.

Actually all the stock they had DID fly out the door, because they got a £100,000 order from Hamley's before this even went to air. Preliminary order of 100 dolls led to a further orders for another 1000 dolls.

Which wouldn’t help either way. They ran a failing business in a competitive market with terrible business decisions. You are essentially gambling away money with a possibility of no returns. That’s like giving a homeless person 10 grand in hopes he would better his life, when the odds are he would spend it in a way that doesn’t improve it. It’s not about being cold, it’s about being smart and realistic. If you are willing to gamble on a bunch of red flags, then more power to you.
