Dragons' Den

2 жыл бұрын

Stephen Myburgh is next to enter The Den. He's seeking a £70,000 investment in exchange for 20% of his business, Myburgh Designs. He's pitching some gorgeous bespoke chairs designed in a unique and artistic way with a Moroccan theme. Will he be cushioned by one of the Dragons or will there be empty seats at the table of investment?
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Let me takeyou back to my childhood. Picture the scene.... Its 1980's Scotland. I walk into the pub - a man is beating another man about the face with a chair for spilling his pint. It was at this moment I had the realization that inspired me to make post-it-notes. makes sense.

I feel like one is better off _not_ putting covers on the products. I know everyone likes the idea of a “big reveal” when they’re in the den, but if the Dragons can study the product prior to the entrepreneur’s entrance, I feel like they are more likely to fall in love with the product. Once the entrepreneur is in there, the Dragons are forced to pay most of their attention on them.

Yeah, even with a degree in arts, i am struggling with the simile story and the actual cost of the furniture. I see where he was trying to go, but it doesn't jive with me. Yeah, sorry a musical box doesn't help. When a millionaire that can afford it says he won't spend money on a single chair just proves he is a tad out of touch with reality.
@Dean_dialectic
@Dean_dialectic 2 жыл бұрын
Cool story, bro. Imagine the depraved mind that would lean on an anecdote of police brutality in a neo-colonial context no less to try and flog his overpriced furniture. Imagine boasting about "authenticity" while selling a product that isn't even produced, much less reinvests, in the culture you're exploiting. This pitch is lightly comical on the surface, but is actually pretty exploitative when you dig beneath this smiling assassin's veneer.

This dude is looking for a philanthropist to "adopt" him, aka continuously commission him and make all his friends buy art pieces. Worked great for artists in the past who'd just paint one royal/aristocrat family member after the other while doing personal work in between, but ye, it's not a business for investors who'd like to earn money. Mr Myburgh's still making cool stuff though and has his own website (just scroll past the links about the pro cricket player with the same name when you google him lol).

The story about the dog mauling the boy with the box and the product was really about a realization that he had, that the components parts were juxtaposed rather than harmonious. He then sought to create harmony amongst; the product, the boy, a dog on a pillow in a swing, and the entire scene framed, like an aesthetic box would be. I understand artists sometimes but unfortunately most artists believe they'll never be understood.
